Hotel de la Ville Monza - Small Luxury Hotels of the World

The villa is beautiful, but unfortunately, that’s the only good thing I can say about this place.

We were traveling with a child and asked for plain rice, a kid’s portion. They made it for us but charged €20 for it (seems a bit overpriced since a good, large dish at their restaurant costs €24).

The salmon salad was tasty, and the veal cheeks were good too.

The tiramisu was not good; it’s better to have it in the city at a nice coffee place.

The coffee was awful, over-roasted.

I asked if they could make a piña colada, and they said yes, but they brought something unrecognizable, definitely not the right cocktail, and it cost €14 on the bill.

The rooms don’t have a kettle or coffee maker. The soap and shampoo were of poor quality, but thankfully, I had my own.

The breakfast seemed okay at first glance, but the fruit was a bit bruised, and the baked goods, except for the croissant, were not tasty. There were very few vegetables.

I’m not sure what it takes to qualify as a Small Luxury Hotel but this one certainly does not compare to the other SLHs that we have stayed at, or does it embody the hospitality that Italy is known for. We have traveled throughout Italy extensively, as well as other parts of the world and this place was quite the disappointment.
The best thing I can say about it was the breakfast was pretty good, but it was not even included as it is for most other SLH properties.

At dinner time, we were not allowed to go eat in the dining room despite it being empty, we were asked to sit in the bar. And then the only service we got was what we went out of our way to ask. We had to get up to ask for silverware, salt and pepper, oil and vinegar.

In the morning, before 10am, a housekeeper broke into our room, and when we made it clear we were still in here and needed privacy, she continued to try to push the door open to come in. I argued with her at the door telling her to please go away, and as I said she was trying to force her way into our room, until finally I had to use my whole body to shove the door closed and push her out!!!! Never in all of my world travels did we experience a horror like this. So invasive. So disrespectful.
