Catalonia del Mar - Adults Only

Let's start with the positives - the hotel is located in Cala Bona next to the marina and an array of lovely restaurants and shops so lots of choice for where to eat and spend an evening. There's a good-sized pool with sun loungers, umbrellas and seating. The reception staff were efficient and mostly courteous and the chefs / waiting staff were helpful and attentive. Now to the real stuff - The hotel is facing the marina so should have impressive sea views but alas some huge, very overgrown trees block most of the view for many rooms on the first and second floors. We understand that the trees have nothing to do with the hotel, but don't sell a room as a sea view on the lower floors when you know these trees block it. We paid extra (quite a bit extra) for a 'superior' room with a sea view and found ourselves on the first floor. While the room was bigger, the balcony was not and was the size of a small-ish elevator so it needed careful planning to manoeuvre and accommodate two adults on it at the same time. Also, there was no privacy screen or such from the similar room to our left, so it got VERY awkward when both rooms were using our cramped balconies. The extra we paid got us a slightly bigger room with a large rattan/wicker sofa, similar to those in conservatories 20-odd years ago. Unfortunately, we think that was the last time it had been deep cleaned as the grimy dust lay thick between the wicker. My husband uses a CPAP machine and the beside table was right beside the arm of the sofa, so the CPAP was drawing in this filthy, greasy dust. A quick visit to reception to point out our disappointment in the room / balcony and the cleanliness of the sofa was met with 'the picture is clear in the brochure' so nothing they could do, but they would send a cleaner up to clean the sofa. The cleaner apparently came and gave the sofa a wipe down but there was little to no improvement so we pushed the sofa as far away from the bed as we could and covered the wicker arm with a towel. We followed up with our holiday rep who told us that he had already been advised by the reception team that we would probably complain but there was nothing they could do as 'that's what we'd paid for'. Yeh, very 'superior'! A few TripAdvisor reviews mention the cats around the hotel but let me elaborate, there are cats EVERYWHERE, lots and LOTS of cats, especially in the pool area. You understand why, when you pass the management office heading to the pool where there are numerous food bowls out for them. On arrival at the pool, cats were lying under, on and around the sun loungers and many of the loungers had cat poo on them. The lifeguard made no attempt to move the cats from the loungers or clean up the mess they left behind. When my husband pointed out the mess on some of the 'prime spot' loungers, he took an age to get them cleaned. Probably the worst Hotel I’ve stayed in Spain The staff were miserable and unhelpful Except the Manager she was pleasant and helpful. We booked through LOVE HOLIDAYS,absolutely no customer care at all ,Advise booking with another holiday company. They didn’t see any problems with the rooms were allocated ( see pics)
