Catalonia del Mar - Adults Only Hotel

My wife and I have travelled extensively over the years so have experienced many, many hotels. Some good, some sadly not so. I am sure that most of us have shared that experience. As a positive example, a few weeks back we went to Pageura on the western side of Majorca. My review for the Valentin Somni is on Trip Advisor. THAT IS A HOTEL THAT FULLY DELIVERS! Our experience here though has been very different. What's more, it was more expensive...We have no qualms about paying BUT when it fails to deliver.... ARRIVAL Due to flight issues we arrived in the early hours of the morning, just before 4am. When we booked this hotel, we looked online at what it offered, room wise and chose a pool view. Their website and JET2's show many different room styles on offer and that would be ok for us. The idea of a view of the mountains behind the property would be fine. However, upon arrival, we were checked in, signed all the local tax docs, handed a pass key and told 'No you aren't up there. You are on the ground floor.' I said we wanted a pool view and was told. 'This is what you have paid for, so this is what you get'.....Those were the exact words. There wasn't any offer to change as we had hoped for an elevated room. 'We are full so this is what you get.' Again, those were the exact words. So welcoming... Over the coming days,I knew the, 'we are full' wasn't the case as I asked someone else at the desk. Anyway we were tired and so went to our room. It was dark but it was a pool view. It was right next to it. We crashed out as we had been on the go for hours and so we would sort in the morning. When we awoke, the sun was blazing down, we popped outside and were met by three lovely couples who had rooms either side of us. They made us feel so welcome so we thought, 'lets give it a go here then.' We did and made the most of it. HOTEL POSITIVES: The air con was fantastic in our room (spoke with many whose system wasn't) and it needed to be as the temperature was scorching. To us, the food in the hotel is very good. If someone says they don't like it then that's fine, we are all different but we couldn't really fault it. Always lots of choice and the waiters that serve the tables (mine sweep actually and on occasion take your plate just as you finish) are too attentive but very friendly. In the main. It is a buffet service and you are checked in as you enter. I wore the accepted dress code of long trousers and smart casual top. Many rolled up in football shirts, shorts and flip flops. The dress code is not observed. One woman who was a manager of sorts was not so welcoming. Another of the managers, Pedro was a decent guy and always had a smile. Personalities are the same everywhere. We accept that. What was bizarre was a manager coming around handing out a questionnaire about the restaurant and wanting us to complete and hand in to reception. I was eating my food.... There is a time and place.
