Reviews
We check in, all is going well, we are shown to two rooms by a young gent who has a rather odd manner, no problem really but one thing really struck me when he showed us our room. We entered the lift and he walked in too, facing us and standing in the doorway with his elbows out, blocking the doorway. Very odd we all thought. We find out later why…
We go to our two rooms, mine and my wife’s room is fine, my children’s we walked in to a single bed rather than the two requested and the most awful drains smell, with a smell of faeces and an incredibly strong smell of some kind of perfume, clearly to mask the obnoxious smell in the room. My teenage boys joke and say it stinks in their room and the beds are wrong. The chap listens and goes off to resolve the beds, although we don’t realise he is ignoring the comment about the smell.
I then meet this same chap again in the lobby, only this time he is showing new guests to their room. He enters the lift just like with us, again stands in the way of the lift opening with his elbows out and presses the close door button immediately as entering, despite being aware of my presence also waiting for the lift. Now I get the aggressive stance, you are irrelevant to him now, his charm is short lived.. his back is blocking me getting in the lift and I am unwelcome inconvenience and cannot enter the lift.
I meet a third time and discuss how full the hotel is and am told the hotel has no rooms free as just 30 rooms are open, my boys will have to put up with the smell.
So, they joke about it constantly, it’s horrendous in their room and they sleep with the door wide open. We presume we have an issue in just this one room.
Imagine when you come to check out and you meet the aggressive young lady on reception asking if everything was ok…. I explain about the boys room and how bad it’s been for them…
I am told all of the following; within moments…
1 there is a problem in the column of the building and all rooms associated have the same issue. They worked on it the day before.
2 we only knew about it when you told us (to which we replied, what about point 1)
3 we always use that perfume, that’s normal. To which we replied we had the room 2 doors away with no smell.
4 we were all told that we hadn’t told the chap on reception of the issue… again not correlating to any of the points already made.
We end up so angry with the aggressive young lady and her lies and denials that it’s causing quite a stir. It goes on for many minutes, all of my family pointing out the repeated backtracking and lies pouring from the young lady, her horrendous behaviour frustrating us all incredibly. A colleague comes over standing behind her, again stories from the front of house change, much of what’s said is denied and we are left incredibly frustrated.
We end up walking out feeling that bad attitude, aggression and downright dishonesty are inbred in this establishment, the lack of empathy and almost distain and disrespect for the paying customer is obvious.
Now I read the reviews and know the experience we had is how you can expect to be dealt with. You are irrelevant to them, yes they will now reply with some AI BS and some downright rude comments towards us, but question who does this to a paying customer? Do you want to receive this service?
My boys had no choice but to stay in a room that smelt like a sewage treatment plant and we get told nothing they can do, not really their problem, they tried… no apology, no compensation… nothing other than coming away feeling like we have been robbed, thankfully only metaphorically as many others seem to have been actually robbed reading other reviews.
Stay away, if it goes wrong you will be treated like dirt.
Average food with nothing special
Breakfast very « light « , capacity issues
For dinner a very limited menu, dry bread, mixing and delaying orders
Try to eat outside if possible
To provide some context,i made a reservation for a specific room type, but upon arrival, I was shocked to discover that I had been given a downgraded room that did not meet my expectations or the specifications of my booking.
This immediately made me question the hotel's commitment to customer satisfaction and overall quality.
Moreover, the unprofessional behavior displayed by the hotel staff further exacerbated my disappointment. Their attitude towards guests was dismissive and discourteous. Despite raising my concerns with the front desk, there was a clear lack of empathy and willingness to address the issue. The staff's unprofessionalism was evident in their dismissive responses and failure to offer any viable solutions.
The impact of this poor service on my overall experience cannot be overstated. I felt an immense sense of inconvenience, discomfort, and disappointment throughout my stay. The downgraded room not only failed to meet my expectations but also hindered my ability to enjoy my time at the hotel.
It is disheartening to note that the hotel did not demonstrate any initiative to rectify the situation or offer a suitable resolution. As a guest, I expected a prompt and appropriate response to my concerns, but it was clear that the hotel was not committed to addressing the issue or ensuring guest satisfaction.
I would like to express my disappointment with the hotel's handling of this matter. It is my sincere hope that they take this feedback constructively and make the necessary improvements to avoid similar incidents in the future. Guests deserve a professional and attentive experience, especially when they have made reservations based on specific room types.
In light of my experience, I cannot recommend ecrin to fellow travelers who value quality service and professionalism. It is my sincere hope that this review serves as a cautionary tale and prompts the hotel management to take corrective measures.
I sincerely hope that my feedback helps both the hotel and potential guests in making informed decisions.
The service was excellent.
The lighting was in our opinion too strong. We would have preferred it to be softer for an evening meal.
1. Courchevel is extremely expensive. As such, during peak season you're going to be paying 5-star prices for a 4-star hotel. I suspect some reviewers have given Ecrin Blanc some mediocre reviews because they paid 5-star rates, but this hotel is marketed as 4-stars and, as it is a 4-star hotel, we felt it performed very very well for 4-stars.
2. When traveling with kids, ski-in/ski-out is a huge positive, and Ecrin Blanc couldn't be more well-situated in that regard, with a chair lift right outside the ski room.
3. Other than the ski-in/ski-out, the location was a bit disappointing, as it wasn't located in a village (in between 1550 and the more lively 1650). For those looking for the fancy Courchevel, that's 1850 and is 15-mins drive further, although 1850 can very easily be accessed from the slopes. We would have appreciated a hotel shuttle to take us to 1550, 1650 and 1850 for dinners - hopefully the hotel will add one in the future. Otherwise, we walked (15 min) and got some fresh air and exercise to offset our calorie-rich raclette! (It's also easy to take a taxi or to drive & park).
4. The location, however, also lent itself well to Aquamotion, which was a fantastic option for the family after a day of skiing. To be able to walk door-to-door underground was a huge plus. Aquamotion is much more fun than the website shows - warm water and lots of slides. Great for kids, but less so for adults, in my opinion.
5. We were disappointed that the hotel has so many other amenities but doesn't have an onsite outdoor hot tub. Aquamotion isn't exactly the place to go for a quiet apres-ski dip in a hot jacuzzi under stars and snow, both because it's noisy, crowded and indoors and because the water is only warm, not hot. (Kids also aren't allowed to use jacuzzi, sauna, hammam at Aquamotion).
6. The Kids Club was GREAT, with diverse activities to keep the kids entertained (arts/crafts, video games, puzzles, mini foot / foosball, ping pong).
7. Breakfast was decent but hard for staff to keep the buffet fully stocked during a busy week, despite there seeming to be a lot of staff running around. As such, there was a bit of chaos, lots of asking for replenishments or making the same requests multiple times. I've got to think it was just because we were there during a really busy week, and I appreciated the effort the staff made and their friendly demeanor during the stressful morning rush.
8. Room and decor - good quality. Not 5-star luxe, but still trendy and well done and comfortable. Appreciated the fact that housekeeping cleaned our room at our request late in the day when we took the dog for a walk.
Overall, for 4-stars, I think the hotel did very well, especially for families. Yes, it is expensive, but it's Courchevel and if you want 5 stars, you'll pay a lot more and you won't get all the kid-friendly features either.
My only complain would be for the restaurant where the staff can sometimes be overloaded, and we sometimes had to wait a little while at the entrance for someone to find a seat for us (and manager pretending not to see us) or give us the card.
