If you are looking for good hotel in the city centre, you have found one. Excellent location near Plaza Cataluna, near La Rambla. Great staff, really felt welcome. Quite big room, especially for Barcelona. Hotel is historic, not luxurious, but this is ok. There are 24/7 free snacks and drinks available, which is superb option

Let me start by saying that this hotel was definitely not what I expected and I’ll explain in details so that anyone that books after reading this knows the reality of things:

- At our arrival at the hotel, the first thing was the elevator broken. Supposed to be fixed the following days but at the end wasn’t fixed for 5 days, at our departure wasn’t fixed still. Causing people to arrive exhausted at the lobby, carrying their luggages for 4 floors. I wonder what an elder person or someone with a physical disability could do in this situation.
- When you enter the hotel, corridors and part of the room smells very unpleasant. The humidity is everywhere and it’s just very displeasing to enter or exit with this smell.
- “The key policy situation”. You have to return/pick up your room key to the lobby every time you exit or enter the hotel. We experience the situation of a gentleman that did not really remembered his room number and was asking for random numbers and they just gave him the key without confirming his name. I believe that if it’s a must to deposit the key at the lobby then a name/ surname or ID check to pick up the key should be done before giving away room keys to possible strangers.
- There is no toothpaste, flip flops or personal use amenities that normally a hotel should provide. Just the sign you can see below, I guess they sell at the lobby.
- The 24h buffet has a very limited selection and is the same for breakfast with some extra items.( picture above). Mind that almost all the food for the buffet is kept cold, so you will have to reheat it in the microwave.
- Being a very old hotel you can hear the water pipes all night long.
Good things about our stay at the hotel;
- location( close by the metro and bus stations)
- Right on the Ramblas
- The toilet of our room was renovated and pleasant.
- The bed is comfortable although I pointed out I was on my honeymoon when booking the room and they gave us 2 separate beds.

Excellent location and buffet 24h available. The hotel is a bit old but good value for the price.

Very helpful & courteous staff. They help us on enhancing the snacks provided & cleaning the tables. They advised on the food. They provided guidance on airbus service, how best to take & details. They provided a table for breakfast with an excellent street view.

Location directly at La Rambla is very good for sightseeing/touristic activities. But this is where the enjoyable part ended for me. It started with a hick up after booking the room for which the staff seemed to have a standard response a la "we can't do anything, sort it out for yourself" (after I was informed by the hotel that they cannot guarantee the booking, without providing much context as to why). Upon arrival at the hotel we were underwhelmed by the cleanliness and the general state of the entry (lose floor tiles, shabby looks giving the impression of maintenance neglect over a decade or so). The interior is what you could call boutique or dated. That is fine and not a critic point, just not my cup of tea. Entering the room, we quickly spotted stains on the sink and the bed covers. After 5 nights staying the room was, presumably, not cleaned once nor the sheets have been changed as the stains pertained (yes, we indicated that the room should be cleaned). There also seemed to be no vacuuming of the floors. Wet shower towels were nicely folded, rather than just changed or left hung up to dry properly. On one day, the personal didn't even do the beds. This is more than disappointing. The reception personal also didn't seem to be too enthusiastic about their jobs and aren't too keen on wearing face masks, although being quick in pointing out to customers to wear masks and using single use gloves at the buffet. The free 24h buffet is a nice idea but I rather have a clean room and something resembling service.

Friendly staff and nice hotel. The location is perfect. Recommend it!

The location of the hotel is great and its free buffet is very handy. But that's where it ends. The staff are unmotivated, bordering rude. There is an obligatory face mask policy throughout the building due to the Covid situation, however staff (in particular reception) doesn't bother to put on their mask unless they spot you approaching. One of the staff didn't even manage to do that and just hold her mask with her hands on her face. Cleaning at the hotel seems to be optional. On the day of our arrival there were two prominent stains on the sink which are still there more than a week later. The bed sheets also had what I suspect was mascara stains and were not changed throughout our stay. Despite having put a sign asking for the cleaning of our room early one morning, the room was not cleaned when we got back late at night. The towels were not changed throughout our stay and the staff had just folded our wet towels as part of their room cleaning, not allowing them to even dry properly.

A charm hotel where you'd love to stay within...
Located into the heart of Barcelona, hotel Continental is a hidden treasure. No matter what you intend to do or visit - it's minutes away, by walk. Very nice & friendly staff, well equipped rooms, which are perfectly cleaned up on daily basis. The 24x7 cafeteria is free and offers any time a good coffee selection, water, beer, sodas, ice and ice creams, to help you refresh after the long day or just drink a glass of wine at the balcony, watching the La Rambla life. Definitely a best value for money into this part of the city...
