Hotel California Garden

Positive: the beach was fantastic, long promenade with an incredible amount to see and experience. The pool was ok size and clean. The cleaners were friendly and good. Negative: the staff were very unprofessional and at times rude, the rooms were ok but there was zero insulation so you could hear everything going on in the neighboring rooms and in the hallway. The food was a disastrous experience, tasteless food (if you can call it food) very poor taste and poor menu. There was chaos in the buffet with people running around and behaving as if they were the only ones in the buffet. The old Spanish ladies were the worst and had little manners. Transport from the airport to the hotel was a big problem, and taxi cost 250 Euro, from pre-booking from Tui the prices started from 6500kr. It takes about 1.5 hours. Otherwise Salou was a very nice place for big and small, stiff prices.

The location of the hotel was one of the best things about the hotel. When arriving we where greeted with staff who couldn’t talk much english. However when given the room key we was allocated with room 502 which for a 3 star hotel was quite spacious with a good size balcony and facing the pool. However, there was a lot of problems with the hotel. DONT GO TO THIS HOTEL IF YOU WANT NICE FOOD. the food was atrocious! The first time we had tea at 19:30-22:00 they where serving raw food. Had the pork and some fish. The fish had bones in and the pork was raw and pink inside it was honestly disgusting. After this we decided to eat out. The breakfast with ok the only good thing about it was the scrambled eggs. Some good places where we ate was: Robin Hood, lazy wave, dubliner,roadhouse. Another problem was the pool. Apart from the size of the pool there was loads of school kids running around and splashing everyone to the point where we hadto tell them off because the lifeguard wasn’t doing anything about it. If you can’t sleep with background noise don’t stay here, once you close the doors to the balcony the air conditioning comes and does make quite a noise. But when you open the door all you here is thumping from the nightclub across the road so in my opinion you can’t win. Apart from this, it was quite clean but had to pay 35 euros for the safe and our room didn’t have a fridge.

This hotel started bad and just got worse throughout our stay. Check-in was a jilted process, the reception staff cool and unwelcoming at best. We asked about a safe, and were told it was 35 euros for the stay, and we would get 10 back at the end. Another room in our party asked about the safe and told it was 45..... Up to the rooms, which were ready on arrival and they are basic to say the least the bed linen isnt particularly clean, the towels are like tracing paper and we had to ask for the floors to be cleaned. The housekeeping staff were however the friendliest staff in the hotel, ( admittedly though, this is a very low bar). There was no fridge in the room. We asked for one for medication purposes and we are still waiitng, having now been back in england a week. One positive, the shower is lovely and powerful. Food in the hotel is simply awful and the restaurant itself is pure pandemonium. We were a party of six and were never offered assistance finding or moving tables together. Outside of breakfast, there isn't even water on offer. I appreciate that we were only half board, but water should surely be available during meal times. For some reason they had certain areas of the restaurant cordoned off which made finding a table more difficult. The food was cold, bland and most often so low you couldn't get a decent meal out of it if you wanted to. This is in no small part tho the mobs of school children groups. These children are completely unchapperoned near all of the time. They swarm the buffet, picking up and putting back food with their hands. We asked hotel staff multiple times to replenish and they refused. Over all we had two breakfasts, one lunch and one dinner in the hotel the whole time we stayed. The main issue however was the schoool/sports youth groups. Around the pool they were damned rude at best. We came back from lunch and found them sitting on our towels on our sunloungers!!!! The hotel staff were asking british families to move out of the pool so they could accommodate giant inflatables in the pool. Throwing sunloungers out the way in our direction almost hitting my mother in law. We raised this with reception and were lied to. Told there were no groups in the hotel and that these were kids club kids. There must have been no less than 80 children with boob boxes screaming and throwing each other in at some point. I appreciate this is not an adults only hotel but there was absolutely no respect for other hotel users from these guests or the staff supporting them. At a night time, again thse groups were left to their own devices, slamming doors and dragging tables into the hallways to turn them into makeshift common rooms. On a nightly basis, we could be out to them asking for some quiet at 2am and after. Again, receptions attitude fell nothing short of blase at best. I honestly could not pick out one reason why I would ever return to California Garden, from start to finish it was quite the ordeal made worse by rude,
