Reviews
Few negatives just to balance the review.
No microwave or oven. Wifi is erratic. Not enough hot water to fill up the cave bath tub. Breakfast should have some bread and fruits too. Rooftop pool needs more lighting.
The suite itself was very nice and clean. The kitchenette had everything you might need, including an electric stove, pots and pans, etc. It was a very spacious place. The one downside was that there was no door for the bathroom, meaning that when we showered, the others would have to go hang out on the balcony. I would say that this place is probably better suited for couples.
Our host Elèna was super kind. She helped us organize our taxis to and from the hotel, arranged some excursions, and was generally super kind and helpful. She made our time much better.
I would say there are two downsides to this place:
One was tourists walking into the private areas, as the popular photo location sits at the entrance to many of the suites including this one. People would often just wander into our balcony and the other suites nearby. Some people were extremely shameless and would even get sassy when asked to leave. It gets particularly bad around sunset.
The other is that the steps leading down are uneven and steep, making this not ideal for people with disabilities, the elderly, or those with a fear of heights. For me this was not a problem, but for two people staying with us it was a challenge.
Overall, even with the negatives, I would strongly recommend staying here. It was incredibly relaxing, very clean and very nice. It was a near-perfect time! Thank you so much Elèna!
We stayed here during our honeymoon, and the reviews online don’t properly reflect the considerable “bad” with this property - especially for the price. There’s a lot of BAD.
The location is directly on the main tourist path, where hundreds of tourists (24 hours per day) stand on the steps to the apartment taking photos of the blue domes. No joke, we had dozens to hundreds of people we had to push through at ALL HOURS every single day to get to and from the door to our suite.
There is no sign posted that says “private” or “no entry” - and your guides actually invited people to open the gate and take photos from the stairs (which lead directly to the suite). It’s insane. The easiest solution would be to simply post a sign that says “private” and 80% of those tourists would stay out. The property badly needs to address that issue.
We had a break-in one day, because either the cleaner or property manager left the window unlocked. Someone rummaged through our things and stole our cash. The property claimed they had a video camera on the premises, but the video “wasn’t working that night” when someone broke into the Cave Suite. Very, very questionable and (frankly) poor business.
We also lacked hot water during our stay. They had someone coming on site to fix the hot water twice during our weeklong stay, but they provided us no advance notice of the worker on-site either time. So we had random people around us (both on and near the suite) multiple times throughout our stay. One time is went up and tried to kick the guy out because he was lounging in our hot tub chairs and taking photos. He was apparently the water repair man. Just super shady and no communicative hosts, who badly need to improve their business model for this property.
The suite also had poor WiFi, basically everywhere. But all the other issues were so overwhelmingly bad that our lack of WiFi was just icing on the cake. If you’re looking to spend this amount of money on a honeymoon/romantic suite, we STRONGLY suggest you look elsewhere. We’d give this place 0/5 stars if we could.
Once here, you will discover Santorini’s true treasure. A lovely and absolutely delightful human being, Anastasia is the professional private concierge that you are looking for—quite easily the most important person for our entire trip.
She can smooth the path to reservations at the loveliest table at the most amazing seafood restaurant at the water’s edge—yes, and to our absolute delight—but so much more than this awaits you, if you let yourself be open.
Listen to Anastasia. Take in her sincere and generous advice. And you will see. Oia is not a place, but an experience—the kind that will confirm to you that travel is indeed life lived intensely.
The experience begins when a Greek statue comes to life and picks you up from the airport, for a friendly ride to Oia. Bush is very much our hero—and he can transport you anywhere in Santorini.
Anastasia meets you at the pick up point, and walks you to your suite, while your luggage magically winds its way down the steps to your blue and white paradise. Bring a wide angle lens, my friend.
Take advice from this experienced traveler. Travel light. Fold an extra Longchamps Pliage bag into your luggage. And if you have a chance—if you are ever so fortunate in life to make a reservation at this private suite—make your reservation quickly and without hesitation. You will not be this lucky twice.
Walking out onto your own private space on a quiet blue sunlit morning in Oia—it is sublime.
