Reviews
Rooms soundproofed apart from huge window vents which are unsealed and open all the time, so quiet inside but all the street noise coming in, very very loud at weekends until 1am with dj/ club on ground floor. Think twice about a peaceful sleep here, sadly.
Have to say front desk ace and bar staff amazing, resturant desk all over the place on our last night, weirdest experience in 25+ years of business travel. Should have eaten out it would have been so much less stress.
Bar staff good fun and good buzz, front desk super helpful just maybe eat elsewhere. 'AMAGAT' is 5 mins down the road and worth it by far and superb hidden spot up cobbled street dead end. Spend your money there instead, or just do the pizza only option in the first room.
Restaurant has amazing food, incredible breakfast and brunch 😋 and a magnificent bar at night on the rooftop.
no Substance. Everything from the service to the facilities was below the standard you would expect for a hotel of this cost. Save yourself some money and stay somewhere cheaper, you’ll have a nicer experience.
Check in was slow with just a small area with one desk and staff member causing long queues.
The room was clean and comfortable, the bed especially was very comfortable. The room is basic though, there are zero facilities; no kettle etc. the lighting was dim, this was presumably due to the hanging light in the corner which was broken and on the floor.
Despite it being a double room there was only a small single bottle of water offered.
The bathroom was basic but functional. There were few complimentary items and what was offered were only single items, not duplicates for a double occupancy room. Instead of shower gel/shampoo all that was left was a single small body wash bar of soap; very unhygienic for two people to share and this was not replenished for day two despite the room being serviced.
The facilities of the room is more akin to a cheap hostel in central Paris rather than the boutique hotel this claims to be with its associated price tag.
Service was poor across the board. We went to the roof terrace; despite there being 3 staff members and only three tables it took 15mins for anyone to come to our table despite us asking and being told to wait - the staff members seemed to prefer chatting and taking photos on their phone than serving customers.
Breakfast was a huge disappointment. Despite charging 21€ per person it was one of the most shambolic hotel breakfasts I’ve ever experienced.
Staff are very slow to flip the tables so you spend most of your breakfast next to piles and piles of dirt crockery. On the first morning most items had run out; including the croissants. My partner was unable to get a bowl for cereal; when asked they were told they were in the wash. She had cereal in a glass and then was told there were no spoons so attempted to eat it with a fork.
Ordering a coffee involved a 15min queue and then it was disgusting; tasted like the beans had been burnt.
Giving them the benefit of the doubt that it was a Sunday morning and close to breakfast finishing we tried again the next morning but it was the same; despite there being 90mins left of service most items had run out. The croissants eventually were replenished but what little hot food there was sat there cold. I attempted again to order a coffee; two staff members took my order and then walked off and finally a third was able to make a latte.
My partner had stayed here last year and raved about the breakfast but it had certainly got a lot worse. Do yourself a favour and avoid the breakfast by paying 7€ for one of the many breakfast offers in the countless local cafes and brasseries nearby.
All in all this hotel was a huge let down, a waste of money and is staffed by a lot of disinterested employees whom seem to care little about food service and guest satisfaction. It’s a real let down to the Mama Shelter brand and I will not be returning.
First of all, as a New Yorker, I was surprised and impressed to find that their interior pizza restaurant is the equal of most pizza places I've found in NYC, and I love it for that.
Secondly, Mama Shelter has the best family accommodations in Paris. When I traveled there with my wife and two kids, the kids got their own room, with their own bathroom, and plenty of space, which was amazing as it allowed my wife and I to have some privacy in an adjacent room with a conjoined hallway to store our luggage and shoes in. The cost of this was not much different to a regular room, so I dare you to find a better value anywhere.
Thirdly, and this is a big one, the breakfast buffet is so good I basically advertised it to my wife for 10 years before we could finally enjoy it together. It is so fully featured and delicious I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.
The perks are that it's a very stylish hotel. I don't think they do room service, but honestly, just go downstairs to the buffer or pizza place with outdoor and indoor seating, or enjoy the nightclub vibes in the evening if you're able. The merch is a nice touch as well to commemorate your trip. Yes, it is in a homier part of eastern Paris, which means it's not as glitzy as a more central location. But if you want to stay at a stylish and relatively quiet location in Paris, this is one of the best deals you'll find, with a very helpful concierge desk to boot. Seriously, I look forward to staying at Mama Shelter as much as I do returning to Paris.
If you enjoy eating reasonable pub food in a low ceiling, cramped, discothequeesque place, this is your go to.
On a plus the house red was good.
The daily breakfast was excellent! Delicious in every way. The front desk staff were very helpful and courteous.
I probably would have preferred a location closer to central Paris. The 76 bus was very convenient, but the Metro was a little too far.
