METIS URBANE LIVING SPACES in Athens

Whilst the location is very central, this 'hotel' is definitely NOT a place you'd want to stay more than one night. Here's why: it's not a hotel - it's a few rooms put together in an old building on top of a coffee shop only offering breakfast (no restautrant on site). The rooms are TINY and you cannot help but wonder why there is no light in your room : the window was covered with a grey privacy film to stop other guests looking into your room from the corridor. We booked that place for 2 weeks (big mistake - they offered us a larger room at a higher price but we would have had to move 3 times!!! so we decided against it) and were allocated the smallest room, right next to the lift, with an obscure window! The safe didn't work, they also told us we couldn't have two keys, only one key per room (!?), the lock on our door didn't work properly, each time we had to triple check the door was closed securely before leaving our room. No storage, no drawers, no hooks (apart from one in the shower) - not even a rail by the sink to hold your towel, nor a hook by the entrance to suspend your jacket. The whole room design is very amateur, just like the few people we had to interact with on reception to express our concerns. We had to be creative to store our personal belongings on top of the TV unit etc. but discovered they were covered in dust that we had to clean ourselves as no one came to clean it after we informed reception of the issue twice. Most nights there was loud music (up to 2am) coming into our room from a nearby bar, which means we couldn't fall asleep until very late. The fire alarm also went off one night just outside our room but we got told there was nothing they could do about it even though they knew about the issue, same for the music. 'Not our building, not our problem' was the answer, great! This is a serious fire safety breach, most hotels would have had to evacuate by then, what a joke. The breakfast is very limited and served in very small quantities. The breakfast lady doesn't acknowledge when one of the few items available is out (usually eggs and tomatoes), and it takes forever to get the buffet refreshed. Some mornings there were no cups, no plates available and both the breakfast lady and reception are sat on their phones ignoring customers... also, they have Costa Coffee branding allover the shop, but the coffee served at breakfast is filter coffee, lukewarm and quite frankly disgusting. All in all, we paid a fortune for mediocre accommodation. We would have loved to move to another property but it was holiday season (most of Athens was full) and we also had other colleagues staying in that place and experiencing the same difficulties - so we couldn't move. We tried to laugh about how bad we had it this time - we to travel for 2 weeks at a time every other month allover the world for work and the welcome we get is always on the other end of the spectrum, starting with room allocation and warm hospitality - the team h

We got a room on the first floor with no room to put our luggage. The window opened onto a wall with pipes and no ventilation. Since the tour company booked it, I think I booked the cheapest one. The bed and pillow were uncomfortable. The staff doesn't speak Spanish. The bathroom was comfortable, and the breakfast was simple. Excellent location, I definitely wouldn't recommend it. Athens is full of hotels, and they're good.
