Bourbon Street Boutique Apartments by OYO in Bangkok

I'm reviewing the restaurant, not the hotel. I didn't stay there. I had written a previous review, but the owner (Doug) responded back to me as nasty as his food is, so I'll be more candid. Don't get your hopes up, this is NOT Southern food. This is an abysmal adaptation of such, cooked by Thai foreigners. The first hint is that it is named Bourbon Street, as no one from Louisiana actually eats on Bourbon. It is a tourist trap with bland tourist food, as is this same restaurant here in Bangkok.

Doug told me there is a group of Black women who eat there every week. He told me that like that was a selling point to his bland food. I didn't know how to take that weird uncalled for statement.

First, I wasn't greeted nor even offered any water. Second, the waiter didn't speak English, so I had to use Google translate on my phone. The food was less than subpar. Doug stated he and his Mother have been cooking this way for 30 years. However, I'm sure it wasn't to anyone in the South! We know better, and would've have told him and his Mother as such!

I wanted to try several things, so I ordered several entrees. I was gravely disappointed. Among other things, the fried okra was not seasoned, and barely coated, like tempura shrimp. I took the rest of my food home to my dog to eat, because I had already paid for ALL of it. My dog was the only one suitable to eat this GENTRIFIED contraption of "Cajun" food. I didn't ask Doug for anything free, however Gentrifiers all seem to think that way.

Regardless, the whole experience just made me miss REAL Southern food, and the way my culture actually cooks! Don't worry Dougie and your Google-Translate staff, I won't be back. My money and time is best spent elsewhere. Yours would be best spent learning actual SOUTHERN cooking for your "SOUTHERN" restaurant. Smh...
