Reviews
- Upon receipt of the hotel it took a very long time to be checked in which is a red flag straight away
- Every night the noise from the opposite hotel would go up until 11pm, however the night clubs would go up until 2am which prevented sleep.
- Hygiene levels in the room are of low standard in which damp can be seen in the bathroom. EVEN WORSE, I entered the toilet one evening and could not mistake what I witnessed which was an enormous cockroach next to the toilet as shown in the attached images. Please note as soon as I arrived into the bathroom, the cockroach went into the bidet which I believe there is an infestation. At night my family and I could hear a cockroach noise coming from the AC unit which was concerning.
- WIFI quality was absolutely horrible and you could not do anything with it any messages or Google searches would kick you off the WIFI. I complained about this matter in which reception sent an individual to have a look. He did not have a clue what was going on and the only check that was done was if he could connect to the WIFI. No additional tests, I even showed the individual the speed of the WIFI through an individual app and he did not understand this nor take this information further. The only apology we got was a Champagne delivered to the room which was thoughtful however not a fix. Last time I checked, a bottle of fizz does not fix WIFI. If it does, please inform me.
- The waiting time for food was very long at times which was unprofessional, in specific for the grilled meat (personally waited 11 minutes for steak).
- The evening entertainment is of low standard also the day activity’s are non existent comparing to 3 years ago.
Overall the points above conclude the stay at Alexandra Gala. My family and I will not be attending in future. My advice for any new customers would be to choose carefully and spend the extra money for a better quality hotel.
Firstly,
Yes it is one of these type hotels where people try to reserve the sun beds. There are small signs around saying not to reserve sun beds and opening hours of pool area from 10am. Despite this 25% of sun beds already have towels on.
This needs to be managed by the staff please as immediately sets the hotel off on a negative feeling.
Whilst on the subject of pool area,
The way of getting towels is VERY backdated, having to go to reception where you are expected to pay for a towel (inside tip, go to the spa and get one for free).
Only hotel i have ever been to where you are expected to speak to Spains Grumpiest lifeguard (chunky guy with glasses and brown short curly hair) to get a towel. Why aren't there towels available on the side and a towel bin to drop them off also.
Pool area also had daily entertainment, which was a woman with the most annoying screeching voice blasting loud music and jumping about, didnt match the audience at all with only 5 people joining of a crowd of around 90 guests dotted about. Also no snacks or food available from pool bar which you have to wait until 11.30 for it to be open (why not open it earlier at 09.30 as plenty of staffing around who could do this). Only one staff working there.
Now you might think im just being grumpy but the negative vibes continue.
The restaurant is a bit of a free for all, no waiter/waitress at entrance greeting you. Service can be variable, had 3 separate meals where eaten most of my food to then have a waiter come ask what I would like to drink (bit late at that point). No free water is provided and they charge almost 3 Euros for water, doesn't quite match the "Half Board" that is advertised.
Good selection is good and plenty of variety.
If any dietary restrictions its a nightmare, food signs dont clearly list what is in the dishes and often not next to correct item so dont know what your getting.
The rooms, well they are a decent size and nice enough bathroom, however air-conditioning is terrible. No control panel to adjust temperate only a dial for fan speed which is a set temperature.
Bedding you get a thin sheet and in cupboard 2 blankets which are fluffy and itchy. So either get really cold or too warm and itchy.
This could be improved with the option to actually control the room temperature. Balcony area is nice with flowers and good amount of space. Wall between neighbours could be a little bit higher but that is just personal preference.
Room only had one dressing gown and set of slippers. Also had to ask for additional blankets to stay warm.
Hotel staff are hit and miss, clearly a dislike for the English at the front reception area as can give a cold impression on interaction with limited English (admittedly we are in Spain).
Hotel Spa and gym was disappointing, many of the gym items have seen better days with worn or missing parts. Hotel gym is VERY warm, unable to control air con inside and when asking spa staff if they could lower the temperature got a shrug. No water provided in gym area (first time ive come across that) and no gym cleaning equipment available like cleaning spray.
Spa was a let down, half of the Saunas and steam room were out of action. Also lists 4 different shower types but in fact is just a bucket shower and then 3 of the same type showers. Jacuzzi also not working on one of the days.
Overall feeling disappointed with my stay, this is based on poor control of towels around pool area, free for all school canteen feel of restaurant plus hit and miss customer service levels of the staff. Lists itself as a luxury hotel but the poor management is evident. For the price paid feel like I have been charged too much. Would be reluctant to return in the future in its current way of operating which I imagine is worse in the very busy Summer. If you don't mind being disappointed in getting a sun bed and poor service then feel free to stay here but for a bit more to pay there are better options out there (in my opinion of course). Would rate 5/10.
Let’s start with the positives and there are a one or two close to the beach, close to Las Christianos; and close to night life. The rooms are okay, comfy enough beds, rooms cleaned everyday. There is a spa which is either included in the price, depending on your booking or is €17 per day. It is tranquil and a delight to go to, not everything works at once though, so no steam and only one of the two saunas. Think that’s it!!!
The negatives.. The Cleaning only superficial the skirting and nooks and crannies are NOT clean. No duvet but a blanket in a cupboard that had not been washed between stays.
The staff work hard but all look sad and that is reflected in the service, food laid out without any love or care, food adequate but not the four star it claims to be. Everything a bit sad and cheap looking. If the fresh fruit has gone at breakfast then forget about a top up, the food seems worse in the evening and we were served some undercooked turkey steak one evening. Nothing looks pleasant the chicken drumsticks were grey!! Juices from machine the worst I have ever seen, scum lined OJ does not start anyone’s morning off well. Coffee all instant not a bean in sight. Canteen style, clattering and noise levels that make your bones jangle.
Pool area lovely, the rule is do not save sunbeds; well the towels are out early so all the good spots will be gone if you don’t put your out as well.
If you want any peace and quiet it is available between 8am and 11.30am after that it is pure carnage, excessive noise levels from a very animated animation team, music too loud and not suited to clientele. Then it just goes down hill from there in terms of peace and quiet, the night life is another level, not just from our hotel but from surrounding ones, Hotel Troya across the way could be heard from the moon I’m sure.
The rooms are not equipped to drown out the noise, ear plugs help if you want to get to sleep before midnight. If you get a premium room chances are you will near the foyer.. good luck theses are the noisiest rooms and we moved to a further away room,
If you want to party hard and don’t mind the excessive noise it’s for you; if you want a mix then it’s not for you, it is high octane all the way.
Not a four star at all no clue how they managed to swing that one. A three star would be more appropriate, at least then you don’t have any expectations that are not met.
Not for us, but the surrounding areas are gorgeous.
Our experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing from the very beginning. We discovered mold in our room, and although we immediately reported it, nothing was done for three days. When they finally “fixed” the issue, they decided to paint the room without informing us or offering a different room during the process. We returned to a strong, unbearable smell of fresh paint—completely unacceptable, especially since we were traveling with a small child. I then had to wait over 30 minutes in line at reception to get the situation resolved, and only after that were we moved to a new room.
The restaurant was another major letdown. The food quality depended entirely on who was cooking that day, with some evenings being truly awful. Even worse, cockroaches were freely crawling on the counters where food was served and even in our room. When I reported this to the receptionist, I was told that “this is how it is in Tenerife,” which is not an acceptable excuse for poor hygiene.
Other unpleasant surprises included having to pay a €15 deposit for pool towels and an additional €1 every time you want to change them. The indoor play area for children is open only one hour during the day and one hour in the evening (21:00–22:00), which is extremely inconvenient.
The only positive aspect of this hotel is the children’s pool.
Overall, I absolutely do not recommend this hotel. It is far from worth the money and was a very disappointing experience for a family holiday.
They say on arrival, there is no life guard until 11am, I did not see a single lifeguard my entire 10 days stay, just a guy in a corner giving out towels and collecting them so if you have young ones u may want to consider this.
The all inclusive food options at the snack bar are quite basic compared to the food advertised (you can pay extra for these) it isn't explained to you that only certain things are included.
We paid for late checkout (€11per hour) but it doesn't include food or drink after midday, even if u pay extra
Things which I think could be improved: although our room was cleaned everyday, the tea cups and tea bags etc were never replenished, on other all inclusive I've been on they always have been.
The food could be labelled a bit better, all the desserts just said 'assorted desserts' which wasn't too helpful, and I wouldn't know where to start to navigate that if you had allergies.
Overall a great holiday, just some points I think I would like to have known before I went.
Thankyou hotel gala x
Location walking distance to beach, shopping, restaurants.
Management were very professional, polite, helpful.
Catering staff took pride in their hospitality making sure food was presented and cooked to a high standard
Cleaning staff who were always extremely busy in hotel and accommodation, pool and bar deserved a special mention.
35 years travelling hotels with business and pleasure, far more than most people could imagine this hotel provides everything you need.
Some major chain hotels in uk could do with a week holiday here to understand customer focus.
Thank you I will return.
Everything is pretty much walkable. Only a couple of issues, the music from Veronica’s blares at silly o’clock in the morning, you have to pay for drinks (even water) when you have half board (dinner/lunch). The waiters can just rush you when you have either just sit down or are mid mouthful. Other than that, first time solo travelling and i felt very safe and very frequently people!
