Hotel Mathios Village in Akrotiri

Beautiful hotel. Very very clean. Nice comfortable rooms. The owner Kostas Papalexis was so warm, friendly and a lot of fun. Very knowledgeable. His Mama cooked a wonderful feast for us. He planed a dinner for us in Athens that was incredible. We are a large group of women. We were treated like queens. We eat amazing Greek food, sang and danced. Great entertainment. He arranged a tour for us in Santorini. So fun. We were all over the island. We did everything. Thank you Kostas and sweet Mama

On checking in at the hotel Mathios, I was informed I had been upgraded to a superior room, which immensely pleased me. I found my room to be a decent size. It was clean and the bathroom and shower were pleasing on the eye. I found the staff to be very pleasant, helpful and courteous. The hotel was a short walk to the centre of Akroteri where there were a number of restaurants and tavernas. Kostas, the owner and manager of the hotel, was quite a character who was keen to advise and provide help in places to visit and activities to undertake. I was very satisfied with the comfort and quality of my room and the frequency of cleaning of the room. A good sized pool was the centrepiece of the hotel. I didn't hire a car, but tended to walk locally to the village and jog to the sea, a 15 minute run. There are few pavements and so special precautions were needed for walking. A continental breakfast was provided by the hotel which I found satisfactory . The village provided a variety of Greek tavernas for lunch and dinner, as well as the hotel itself. I particularly enjoyed the wines, especially white wines. The trips provided by Kostas were all excellent. He was particularly keen to identify what your requirements were so that he could suggest most relevant trips. He excelled at this, and he was so keen for you to have a good time. As I am keen on wine, he provided trips to a few wineries for wine tasting, and a most interesting visit to a wine museum. An island cruise on a catamaran was a highlight, to include a spectacular sunset.

We have just had a wonderful week staying at this beautiful hotel. We stayed in room 38, which is one of the traditional suites on 2 levels, it was perfect - very modern bathroom, very comfortable bed and lovely balcony overlooking the pool. The owner, Konstantinos, was there to welcome us when we arrived. He is so enthusiastic about the island and gave us lots of ideas of places to visit. The breakfast was great and the restaurant food was delicious. The whole complex was spotlessly clean, the staff were all so friendly and worked really well as a team. The pool area was very pretty with plenty of sunbeds and parasols. Konstantinos organised car hire for 3 days and we drove to Fira, Oia, Megalochori, Pirgos, Perivolos beach as well as down to the lighthouse at Akrotiri to see the sunset. The island is so compact that the furthest we drove was only 40 minutes. Akrotiri is very pretty, it’s a small town with a few restaurants - we ate in a different one each night. Would recommend the hotel restaurant and also going up to the cafe in the castle to watch the sunset and eat delicious tapas style food. Thank you Mathios Village - we will be back!

An immaculately clean, relaxing and family run hotel in a beautiful rural location. Lovely quiet pool. They have very friendly, kind and engaging staff solving any issues you may have. Kostas the owner is welcoming, full of energy, and insightful travel advice.

Wonderful stay ! It was the second time in this beautiful hotel. The staff is amazing. The village is far from the crowded areas which is great. There are many excursions possible to the volcano, the beach or the different towns.

Stayed at this beautiful hotel for a week, wow!! Spotlessly clean every detail attended to. The staff are all friendly and can’t do enough for you, such a family feel to the place. Was quiet and calm, food was delicious. Mr Kostas the manager really made us feel so welcome, with his help we hired a car and saw the best of the island, his advice is excellent. Akrotiri is the quieter end of Santorini, Mathios Village is in a great location, only dropped 1 star as it is on a busy road, however once by the pool and in the rooms you cannot hear it and in the early morning and evenings it is generally quiet. The staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble, we stayed in a traditional split level suite that was poolside, there was shaded outdoor space, room to dry wet things and A/C. Being a 5 minute walk to the main village meant we had the breakfast buffet each day and ate out some nights (although the food in the hotel was as good as any we found in the village). Everywhere has the standard options from salads, meat and fish dishes to pizza, pasta and burgers. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk to Caldera beach, which although has no sun loungers or taverna is what we wanted as it’s much quieter and has good snorkelling from the beach (be prepared for a 15 minute walk back though). There are plenty of buses and bus stops nearby to visit the islands highlights, we hired a car which made life easier as we could get to Fira, Oia, Ancient Thera, Pyrgos etc in the mornings before the cruise ship visitors arrived. The manager and staff couldn’t help enough and gave us lots of useful advice. The room was cleaned daily, fresh towels etc. Additionally a 5 minute drive towards the lighthouse gives the best sunsets without the Oia crowds!

Just got back yesterday from a holiday in Santorini. It was a wonderful experience made better by the time we spent at Mathios. All of the staff are incredibly friendly and extremely helpful. The cleanliness is very impressive and the food in the restaurant is delicious. Would also like to give a special thank you to Kostos the hotel owner. His suggestions were excellent and improved our trip, and he himself is a brilliant character who brightened our day each time we spoke to him. He even put on a Greek dancing night whilst we were there just for the fun! I recommend Mathios to anyone :))) Also worth noting that we have realised we could’ve booked directly through the hotel and this would be a better option than booking through a package holiday company as Kostos is fantastic at arranging everything you may need!

The Village is BEAUTIFUL, clean and Kostas is the ultimate host. Loved the food, dancing, the bar. Rooms are clean and beautiful. Let Kostas take care of you, even in Athens and Paros. I feel we met a friend forever....would love to return!!!!

We had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Mathios for a week in April. The staff is amazing; so welcoming and caring. They took care of all our needs and had great advice of where to go and what to do during our stay. The food at the hotel restaurant was delicious and of course the drinks as well!! They definitely show love with food and drinks with a generous pour!
