The positives:
- we arrived past midnight and the check in was still very well organised, we were greeted with a drink and refreshing towels.
- the hotel is mostly well maintained, quality of food and drinks are a 4/5
- the spa team does an amazing job, definitely recommended getting a massage
- pool and beach areas are perfect
The negatives:
- on our first night, we were given room 1101, which is right behind the reception, overlooking the parking lot of the hotel. The bed was terrible (old frame or mattress). Due to its proximity to the lobby we were woken up at around 6 am with guests departing, leaving us with just 5 hours of sleep. Already during check in we complained about the room being unacceptable but the reception couldn't help us at that point which left us sleeping there for one night. The next morning we were first offered to move into another room (not the category we have booked but a lower one) and then again move to the room we initially paid for. As a compensation we were promised EUR 25 and a bottle of wine by the manager. Luckily, we were able to move to the correct room already that day so at least we didn't have to change rooms yet another time. The bottle of wine never arrived and 12 EUR were deducted from the final bill, because we were given the correct room earlier. It must be noted that both of us are Hilton Gold status members and this is absolutely unacceptable for a 5 star hotel.
- secondly, the staff was unfortunately not trained very well and there was clearly a lack of standards in the resort. Example 1: one day we ordered an iced latte at breakfast and got it without question. Day 2 we were told they dont do iced drinks at breakfast, only hot. Example 2: we were by the pool and only wanted some fries with tzatziki instead of the large dishes (e.g., burger) on the menu. Fries were possible but we were told that tzatziki is not available, despite serving it in the main restaurant (same kitchen). Example 3: during breakfast we asked for some fresh cutlery and the server literally rolled her eyes when we were asking for it. Example 4: cleanliness in the rooms was fine but the floor was basically sandy all the time. Also on the last 2 days we were never given enough towels. Also you get just .25l of water every day in your room which is a big disappointment.
Overall: it's a very pretty hotel with a lovely beach and pool, the staff is overall friends and they all try their very best. Unfortunately, you feel that there's a lack of training and defined standards by the management for the resort. This holiday could have easily been a 5/5 if small improvements in the overall processes and guest handling were made.
