Hotel Schöngarten garni

Very ordinary. For 3 star superior, there was no provision made for fans in the summer heat. If you opened windows you were invaded by mosquitoes. The management was not very obliging. We were in the hotel for 5 night and had taken 3 rooms and yet we were charged 7 euros to wash 7 plates for a birthday cake! Not the money but reflected the lack of hospitality of the owner.

To be fair, the rooms are really nice, the beds quite comfortable and the breakfast is fine. I probably would have given the hotel a 3 to 4 star rating. However, the problem really was with the staff. When we booked, we asked if we could already access the room at 9am rather than 3pm as we wanted to work. Also we would like to stay a bit longer the day after. They answered they cannot confirm it yet but we should ask the day before arrival again. So we did, it was not possible, but that's ok as the terms are different in the hotel. I therefore asked if we could sit somewhere else together, we do not require anything and would just work on our laptops. They said we can sit in the breakfast room from 11am. When we arrived, around 10am, we asked if we could access the breakfast room already. The manager said in a quite discouraging way that he confirmed 11am, not 10am, but allowed us to access the room (of about 6 tables, 4 or 5 were empty…). At around 1pm, they asked us to leave as they wanted to prepare the room for the next day, but we could access our room at 2pm. We went for lunch and thereafter went to the room (there was no free water but 0.5l for EUR 2.80. At checkout, they asked us to pay EUR 5.10 for the bottle, I do not know why). On the phone they said that additional drinks can be ordered until 11pm. As I said, we were there for working and around 10pm we called and asked for coffee. The answer was the machine would take 15 minutes to start and he does not want to do it. So no coffee for us… The next morning, we had breakfast, which was fine. After having checked out, we asked if we could return to the breakfast room as previously discussed (the breakfast time was just over minutes before). The hotel staff member looked at us very bugged and said no, we clean it now. We asked if we could go there after it has been cleaned. She said, even more bugged, ok, but this will take 2 hours (again, 6 tables….). We asked if there was another place to sit and she said, again more bugged, in the garden there are tables and chairs. We went there – the garden was empty and the entire hotel maximum half booked (it was a Sunday). After we have started working for maybe 5-10 minutes, the hotel manager approached us and said he already granted us the use of the breakfast room yesterday before official check in, “and now you again want to have free service from me. Either you book now another night in the hotel, or leave”.
Wow… I travel a lot, both for business and for private trips. I have never in my life faced such an unfriendly hotel manager. Even if he does not like us to stay longer than the official room time suggests, there are definitely much more friendly ways of expressing it. Also, if the hotel was fully booked and we would literally take the place of someone else, I would understand such a behavior (but again I would have expected a nicer way).
He gave us the impression of being blood sucking parasites that basically rip him off. Even though the place itself was ok, I will definitely never come back. I am still shocked of such an unfriendly overall team.
