Where to stay in Catania

A beautiful hotel set on the cliff just outside Catania - rooms are big, have AC, well serviced, great pool (30m plus x 20), great pool bar, amazing buffet breakfast, access to sea. Lovely for a family holiday.

Rooms were very good service good but if you have tea don't expect to be asked if you want a drink after all 4.5 stars

We were only going to stay one night and ended up staying two. We found the room to be quiet and comfortable. The view is spectacular and while we didn’t use the pool it was available and we sunned ourselves near it. Breakfast is satisfying with lots of choices including American coffee. The reason why I give only 4 stars is the (lack of) wellness and spa facilities. The heated pool outside and the wellness and spa center was unavailable, unfortunately 🥺 The sun terrace was closed too, even though the weather was great. The hotel is fine but our bathroom sink was half clogged and breakfast is expensive - 24€ per person. You also have to wait for the barman to come back every time you want a drink. That being said, the pool and the staff are nice.

A great clean hotel with great staff. It is very convenient in case you want to stay close to the airport (only a 9min drive). Also, they are pet friendly and gave us treats for the dog.

Our flight got cancelled very last minute and we needed somewhere to stay. This was an amazing choice. The hotel is beautiful and clean, comfy beds, gorgeous pool. It is expensive in terms of food/drinks - but maybe to be expected in the location. I wish the restaurant was better. I had a great stay there. The staffs were friendly and helpful. My flight was cancelled that I went back to the hotel. I checked out already as my flight was supposed to be very early. They still let me go back to my room to stay until the usual check out hours even though the cleaning ladies had already started the cleaning.

Former Grand Hotel Centrale, eighteenth century, fairly restored. Personnel interaction with the guests accordingly company policy on the site. Cleaning protocols adapted to the contemporary times. Rooftop restaurant with an excellent view on the volcano.

Positives : Very central. Rooftop bar was nice. Beds and room comfortable during the summer. Afternoon housekeeping checks on you to see if you need anything (soap, shower gel, coffee for machine etc). Staff were very helpful. To work on : It would be great if they had a swimming pool.

Nice, well located hotel. The rooms are large with a refrigerator and bathrobes. The free breakfast is not on the rooftop with the view.

Great location good value for the price

The best hotel in Catania. The position is great, rigth in front of the sea. Near the hotel you can find everything: bar, restaurant, supermarket, atm, Tabasco’s all in 200 meters from the hotel. I really felt at home here. My room was number 210 and I had the luck to meet signora Serafina, she is fantastic and gave me lots of advices. Comfort and professional approach

I liked the hotel, the windows in the room overlooked the supermarket, so I slept peacefully, there was no noise. Breakfasts were great. The staff was polite and always helped me.

Having traveled the entire island, I can say that among city hotels this is the best with its small beach where herons roam!!! With Turkish requests, it’s better not to come here; they won’t court you, but the opportunity to walk to the center and the fishing port with a cafe and the freshest seafood is worth it!!! Shower sink was blocked and I had to jump out of the pool every time I took shower. Location is okay, they checked me in really early, nice staff.

A very decent 4 star hotel. Very clean, the rooms nicely lit, the shower spacious. The breakfast limited in selection, for example forget the english breakfast buffet style. But still, there was food to consume. Hotel located just 10 minutes on foot from villa bellini and via etnea. Receptionists very customer oriented and professional. A la prossima.

The furniture and the air conditioning were very old , the bathroom door was not closing . It seems that no renovation was done in 20 years or so. For sure not a 4 star hotel .

A beautiful, modern boutique hotel that is close to everything with lovely staff - from the maids to the lady at breakfast to the bar and reception staff. Lovely walk-in waterfall shower. The air conditioning is simply delicious - we moved here from an AirBnB that had broken air conditioning and given the temperature had been in the 30s by day and late 20s by night we wouldn't have been able to cope...

Not a 4 star Hotel. We had to stay in Catania as our flight was cancelled. It seams that they just stopped the work in the bathroom. Stains on my towel. Dirt on the floor and an awful area of the town. View out of the window is a parking lot and litter. At night you can hear people screaming outside. Staff is friendly. Breakfast good.

Nice hotel, clean room & lovely breakfast. Good to spend a night in Catania. We weren't so sure about the streets outside of the hotel, they seemed a bit shabby and my mother got a little bit scared. A walk of about 10 minutes is necessary to get to the nicer parts of the city. Don't park in the massive parking over the road, it closes early (we thought it was 24hours) thanks to the parking spaces...

Nice clean hotel but a bit run down- blinds broken, hooks coming out of walls. Area central but be careful not to take a wrong turn! We ended up in a dark narrow street full of rats that felt a little threatening.

A hotel nearby the airport for a great price. The rooms are very large and almost in order. We were unlucky once when the air conditioning was broken and went out after 10 minutes (Which is annoying in a warm country like Italy). The rooms are spacious and cofirtbale, on our side of the building you can see the Etna erupting but from the other side the view is to a rooftop. The bathroom is great with soap included. The price is also pretty good. There is also a pool available for use in the day.

We stayed the night here on our last day in Sicily since we had a super early flight, and we didn’t want to make the drive early in the morning from Taormina. This is NOT a four star establishment. The check in process took some time because even with four people present, only one employee was checking people in, despite three other families waiting to check. This hotel is so big I feel like one could run a marathon here. The amount of rooms is insane! The rooms are huge, equipped with a balcony and very interesting views. If, like us, you have read the reviews, then your expectations will be managed before you get there. The room smelled cigarette smoke and there was a cigarette pack in the bin that was not cleaned. We asked to change the room and the reception employee gave us another room immediately.

Hidden gem. First impressions arriving during dark hours was daunting. Place is top class, exquisite, unique. Booked suite with terrace. View was lovely. Apartment had everything needed for self catering. Staff very friendly and informative. Bed was a bit squeaky but staff helped with solution. Would recommend.

Medium good hotel. Clean, cozy, but with a few remarks on the maintenance. The air conditioning at the reception works at full speed, while the room is almost not felt.

The bed feels like a motel 8 bed. The wall paper is Peeling in the rooms and hallway. I would have given this place a 2 star but I enjoyed the bathroom size

The hotel is really clean, the attention was really kind and efficient, when I have an issue they helped me. Breakfast is tasty (because covid no buffet but they will give you what you want) the waiter are really kind. Other positive point is related rooms, they will leave you the room really tidy I like it. The only thing, sometime the internet connection was not so stable.

The excelsior was a nice stay in Catania primarily because of it's location. It is centrally located and near many points of interest and restaurants. The hotel staff was very helpful and spoke English, if one needs that. The rooms are a bit outdated but they were comfortable. It was noisy at night though, especially facing the front of the hotel.

Probably used to be a Grand Hotel. Now a little bit outdated. Would need some renovation. Beds are good though and rooms are large. Good for a stop over. Not for a holiday. Avoid the restaurant - there are many better (and cheaper) ones around

Excellent accommodations in center of Catania. Our family enjoyed the quirky decorated, clean, and well appoints rooms. The staff were amazing from offering great restaurant recommendations to the home made breakfast selections. The roof top terrace also provides amazing views of the town and Mount Etna.

Perfect! Large modern rooms in the heart the city, next to the market (in the morning), the Piazza and the restaurants. All rooms are different; we loved our round bed room. Super nice and helpful staff. Coffee shop, fruit and convenient store next door. The room is very large and provide privacy as we were 3 in the rooms.

Stayed there for two weeks, very attentive stuffs, clean rooms, no problems whatsoever. Some rooms need renovation (I moved from one room to another), but overall still very solid classic hotel.

The staff was great. The room was everything I needed after having a flight cancelled and having to book a room in short notice.

My feet got wet every time I use the sink. Broken pipes under the sink. Breakfast was ok not too many choices bacon was under cooked and soggy. Coffee was excellent. View was not the best in room 320. But who cares if I’m just a spoiled American. Staff was very polite though.

Friendly employees, clean rooms, in a quiet neighborhood and they have a few parkings available. They had everything to offer for a typical italian breakfast (granita, cornetti, delicious coffee) and the usual things for a continental breakfast.

The rooms here are very large and comfortable. The hotel offers parking and breakfast which both are convenient. The staff is very helpful and friendly providing great service and recommendations for restaurants. The location is great for walking to most restaurants and some public attractions.

We had a great suite in this nice hotel at a great location. The breakfast service was disappointing with only 1 person and no ability to self serve or even make your own coffee. With various sweet cakes, white toast, and other unhealthy options the scrambled eggs were the only thing I could eat, time to change the traditional choices I would say. Parking is problematic here.

A great hotel needs the location, the rooms, the amenities including breakfast and a good price, and above all the staff, it is only ever as good as the staff and here they are great. Not least Antonio who manages the bar, great drinks with a huge smile, a banquet of nibbles thrown in - and always a bit of old fashioned philosophy. We always come back.

Vincenzo at the front desk is amazing and very accommodating. Gave us great recommendations on where to eat, like Nitto was one of the best meals we had in Sicily. The room was large with an extremely comfortable bed. The only drawback was the location for us was a bit farther out of town and walkability wasn't great. Exceptional service for this class. Friendly staff, polite and guest-orientated reception. Fresh, basic breakfast with a twist. Clean rooms, with minimal and quality interior. Superb beds. Clean, down to earth style though never cheap. Regarding the location, it might be out of the city center, but depending on your needs this might be a plus. Parking included upon availability.

I was looking for a hotel where I can stay relatively close to the town centre and easy access to various places in the Eastern part of Sicily. Airone city Hotel was in the perfect location for me as I was always driving. Room was nice and clean (top marks!) and the staff members were very friendly and helpful. No proper dinner is served, but a light dinner is possible, and it was of good quality.

Beautiful suburban location. Ten minute walk to the San Null Metro station. Many rooms have decks with secluded privacy among the palms and other vegetation. Staff will make you cappuccino , caffe machiato, or espresso as part of the wonderful free breakfast.
