Reviews
For the 100 euros per night that I paid, I don’t think it’s too much to ask to be spoken to with respect, not to have dirt everywhere, and to have a decent breakfast. You ask for a lot but offer nothing—that should be your slogan.
Disappointing is an understatement… I have been to many countries, but I have never felt as unwelcome as I did in this hotel. The room had no fridge. The shower was basically the entire bathroom—when I took a shower, the water stayed all over the floor, making it difficult to stand there without slippers. They should have at least provided a mop or something.
The window let in drafts because it didn’t close properly. And as for the reception staff, I have no words—the most disgusting people I have ever encountered in my life. We asked for a fork from the kitchen because we had bought some pastries, and the answer was a firm no. Whatever we asked for or needed to use, the answer was always no.
There was no designated smoking area except outside, on the ground floor. And breakfast? Just croissants, butter, jam, and coffee. For the amount of money we paid, it was truly disappointing. But overall, this was the worst hotel experience of my life—and the worst experience in this country. I will definitely never return.
We spoke once again with the staff at the reception the following morning and asked to speak to the manager. We were informed that he was away from work (as he had been for the rest of our stay up to this point), but that he would be back first thing on Monday morning, the day of our departure. Monday morning arrived and no sign of said manager. We were assured that he would be in the office by midday. We returned at the allotted time and still the manager was nowhere to be found. We took some comfort in the fact that, according to the gentleman at reception, the manager had agreed to reimburse us half the cost of our stay. We were asked to provide the Résidence with our bank details, which we duly did. A week later, having received no acknowledgement of our bank details (and no payment), we contacted the Résidence. A terse email came back informing us that we would be reimbursed for one night only (the night from hell) and that a payment had already been made. Furthermore, it was now "too late" to consider any payment other than for a single night. The credit card that had allegedly been reimbursed bore no relation to ours. We contacted the centre again, expressing our surprise at the amount now being offered and pointing out that the paltry sum they had given had in fact been credited to someone else’s card. Again, no acknowledgement (or apology). We started to look at our legal options but then received a message from Booking.com saying that a payment would be made in 7-12 working days. A payment for a single night’s stay was finally credited to our card in the last week of October – more than two months since our stay.
If I could give minus stars for the Résidence Internationale de Paris I would. They treat customers such as us with absolute contempt. The “service” is appalling and the duty of care to families such as ours, who felt threatened and intimidated by groups of noisy and aggressive hoodlums in the middle of the night, non-existent. To top it all, the management hid from us and didn’t even have the decency to apologise. A disgrace. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!!
I feel it only fair to clarify that the offer of a "refund" for our stay was anything but that. When pushed as to why the refund was for one night only and contrary to what their reply had suggested, the Résidence played the poverty card. In that case, might I suggest that you do not post comments saying that you are going to do something when clearly you have no intention of honouring it. Dishonest.
