Caportigia Boutique Hotel

I was so disappointed with this "Fancy" hotel. The location was great and easy to find. When we got to the lobby, the hotel looked clean and nicely decorated. Check in was easy. We got to our room 205 and it was nice.

We immediately noticed some water damage on the ceiling in the bathroom areas and closet. Didn't think much of it until that night it started raining..As we were sleeping around 3am, they was water coming out of the bathroom ceiling. It was so bad that it sounded like someone had turned on the shower. My husband quickly got up and started to hold the trash can under.

I ran down to the lobby to get help, and the whole lobby was flooded. The older guy at the reception was in the phone. Once he got off I asked to call the manager and help us out. He just said "I don't know".

Next morning, we went down to talk to someone else and got no help. We explained that basically we had to use all our towels to stop the water. The lady at the reception said to me " we are on code red and this is not hotels fault". I was pissed and finally told her that I wanted her to tell her Manager that I'm not paying for the night and this unacceptable.

She said she would talk to her manager. Then she came in our room with house cleaning and brought extra towels. She also took pictures of the areas that were leaking.

Second night it rained again and we complained again. Eventually, they did not charge us for the first night and discount the second night.
Ps. Room 203 was also leaking. I ran into a lady that was out in the hallway looking for help.

I would be careful staying here.

If it rains in Siracusa at all, many of the rooms will leak water badly!!!

This happened 2 nights in a row, and when we notified several front desk staff, they acted like this was the first time and it wasn't the hotel's fault (this was untrue, as we could see areas that were patched where the ceiling had leaked previously).

Some staff and custodians were empathetic to our situation, but most were dismissive or would outright gaslight us during our honeymoon.

Arrived today expecting a 5 star hotel experience as they advertise themselves to be and received at most a 3.5 star experience. This is NOT a 5 star hotel. As a result we left given the state of the rooms we saw.

The location is excellent, but that is where I would leave it at. There was a tough attitude from the front desk from the beggining given that they have 1 staff member handling all guest requests.

We had 3 rooms on the second floor and each of the rooms had beige stains on the sheets, a ceiling lamp whose base was broken off of the roof and dangling, brown stains on the bathroom walls and chipped wet paint in the bathroom roof. When we went downstairs to point this out to the front desk person, their answer was "its been this way for 10 years and no one has mentioned this." That told us all we needed to know about the place and unfortunately given we are in this part of Sicily for more than a day decided to move to another hotel. Overall, would not recommend you stay here if you are expecting 5 star levels of luxury or service.
