Axel TWO Barcelona Hotel - Adults Only in Barcelona

Unfortunately my trip to Barcelona ended in a big disappointment. When I arrived I got the flu so I slept in my room for two days. The Cityrooms are located on the ground floor and are connected to a square behind the hotel. This square is used by homeless people who like to smoke at the windows of the rooms and make a lot of noise. The bathroom is not easy to use. Because there is no glass at the open shower the bathroom becomes a swimming pool while showering. During the night I slipped because I did not have the energy and enough towels to dry the floor because of the flu. The shower leaks at the mixer tap and sprays in all directions. After two days I finally had the energy to make it known that I was not satisfied with the room. And now that I am better I would like a better room even for an additional fee this was not possible. They immediately sent a technician to the room and he indicated that the leaking of the mixer tap was caused by opening the shower head. With this he assumed that I had used the shower head to rinse my ass. When I indicated that this was not the case. He still put all his energy into the shower head. When he indicated that he could not find the problem, I turned on the shower tap and he saw the water spraying out of the mixer tap. Only then was I finally taken seriously and helped correctly. I have stayed at several Axels but this stay is not worthy of the Axel Predicate. It is a hetero-friendly hotel but the technical staff are prejudiced and think that all gays with a problem with the shower most likely use the shower head to rinse their ass. I am still in the hotel until Sunday but I am seriously considering staying at another hotel for the last two nights. Room nr is 11

Update On the last day we got another room. This room is 202 which is safer and has a closed shower cabin. The hotel apologized for the incident with the mixer tap and the mechanic. We were offered a free breakfast on the day of departure. These are nice gestures I hope the hotel addresses the shortcoming in the shower of room 11 for future guests. That is why I am giving the hotel a different rating.

Stayed at AxelTWO during a trip to Barcelona with my partner.

The room was comfortable and cleaned well each day and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I was however, disappointed with the atmosphere during our stay.

We were hoping for a social stay and to meet fellow travellers however, the rooftop bar was closed our entire stay. While the lobby bar was open it doesn’t have much atmosphere and is not really set up for a social drink.

We still enjoyed our stay however I would not stay again during the winter months. Could be more fun during summer.

Reasonable in January, but almost everything is very positive, except for the smiles from the cleaning staff. Although their execution was not up to par.
I stayed for 6 nights and passed the reception at least 25 times.
Only 4, - maybe 5 times did people behind the desk bother to say hello.
The rooms are well designed, unfortunately with poor quality materials.
It is clearly visible now after 9 years.
Nice location between the port and Gracia. About 35 min. walk each way.
Have visited BCN between 30 and 40 times in the last 25 years and Axel Two scores medium, maybe a little below for a 4 star hotel unfortunately.

Missed of emotions…

My boyfriend and I have been in this hotel about 5 or 6 times. As hotel is lovely. Great location, good rooms, nice rooftop with a pool etc.

The big downside is the admin
While you see that you will be charge 2 days prior arrival they preauthorise your card whenever they feel like it without prior notice. Which cause issues as you are not expecting this on a random day.
They are too worried about scams at their side but not at yours…
This time we were welcome buy a girl receptionist with long hair who looked new and didn’t have too much knowledge so we were a bit surprised.
Another thing I did not understand as only happens in this hotel is that my Spanish passport wasn’t accepted! So bizarre… and had to provide my Spanish ID.

I have to say that all this trouble only happens in this hotel as we have been in other Axel and never had such issues.

Also, another downside I see but could be just my perception is that the majority of the guest are now straight couples so it lost a bit the LGBTQ vibe that used to have , but this is just my opinion.

Overall it’s a nice hotel, however I don’t think I would visit again. I will use the Axel company but most likely no this one in Barcelona again.
