Athenaeum Intercontinental, an IHG Hotel, Athens1 / 26

Athens, 89-93 Syngrou Avenue 🧭 Map
Such a beautiful hotel. If youre on the top floors with a suite, you get an AMAZING large LARGE balcony with a view of the Acropolis. Also some of the most friendly warm and extremely beautiful/attractive staff/guests as well. This place is high class indeed and welcomes travelers from all over. Its close to the city center as well with lots to see and do around the area.
This well-known hotel features modern rooms with a well-stocked minibar—definitely a pleasant surprise compared to the empty minibar at the Intercontinental Vienna. If your budget allows, I highly recommend choosing a room with a view of the Acropolis; the sight of this ancient landmark in the distance is truly breathtaking. However, be aware that your view might be slightly obstructed by some odd...
I’m an IHG loyalist. I can tell you the difference between the breakfast buffet at the Intercontinental hotels in Rome and Athens (sheeps milk yogurt vs honey in the comb) and quality is a hallmark of the experience. It’s a luxury hotel. That’s what you are paying for. The locations, the ambiance, and the service. Generally, everything is as close to perfect as one can get. We checked in last night...
Had a great stay at this hotel while visiting Athens, the location is ideal for exploring the city center and Acropolis using the nearby trams, buses, or metro. Staff were courteous and extremely helpful. They always went out of their way to be friendly and welcoming. Although the immediate surroundings look a bit dire the view from the rooftop restaurant and bar was absolutely stunning and more than...
My wife and I just stayed here for two nights. This is a fantastic Hotel with outstanding service. It was located perfectly for us and what we wanted to see. Today was our last day there. We left our bags with the doorman, as we were going to an island for the day and were going to return in the afternoon to collect our bags as we were heading to the airport this afternoon. When the taxi dropped us...
Stayed at this InterContinental in Athens and enjoyed it a lot. Great location, luxurious all around, and with decent amenities. The rooms were nice and large, well-maintained, and cozy to return to after spending time in Athens! Also a great location within Athens; close taxi ride to all the icons in the city. However, when we were checking in, one of the front desk ladies wasn’t all too understanding...

The hotel staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming, especially this lovely lady Miss Xenia who helped me split my day tour into two days according to my flight schedule. She even allowed me to check out later, so I didn't have to rush for the flight. I could come back, take a nice shower, rest, and pack. The breakfast and room service food were delicious, and the rooftop pool offered an amazing...
We arrived after our early morning flight and the bellman were very polite and took our baggage straight to storage but the front desk was quite rude to us about how early we arrived - I didn’t ask to check in and didn’t expect to, so there was no need to be rude. We only had 1 day in Athens so being well located to the main sites was important. This hotel was walkable to everything including the...
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Divani Caravel hotel during a business trip, and I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the exceptional service I received. I would like to extend a special thank you to your concierge, Xenia, who was incredibly helpful with every question and request. Her professionalism and attentiveness truly enhanced my stay. Additionally, I want to give...
Rooms were good n clean. Rooftop garden was nice but pool was very busy. Breakfast was great but Restaurant service / room service was horrible. We requested for 4 plates and 4 spoons - they asked for 12 euros per person plus additional 15 euros for Room delivery charges for just empty utensils. They were kind enough to give us plastic plates if we come down to get it. Next day, we asked for two plastic...
Excellent experience! Flight cancelled and sent to Devini Caravel. Gorgeous reception and beautiful room. Greek people so friendly and kind. Took very well care for us. Perfect setting in safe area. View from the pool of Acropolis and St George church. Food and service plentiful and diverse. Would come back to this hotel over and over.
We stayed at this Divani Caravel Athens in the last week of July and I must admit our experience was simply overwhelming and beyond expectations. The hotel room was exceptional , pool was great and overall location was very central to main centre square in Athens. I have led multiple groups overseas. This is a fantastic hotel. Centrally located. Excellent food rooms are clean and very comfortable. The rooftop restaurant and bar has an unbelievable view of the Acropolis. Highly recommend.
Even though the hotel is an older one, service was excellent - the staff was very attentive and friendly. Breakfast and coffee were excellent and the rooftop view was a fabulous one. The elevators are busy in the morning as can be the breakfast bar at around 8 so get to there early!
The hotel location was awesome. The view from.the top floor restaurant was amazing. The breakfast was expansive and delicious. The front entrance is elegant but our room was run down. We had a window that was covered so really did not see daylight until we ventured out. Bed was horrible and shower was challenging.
Reasonably good hotel overall despite some old outlooks and slowness — your elevator in the peak morning hours can easily take 5 minutes to come. The staffs are helpful and friendly and the breakfast area is simply fantastic. The location is pretty awesome. It would’ve been lovely if the room keeping service included the water refill, especially when we stayed for four consecutive nights.
Needs Customer Service Training! The restaurant Maître d' in the evening is abrasive and curt. I had drinks at the bar during the day and enjoyed the rooftop patio views but when I returned later that evening to get some nighttime photos, I was informed that I was not able to access the patio unless I purchased food or drink despite being a paying hotel guest. Overall, the hotel is mediocre and nothing...
This hotel has implemented a new policy where paying hotel guests are not allowed to access the rooftop patio unless they are consuming food from the restaurant or bar. We were told that it is upsetting to those dining at the restaurant for non-diners to enjoy the rooftop. After requesting to speak to management, it was explained that this is their new policy. Additionally, half the rooftop is roped...
The breakfast was very good and plentiful with lot of choices for kind of guests. The Food was fresh and tasty. The Front desk were very good and polite and attentive with all the guests. The house keeping was very good and had all the clean bedsheets and towels and all amenities were in plentiful. The room was cleaned everyday.

Apart from the great location and accessibility to the tourist attractions, the service at this hotel was impeccable. Overall a pleasant experience. Fantastic rooftop bar and restaurant with great food and stunning views of the acropolis. The service staff were all very friendly and d helpful. The breakfast buffet leaves a bit of room for improvement. The rooms are clean and have a comfy bed and seem to be well soundproofed as I did not hear my neighbors which is often a nuisance in some other hotels. Would stay there...
From reading some of these reviews a week before I arrived I thought I was going to be staying in the worst hotel on earth, the reality was very much the opposite. The reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the breakfast buffet was also very...
The amenity space on the rooftop is the best feature of this hotel. The pool area is really large and very nice. It's very busy so it's not easy getting a spot to sit but it's worth the effort. The free breakfast on the rooftop is also very good. Very good selection of food and the views are amazing. The rooms themselves are dated and the bathrooms are so extremely small. One would expect a more luxury...
We stayed here for 1 night, the rooftop was the best part! Panoramic views of Athens and the Acropolis. Service was very slow, we ate on the rooftop for lunch and it took over an hour and a half to get our food. However, it was all spectacular in taste. The rooms are subpar. Friendly staff at the front desk recommended a great rental car company that brought the car to the hotel.

One of the best Hiltons I’ve stayed at. The staff was friendly and helpful. As a diamond member we were upgraded to an acropolis view. They provided complimentary bottled water throughout our stay. The breakfast was amazing in the hotel restaurant and the drinks and view from the Galaxy bar are worth a visit. A great value for Award nights. I’d recommend anyone coming to Athens stay at this hotel.
Hotel is pretty large and grand, with a huge reception area. Some parts are a little dated but most looks clean and well looked after. Staff are friendly and attentive and you feel well looked after. It's not the cheapest place but the higher prices are justified
A fantastic hotel with the best views. The food in the rooftop restaurant was absolutely devine and the breakfasts were cooked to perfection. In the room itself, everything was easy to use and the pillows were the most comfortable I've ever had. I would definitely recommend and look forward to being able to return.
Really really great experience, from check-in to departure. Felt extremely valued as a Diamond member - front desk staff upgraded our room without even asking. Front desk staff was polite and professional and gracious. Room was fantastic - get the Acropolis view!!! Several restaurants behind the hotel within a 5 min walk. my husband and I stayed at this hotel during our first trip to Greece and we had a very enjoyable stay! situated in a safe area between two metro stations, it was very convenient for getting around, although I quickly wished we'd stayed closer to Monastiraki Square as that's where we spent the most time. that said, this hotel was nice, if not a bit outdated. the breakfast was delicious and the rooftop...

Stayed one night prior to transfer to the cruise ship. Air France misplaced luggage so we got into the hotel later than anticipated. For the little while we stayed there the hotel was great. The processed a lot of people in and out to the ships. Had dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant and was very good. Rooms were comfortable.
Great quality hotel! So far it’s been a great experience. We flew in with a group of about 70 people for a tour with discovery tours. We showed up at the hotel, 10 minutes later, we were all checked in and in our rooms. Excellent service. Nice, clean, and neat rooms. The buffet and other accommodation have been wonderful!
This review is specifically for the Great Room bar (the entire experience has been great but I want to focus on this bar for this review). My wife and I are on our Anniversary trip and had the pleasure of staying at the Athens Marriott Sunday September 1st. Hotel that various cruise ships use. Mid Athens location. Lido grocery store a 9 minute walk - bread, cheese, wine. Four nearby restaurants. Hotel has a good breakfast buffet. About an hour drive to airport - taxi $50 or 50 erous. Small pool on roof and bar with scenic views.
Don’t be put off by location. This is a great place to stay and with a 10 mins bus ride you will be in town. Also the hop on hop off bus stops outside the hotel for a convenient tour. We have spent 4 days here and never felt the need after 8 hours of Hellenic heat to go out in the evening as there are nice local restaurant too. Ok hotel. Super busy with cruise ships. Staff were good. Pool on roof is small but fine. The M club stunk. The happy hour food was lame and never refilled. Cabs to center 10 euros. There is a great park across the street. I'm the summer they have music and movies in the park.

Not a 5 stars resort experience when compared to recent units on the Athens Riviera and…In urgent need of overall renovation, since the early 2000´s. F/B performance, breakfast buffet setting and quality « locked » on the stingy eighties standards: out of the hot buffet servings there us extra charge for eggs, 15€ for room service charge etc…
Our flights were cancelled so Aegean Air sent us to this hotel. While checking in, they handled bus loads of people with ease. They were polite, helpful, and caring. Excellent hotel with probably the most friendly staff I've ever experienced. The hotel has a really nice roof top bar with the best views on the Acropolis and is super centrally located. I found it exceptional value for money.
Our family had an exceptional experience here, thanks to the impeccable service and perfect location. Traveling with a young child can be challenging, staff made everything easy and enjoyable for us. Here’s an asset to your hotel. Thermis at the desk, an extraordinary ambassador! Welcoming and helpful to an all of us traveling from Hawaii! Dinning waitstaff is superb!
We recently stayed here and loved the location and enjoyed the pool. The room was clean and comfortable and a clear priority. The cleaning and support staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. The only issue was the attitude and demeanor of many of the staff members; a few front desk staffers, the breakfast servers, and bar tenders. They were short and unfriendly. Natasha in the reception area is an angel. I don’t think the hotel could afford to give everyone the service she gave us so I won’t mention specifically what it was. But we appreciated it and she made it clear that there is a culture of true hospitality at this hotel. The room was absolutely gorgeous! Imagine a private terrace with a hot tub with the Parthenon right over us. It was amazing.

The location is very convenient, as it's right next to the airport, so you can easily walk there without needing a car. The staff was friendly. But if you are hotel guest car parking is free. The breakfast had a good selection of items from bacon, sausage, eggs, fruit and pastries. The only comment on the breakfast would be the coffee and cappuccinos didn't taste great. Overall a nice hotel if you're visiting Athens!
The rooms are large! Rooms are clean! The staff is very accommodating. We enjoyed a breakfast buffet. There is a bar open in the evening on the mezzanine level. There is a restaurant in the lobby. Be aware that this hotel does not have a pool. This hotel was picked as part of our tour. Overall this hotel is a good choice.
Probably the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed at. The bedroom doors are very thin and you can hear housekeepings every move knock and bang, even the noise of plastic bags rustling. I’m sure another room or floor may have been different but even 6 floors up no peace! I leave my room impeccable and do not use all the towels and clutter available, so how about some mutual respect in the morning, smashing...
We actually checked in on the day after we were supposed to. My travel agents fault. No problem, they moved the day of check in and off we went. Took all of 5 minutes to correct and we were given a beautiful room with a view of the Acropolis. Rarely will you stay at such a clean, friendly and generous place. And even the bed was incredible. Would definitely stay again. Thank you.
I didn't stay at this hotel but it seems very nice. I had a dinner on the roof patio which was outstanding. Beautiful views and nice atmosphere. Great service.

Athens, 1 Vasileos Georgiou A’ str. 🧭 Map
Premises and location were excellent. Room was spacious and immaculate, as you would expect. The thing which was disconcerting, however, was that staff morale seemed very low throughout our stay. It was pretty cold and awkward both in the lobby and at breakfast and markedly different from other hotels of a similar standing. This is a very prestigious and well-known institution in Athens but the lived...
It can’t get any better than this. The view alone is worth staying here. Add to that elegant rooms and common areas, attentive staff and delicious food and you have the perfect mix. It is close to everything. Rooms are immaculate. The gym is small but, from what I can see, the hotel doesn’t target that clientele so it’s ok .. I would definitely recommend and come back here!
Everything is extraordinary about this historic hotel in the heart of Athens, near Syntagma Square, just opposite the Greek Parliament. Even if you don’t (choose to) stay there, you should visit the Spa, which offers wonderful treatments in a calm, cosy, yet luxurious atmosphere. A brunch or an afternoon tea at the Winter Lounge complete the pleasurable experience. And of course there is the Roof Garden...
Old world elegance with modern luxury service. The guest rooms have maintained their old school appointments, but the upstairs lounge and bar are very much updated with modern decor. The rooftop bar/restaurant is definitely the highlight, although evening cocktails are 24 euro, so you're paying for the view and ambiance. The breakfast is 5 star in every way; we booked a rate that included breakfast...
The grande dame of Athens hotels! Great service, some rooms are a little dated but the views are incredible. Located next to the Syntagma metro station, getting anywhere in Athens is very easy. Pro tip: you can watch the changing of the guard from the rooftop restaurant.
A grand hotel centrally located - but it’s certainly dated The service was impeccable throughout - the breakfast was vast and well stocked The dinner at the rooftop restaurant was very well paced and the food of high quality The stand out is the ambassador bar on the 1st floor which has won many awards The cocktails are to die for and a great way to kick off the night! It is expensive however so be...

Loved this hotel. Very convenient for walks to the city centre and historical sites in Athens. The sky lounge is very popular for an afternoon swim and sun. It becomes magical at night for a romantic dinner with a view of the Acropolis.
I was very comfortable staying here, all staff were friendly and greeted me with a warm smile. I would highly recommend. Beautiful view of The Acropolis from the roof restaurant and bar!!
I would have given this hotel 5 stars if it were not for the welcome we received upon our arrival. Our overseas flight landed at 8 am and we were at this hotel by 10. We could not get a room until 2 pm! This was after a long day of traveling. After speaking with other hotel guests, this seems to be a persistent problem. Suggestions, perhaps? Even if you could spare a glass of water and a cool...
I had a great stay in Athens—my second visit after 11 years, and the experience was just as good as I remembered. Location: While the hotel is slightly removed from the city’s main attractions, it's only a 15-minute walk or a quick 5-minute metro ride to the lively parts of town. The Omonia metro station is conveniently close by. Room: The room was well-furnished and spacious enough to accommodate...
This was our first time staying at this hotel chain and we were pleasantly surprised. The customer service was top notch, every single person was attentive and went out of their way to assist us. The rooms were very nice and the beds were very comfy. The roof that bar was really nice and had great views. I personally wouldn’t stay at this hotel again due to the location. I would stay at this chain...
Great hotel with very helpful receptionists. Arrived late midnight but being warmly greeted by Alex the receptionist, it makes me feel at home after a busy travel day. The breakfast was great and not crowded. Close to metro stations and several places of interests & museums. I would definitely recommend and will be happy to return to the place in the future.

We had dinner at the roof restaurant of the hotel. The food was exceptional the service was impecable and most importantly Lazaros our server was the best! Always with a smile he was so patient and suggested the best food and wine. Really made our evening!!! Thank you. We will definitely come back.
This hotel has excellent location in the down town of Athens, close to all the shopping areas, historic places and restaurants. It has a beautiful roof top restaurant with views to Acropolis and very good quality food. I highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Athens.
I had the pleasure of staying at the Electra Palace Hotel in Athens for nearly a week, and I can’t recommend it enough! The hotel’s location is absolutely fantastic – both from my room and the rooftop restaurant, I had breathtaking views of the Acropolis, making every morning and evening unforgettable. I was particularly impressed with the outstanding service. The staff were always friendly, professional...
Great place to go for a late night after drink. After having dinner downtown, we decided to walk up to the rooftop bar and check it out. The view was so awesome. We decided to stay for a nightcap. My wife had the port and I had the Blantons old-fashioned. Beautiful evening nice breeze great company. Highly recommend if you have a chance to go by.
An Amazing place to stay in Athens. Great Location with spectacular views from the roof top bar and the pool. Close to everything you need and the service is amazing. The staff were always willing to help in anything we asked for. Would highly recommend.
All about the location really, great for a night stop before flying home if you’ve been to the islands. Recommend a meal out in Plaka. Taxi back to the airport is a lot quicker from here than anywhere else in Athens. Rooms are what you’d expect in a city centre hotel. I’m not going to say it was great value, I’ve spent half the price and been just as satisfied.

The hotel is very very good, I can't seem to understand some of the bad reviews. The reception was great and friendly the rooms were spacious and quiet. Our room window was across the train station and we could barely hear the trains go by. Amenities were sufficient and the breakfast was really good. The price and the location are excellent only 5 minutes away from the electric station that takes you...
Rooms are OK, but quite basic. AC and wifi work well. Buffet breakfast was good with a good selection. Also not too much noise from outside or street. Main advantage of this hotel which is not in a touristic area of Athens, is the location: some 15 min walk to Liosion bus station. One point that needs improvement: we only found one outlet, to which the fridge is connected … Anyway a good value for...
they don't provide hotel slippers! if you planning to stay dont forget yours. Breakfast is not the best for greece but good enough. There is a supermarket just across the street for your needs. Not far from kato patissi metro station and city center is only 10-15 minutes away. Smiley and helpful staff, clean rooms and sheets, reasonable price... I should add that if the breakfast staff take it easy...
I stayed at this hotel while visiting Athens for 4 nights. Good hotel option, not too far from central Athens There is a good breakfast at the hotel along with fast and free WiFi internet. The beds are comfortable, with a sturdy mattress. The staff is also very helpful. I was originally placed in a room with a very small and tight bathroom - when I shared this with the staff the next day, they swiftly...
It is a hotel that does not have many advantages except that it is centrally located and has transportation advantages. The breakfast is not bad, at least there are a few varieties. The rooms are a bit old and need to be renovated, but the cleanliness is sufficient. It is suitable for one or two day stays.
The location is fantastic! It is 5minutes walk from the subway station. The room and the bathroom is nice and clean! The walls of the room have absolutely no sound insulation... So if you have good earplugs: than this is a great place to stay, good value for money!
