Mar Hotels Playa Mar & Spa in Port de Pollenca

Just back from Majorca and Mar Hotel yesterday. I am writing an honest review from our experience as a couple in their early 40’s and 50, we were there for 8 nights. Hotel- location is average at best, there are a few restaurants close by but mostly typical shops repeated again and again, no pubs with music close enough to walk and definitely no clubs (fairly quick bus trip towards Alcudia needed), beach fairly narrow (best to go towards Alcudia) Hotel itself is unbelievably quiet on the hotel side, we had to ask several times to several different people to have a little music by the pool (nothing loud or offensive), several comments it reminded people of a cemetery!! 100% No atmosphere around the pool for sure!! Rooms, definitely try to get a suit, more space and bathroom area a lot better designed than the single rooms. First half of the week we were commenting on how clean the rooms were kept, second half we had to ask for it to be re cleaned- watched one day as we were still in the room and all they did was make the beds(badly) and mop the floor- low surfaces and sinks/toilets were not cleaned. Food/drink- they try their best with the food, every night there is a feature menu, definitely a choice for everyone, tables clean and staff tried their best to make you feel welcome (restaurant manager is a really nice bloke- looks a bit Stern (pressure I guess) but very nice when you talk with him, drink - everything you could possibly want and generous with levels. Smoking - this is a non smoking hotel, for the non smokers I guess that’s good, but for the smokers (my partner) you either have to be on your balcony or literally on the street outside the hotel - no real consideration for all paying customers - even 1 table and a couple of chairs would have been appreciated- but no acceptance. Entertainment- Walfred and his team tried hard, but unfortunately as I said everything seems so quiet, it’s very limited. Staff- no complaints about helpfulness or attitude, some really nice people. I do however have the opinion that they have very limited power to change anything and are very constrained in any flexibility (having a speaker by the pool for example), everyone else seemed to have responsibility for it and no one really could sort it, a lot of people were complaining about the lack of atmosphere by the pool- Walfred explained they only had one portable speaker for both parts of the hotel and that the hotel would not fix anything permanent outside on both side of the hotel, second part of the hotel is a cross the street. Outside space, definitely wouldn’t want to be there peak season, limited space and not that many beds, no covered area outside to go if it’s raining also. Mosquitoes- yes they do have a problem with mosquitoes, we came prepared and didn’t get bitten too much, others were suffering though (plenty of shops selling repellent) If the hotel really does take note of the comments today, please invest in some speakers around bo
