The Dewberry Charleston

Spent my mini moon at The Dewberry. The property itself is beautiful. The rooftop bar and Spa are great amenities to have while traveling.

The problem lies with customer service. Our flight was cancelled and we needed to stay another night. The front desk initially offered us our current rate for another night but then quickly called our room back stating we needed to pay weekend rates. Okay, I can understand following the rules but when I spoke with Laura at the front desk, the demeanor was unpleasant and an apology for the initial mix up on rates was not given.

I moved to another hotel for the night and wrote a note to Viva, who I believe is Director of Operations. Viva was attentive at first and stated they offered me a discount off of the weekend room rate… they did not. I double checked the room rate on the website to make sure I wasn’t making a mistake. The rate listed on the website for a weekend night was the same rate Laura quoted me for my extra night. She assured me she would get to the bottom of it… a week later and I heard nothing….until I followed up with Viva. Truthfully, I don’t think I would have received an email back had I not sent another note. Maybe this was a one off but there are plenty of other beautiful hotels in the area that are comparable or better. I’ll be back to Charleston but not to the Dewberry.
