Athenaeum Intercontinental, an IHG Hotel, Athens1 / 26

Athens, 89-93 Syngrou Avenue 🧭 Map
Such a beautiful hotel. If youre on the top floors with a suite, you get an AMAZING large LARGE balcony with a view of the Acropolis. Also some of the most friendly warm and extremely beautiful/attractive staff/guests as well. This place is high class indeed and welcomes travelers from all over. Its close to the city center as well with lots to see and do around the area.
This well-known hotel features modern rooms with a well-stocked minibar—definitely a pleasant surprise compared to the empty minibar at the Intercontinental Vienna. If your budget allows, I highly recommend choosing a room with a view of the Acropolis; the sight of this ancient landmark in the distance is truly breathtaking. However, be aware that your view might be slightly obstructed by some odd...
I’m an IHG loyalist. I can tell you the difference between the breakfast buffet at the Intercontinental hotels in Rome and Athens (sheeps milk yogurt vs honey in the comb) and quality is a hallmark of the experience. It’s a luxury hotel. That’s what you are paying for. The locations, the ambiance, and the service. Generally, everything is as close to perfect as one can get. We checked in last night...
Had a great stay at this hotel while visiting Athens, the location is ideal for exploring the city center and Acropolis using the nearby trams, buses, or metro. Staff were courteous and extremely helpful. They always went out of their way to be friendly and welcoming. Although the immediate surroundings look a bit dire the view from the rooftop restaurant and bar was absolutely stunning and more than...
My wife and I just stayed here for two nights. This is a fantastic Hotel with outstanding service. It was located perfectly for us and what we wanted to see. Today was our last day there. We left our bags with the doorman, as we were going to an island for the day and were going to return in the afternoon to collect our bags as we were heading to the airport this afternoon. When the taxi dropped us...
Stayed at this InterContinental in Athens and enjoyed it a lot. Great location, luxurious all around, and with decent amenities. The rooms were nice and large, well-maintained, and cozy to return to after spending time in Athens! Also a great location within Athens; close taxi ride to all the icons in the city. However, when we were checking in, one of the front desk ladies wasn’t all too understanding...

The hotel staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming, especially this lovely lady Miss Xenia who helped me split my day tour into two days according to my flight schedule. She even allowed me to check out later, so I didn't have to rush for the flight. I could come back, take a nice shower, rest, and pack. The breakfast and room service food were delicious, and the rooftop pool offered an amazing...
We arrived after our early morning flight and the bellman were very polite and took our baggage straight to storage but the front desk was quite rude to us about how early we arrived - I didn’t ask to check in and didn’t expect to, so there was no need to be rude. We only had 1 day in Athens so being well located to the main sites was important. This hotel was walkable to everything including the...
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Divani Caravel hotel during a business trip, and I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the exceptional service I received. I would like to extend a special thank you to your concierge, Xenia, who was incredibly helpful with every question and request. Her professionalism and attentiveness truly enhanced my stay. Additionally, I want to give...
Rooms were good n clean. Rooftop garden was nice but pool was very busy. Breakfast was great but Restaurant service / room service was horrible. We requested for 4 plates and 4 spoons - they asked for 12 euros per person plus additional 15 euros for Room delivery charges for just empty utensils. They were kind enough to give us plastic plates if we come down to get it. Next day, we asked for two plastic...
Excellent experience! Flight cancelled and sent to Devini Caravel. Gorgeous reception and beautiful room. Greek people so friendly and kind. Took very well care for us. Perfect setting in safe area. View from the pool of Acropolis and St George church. Food and service plentiful and diverse. Would come back to this hotel over and over.
We stayed at this Divani Caravel Athens in the last week of July and I must admit our experience was simply overwhelming and beyond expectations. The hotel room was exceptional , pool was great and overall location was very central to main centre square in Athens. The staff were great and assisted us in every possible manner however a special thanks goes to Dimitri’s Koursaris (hotel manager) whom...

One of the best Hiltons I’ve stayed at. The staff was friendly and helpful. As a diamond member we were upgraded to an acropolis view. They provided complimentary bottled water throughout our stay. The breakfast was amazing in the hotel restaurant and the drinks and view from the Galaxy bar are worth a visit. A great value for Award nights. I’d recommend anyone coming to Athens stay at this hotel.
Hotel is pretty large and grand, with a huge reception area. Some parts are a little dated but most looks clean and well looked after. Staff are friendly and attentive and you feel well looked after. It's not the cheapest place but the higher prices are justified
A fantastic hotel with the best views. The food in the rooftop restaurant was absolutely devine and the breakfasts were cooked to perfection. In the room itself, everything was easy to use and the pillows were the most comfortable I've ever had. I would definitely recommend and look forward to being able to return.
Really really great experience, from check-in to departure. Felt extremely valued as a Diamond member - front desk staff upgraded our room without even asking. Front desk staff was polite and professional and gracious. Room was fantastic - get the Acropolis view!!! Several restaurants behind the hotel within a 5 min walk. Location is great, 15 min walk from the marble Olympic stadium and literally...
my husband and I stayed at this hotel during our first trip to Greece and we had a very enjoyable stay! situated in a safe area between two metro stations, it was very convenient for getting around, although I quickly wished we'd stayed closer to Monastiraki Square as that's where we spent the most time. that said, this hotel was nice, if not a bit outdated. the breakfast was delicious and the rooftop...
When visiting Athens this is the perfect hotel. Location is great and the staff are very polite especially those in the executive lounge. Say hello to Dimitri while you're there. He is a great guy and pointed us in the direction of where to go and what to see.

This hotel has great service, staff and rooms. Breakfast is excellent and the staff is helpful and friendly. Great location with supermarkets and cafes nearby. The hotel is on a main road that leads to everywhere important in Athens and it’s safe at night. There’s a bus station in front of the hotel. The only small inconvenience is that the metro station is like 8 minutes away but the walk to the station...
Upon entry we thought the decor was lovely, service was great as well. However the rooms are average The walls are thin, found it very noisy from hallway noise. Access to the pool was blocked by furniture and you had to look frustrated walking around the restaurant to get outside. Just ridiculous. We ate at the restaurant and food was good, serving size was on the small side. The service was terrible...
Unfortunately we paid quite a high price to be told upon checking in we would have an ‘old’ room- these rooms aren’t up to standard as what’s shown in the booking photos. The unrenovated rooms aren’t sound proof, and no view. Breakfast is okay, not a standout. Great bakery just across the road with a huge variety. We weren’t disturbed by anything during our stay, but will likely stay somewhere closer...
It is one of the cleanest and most orderly hotels I have ever seen. This cleanliness is equal to the cleanliness standard of Japanese hotels. I am impressed with the staff and attentive service. In my opinion, the breakfast is not tasty and not varied. It is also a big mistake that hotel guests have to pay an additional fee for the pool.
Good hotel for business or holidays trip. Staff is nice and every ppl I met spoke a more then fair english language. Morning breakfast is abundant but doesn't excel in quality, I'd say average and anonymous. Rooms are ample and well fitted, bathroom is ample as well. Room service is fast but little flexibility to accept even simple off-menu requests. Nice roof-top restaurant with a view on the city...
I was a little concerned about staying here after reading some of the reviews, but we did not experience any of the negatives that people had written about. Neither did anyone in our large group of more than 30 people. The decor was very nice. The rooms were updated, very clean and extremely comfortable. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we were welcomed with the utmost courtesy. The reception staff greeted us warmly, and the service attendant provided a thorough explanation of our room. The dining room service was impeccable, ensuring a delightful experience throughout our stay. Every moment was truly five-star worthy. We had an exceptional time at our hotel in Athens!
I was in this hotel multiple times due to my work and the hotel is just amazing. Beds in this hotel are the most comfortable ones I ever slept on. I do see that Sofitel answers these reviews sometimes. If anyone from sofitel reads this, could you please tell me the exact name of the mattress that is in your rooms and where can I buy one. Thank you!
The location is very convenient, as it's right next to the airport, so you can easily walk there without needing a car. The staff was friendly. But if you are hotel guest car parking is free. The rooms were clean and neat, but I felt the price was too high to be considered luxury. Additionally, there was no microwave in the rooms, which was a bit inconvenient. Overall, it was a decent stay but could...
I was booked by the airline I was flying with due to a flight cancellation and my stay was great. Staff are welcoming, professional and go above and beyond to serve customers. The breakfast buffet had a great variety of options – the best i've had by far. Lunch and dinner are also delicious. The room was comfortable and clean and with great amenities.
You literally walk across the street from arrivals and you’re in the hotel. It couldn’t be any more convenient. Great friendly service and two restaurants to choose from. The rooms are so quiet you’d never know you were staying at the airport.

Overall a pleasant experience. Fantastic rooftop bar and restaurant with great food and stunning views of the acropolis. The service staff were all very friendly and d helpful. From reading some of these reviews a week before I arrived I thought I was going to be staying in the worst hotel on earth, the reality was very much the opposite. The amenity space on the rooftop is the best feature of this hotel. The pool area is really large and very nice. It's very busy so it's not easy getting a spot to sit but it's worth the effort. We stayed here for 1 night, the rooftop was the best part! Panoramic views of Athens and the Acropolis. Service was very slow, we ate on the rooftop for lunch and it took over an hour and a half to get our food. However, it was all spectacular in taste. The rooms are subpar. Friendly staff at the front desk recommended a great rental car company that brought the car to the hotel.

Stayed one night prior to transfer to the cruise ship. Air France misplaced luggage so we got into the hotel later than anticipated. For the little while we stayed there the hotel was great. The processed a lot of people in and out to the ships. Had dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant and was very good. Rooms were comfortable.
Great quality hotel! So far it’s been a great experience. We flew in with a group of about 70 people for a tour with discovery tours. We showed up at the hotel, 10 minutes later, we were all checked in and in our rooms. Excellent service. Nice, clean, and neat rooms. The buffet and other accommodation have been wonderful!
This review is specifically for the Great Room bar (the entire experience has been great but I want to focus on this bar for this review). My wife and I are on our Anniversary trip and had the pleasure of staying at the Athens Marriott Sunday September 1st. Hotel that various cruise ships use. Mid Athens location. Lido grocery store a 9 minute walk - bread, cheese, wine. Four nearby restaurants. Hotel has a good breakfast buffet. About an hour drive to airport - taxi $50 or 50 erous. Small pool on roof and bar with scenic views.
Don’t be put off by location. This is a great place to stay and with a 10 mins bus ride you will be in town. Also the hop on hop off bus stops outside the hotel for a convenient tour. We have spent 4 days here and never felt the need after 8 hours of Hellenic heat to go out in the evening as there are nice local restaurant too. Royal Olympia Hotel clearly shows it was once a luxury destination, but unfortunately, it no longer meets the standards expected of a 5-star hotel today. While the breakfast was enjoyable, it’s surprising that even basics like cappuccino aren’t complimentary. Worse, there’s no free water in the room, and they charged us €4 for a small bottle! The management’s approach feels outdated, focusing on appearances...
The rooms are not in very good condition. I think they are quite old. I did not have any problems with hygiene. The breakfast is really nice. The variety may be small but everything is quite delicious. Especially the view is very nice. It is a nice feeling to have breakfast in the morning facing historical buildings. A lovely hotel in a perfect location, just 10 minutes walk to Acropolis southern entrance. Good sized, very clean rooms, nice sized bathrooms, with shower over bath. Top floor bar overlooking Acropolis and the park. Breakfast was good with lots of choice and good service, also located in restaurant on top floor to enjoy the views. Would certainly return here.
The room was clean and comfortable. It was huge and a very nice room. The bathroom was amazing. We enjoyed our time there. The breakfast was part of the room and delicious. The staff was helpful. The view is good but not as amazing as the hotel photos. The area is decent but I wasn't impressed with most of Athens.
Overall we loved our stay here- the hotel is in a perfect location for being close to restaurants/shops as well at the Acropolis. The hotel is gorgeous and well kept, but the rooms literally have ONE single outlet. None in the bathroom, none by the beds!! Excellent hotel with probably the most friendly staff I've ever experienced. The hotel has a really nice roof top bar with the best views on the Acropolis and is super centrally located. I found it exceptional value for money.
Our family had an exceptional experience here, thanks to the impeccable service and perfect location. Traveling with a young child can be challenging, staff made everything easy and enjoyable for us. Here’s an asset to your hotel. Thermis at the desk, an extraordinary ambassador! Welcoming and helpful to an all of us traveling from Hawaii! Dinning waitstaff is superb!
We recently stayed here and loved the location and enjoyed the pool. The room was clean and comfortable and a clear priority. The cleaning and support staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. Natasha in the reception area is an angel. I don’t think the hotel could afford to give everyone the service she gave us so I won’t mention specifically what it was. Imagine a private terrace with a hot tub with the Parthenon right over us. It was amazing.

I have led multiple groups overseas. This is a fantastic hotel. Centrally located. Excellent food rooms are clean and very comfortable. The rooftop restaurant and bar has an unbelievable view of the Acropolis. Highly recommend.
Even though the hotel is an older one, service was excellent - the staff was very attentive and friendly. Breakfast and coffee were excellent and the rooftop view was a fabulous one. The elevators are busy in the morning as can be the breakfast bar at around 8 so get to there early!
The hotel location was awesome. The view from.the top floor restaurant was amazing. The breakfast was expansive and delicious. The front entrance is elegant but our room was run down. We had a window that was covered so really did not see daylight until we ventured out. Bed was horrible and shower was challenging.
Reasonably good hotel overall despite some old outlooks and slowness — your elevator in the peak morning hours can easily take 5 minutes to come. The staffs are helpful and friendly and the breakfast area is simply fantastic. The location is pretty awesome. It would’ve been lovely if the room keeping service included the water refill, especially when we stayed for four consecutive nights.
Needs Customer Service Training! The restaurant Maître d' in the evening is abrasive and curt. This hotel has implemented a new policy where paying hotel guests are not allowed to access the rooftop patio unless they are consuming food from the restaurant or bar. A nice hotel with excellent service. The location is close to everything you would want to see in Athens! Rooms were pretty clean but they are a little dated. Probably the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed at. The bedroom doors are very thin and you can hear housekeepings every move knock and bang, even the noise of plastic bags rustling. We actually checked in on the day after we were supposed to. My travel agents fault. No problem, they moved the day of check in and off we went. If you’re looking for a memorable stay in Athens, I can’t recommend this hotel enough. It’s truly a gem, made even better by the incredible team that ensures each guest feels valued. They were super helpful and supportive. Thank you to all of them for making my visit unforgettable—I can’t wait to return!
I recently had the pleasure of organizing a business meeting in Wyndham Grand Athens hotel, and I can't recommend it enough! The organization was impressive. The staff was incredibly responsive to any inquiries, even changing the meeting room at very last minute. The restaurant at the hotel served delicious food! The rooms were well-appointed and comfortable, providing a perfect retreat after a day...
We spent 3 nights in Athens at the Wyndham. The service was great. Reception was friendly, the hotel is clean with an excellent view of the Parthenon on the rooftop. The service at the restaurant was fantastic and the food was so delicious. Thank you Wyndham Grand. We would recommend this hotel for its location, close to hop on and hop off buses and public transport
Simply put, the staff is exceptional. As single parent traveling with young daughters, not only were the staff friendly, inviting and accommodating, they also made it their mission to make our stay perfect! Truth be told, this is our second stay and it was a non-negotiable that we stay at the Wyndham Grand! This coming from my daughters! Even in a neighborhood that shows all the facets of urban life...
Travel agent recommended this hotel, has a pool and breakfast at rooftop that can see Acropolis. It's a bit far from the historical centre which was hard to walk to in the heat of summer. Hotel carpet was smelly around The rooms, maybe from smoking but I did not like that the most about this hotel. Breakfast bar was great, they have free slippers and things for you to use but it's not that luxurious...
Room was fine, we booked for 3 people and one had to sleep on a couch which was a bit disappointing. Bottles of soap and shampoo/body wash were empty in our bathroom which was odd. The buffet was amazing. Great views of the Acropolis and great selection of food and drink. Upon checkout we were repeatedly told to leave a good review which was quite off putting to be honest. Overall good. Few suggestions

We had an absolutely wonderful stay! We had the most beautiful view of the Acropolis from our room and enjoyed complimentary access to the mini bar in our room. Our housekeepers, Carina (I believe that's how it's spelled) and Eleni were phenomenal and very kind! Anastasia was wonderful as well! Basilis at the bar made me the best cocktail and was great to conversate with! He was very funny and attentive...
Went for a conference, place was roomy and well organized, although a bit chilly. Food was also more than decent. Overall quiet and in a central location.
Perfect hotel for a business trip. Maintains all the typical western style hotel standards. Breakfast had tons of options. The staff was outstanding! Any requests we had they made it happen. Bit of a rough neighborhood but there is free parking if you have a rental car.
overall, it was a mixed experience. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the service from the staff was excellent. However, the breakfast was a major letdown. The food was not tasty at all, and unfortunately, I even got sick after eating it. Honestly, I would have preferred to skip breakfast altogether. While the hotel is a bit far from the main attractions, the quality of the room and...
I had a good stay in this hotel, also because I got upgraded to a suite. This room was slightly outdated, but spacious, clean and the bed was good. The breakfast buffet was very nice with a great choice of products. The view from the rooftop pool and terrace is beautiful, with the Acropolis in the distance. The hotel staff is efficient but not overly friendly. The area around the hotel is somewhat...
If this review is helpful, please make sure you leave it a like 👍👍👍. This is a very typical Novotel. European brand out of Paris. The rooms were very typical of european rooms. Very accommodating staff. They tried their best to help you with anything you needed assistance with. Friendly cleaning staff as well. Lovely rooftop bar situated next to the pool on the seventh floor. Plus, the hotel is only...

This was my third stay at this hotel, although the start was a bit bumpy as the very nice jacuzzis at the rooftop were not activated at check-in, the manager immediately tried to find a solution and a short time later the jacuzzis were usable. The rooms are fine, the beds are very comfortable and the breakfast is exceptionally good. As a compensation, because the jacuzzi was not yet active the day...
Thanks for everything! We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. Their friendly and attentive service truly made a difference. The food was delicious, with a variety of options that satisfied all tastes, and breakfast was a particular highlight with its fresh and diverse offerings. Our room was impeccably...
If you like a quirky hotel, then this is for you. It has a 60s theme but with 70s music constantly playing. The decor is disco themed and they even have disco balls outside the lifts. The staff are excellent and were all very friendly and helpful. The hotel is right by the subway in a good location for sightseeing but a bit of a run-down area (not as crime ridden as some of the reviews I read). Some...
‏We stayed at Brown Hotel in Athens, and the experience was simply amazing! The hospitality was top-notch, and the staff was friendly and always ready to help. Steve at the reception greeted us with a big smile, assisted us with everything we needed, and recommended great places to visit with the kids. ‏The breakfast was excellent, and the view from the rooftop restaurant of the Acropolis and the...
This hotel is in a great location and right by public transportation. The staff was very friendly and communicative. The rooftop was fantastic and relaxing. Rooms were clean and spacious with all the amenities you need - mini fridge, coffee maker with supplies, and a record player. The hotel has a cool vibe and it’s fun to take pictures under the disco ball by the elevators. Plenty of space to relax...
Spent two nights here and enjoyed our stay. Rooftop service and food was very good. The buffet breakfast on departure day was excellent. This was a short stay so we remained close to the hotel. Our limited interactions with the staff were just enough for us to be able to comment on the fact that they were friendly and helpful. Sadly, we did not play the album in our room.

Premises and location were excellent. Room was spacious and immaculate, as you would expect. The thing which was disconcerting, however, was that staff morale seemed very low throughout our stay. It was pretty cold and awkward both in the lobby and at breakfast and markedly different from other hotels of a similar standing. This is a very prestigious and well-known institution in Athens but the lived...
It can’t get any better than this. The view alone is worth staying here. Add to that elegant rooms and common areas, attentive staff and delicious food and you have the perfect mix. It is close to everything. Rooms are immaculate. The gym is small but, from what I can see, the hotel doesn’t target that clientele so it’s ok .. I would definitely recommend and come back here!
Everything is extraordinary about this historic hotel in the heart of Athens, near Syntagma Square, just opposite the Greek Parliament. Even if you don’t (choose to) stay there, you should visit the Spa, which offers wonderful treatments in a calm, cosy, yet luxurious atmosphere. A brunch or an afternoon tea at the Winter Lounge complete the pleasurable experience. And of course there is the Roof Garden...
Old world elegance with modern luxury service. The guest rooms have maintained their old school appointments, but the upstairs lounge and bar are very much updated with modern decor. The rooftop bar/restaurant is definitely the highlight, although evening cocktails are 24 euro, so you're paying for the view and ambiance. The breakfast is 5 star in every way; we booked a rate that included breakfast...
The grande dame of Athens hotels! Great service, some rooms are a little dated but the views are incredible. Located next to the Syntagma metro station, getting anywhere in Athens is very easy. Pro tip: you can watch the changing of the guard from the rooftop restaurant.
A grand hotel centrally located - but it’s certainly dated The service was impeccable throughout - the breakfast was vast and well stocked The dinner at the rooftop restaurant was very well paced and the food of high quality The stand out is the ambassador bar on the 1st floor which has won many awards The cocktails are to die for and a great way to kick off the night! It is expensive however so be...

Wow, c'est tres bon! The spectacular view was only outdone by Walid's consumate attention to service with every detail at The Grill restaurant! We did not stay in this hotel (only ate here) but if/when we visit Cairo again we will definitely consider this wonderfully charming hotel.
I’ll just say this anyone who’s ever experienced an actual 5 star hotel is going to be extremely disappointed by these accommodations and the services provided. The staff obviously really wants to do a good job but just aren’t equipped well enough to deliver and it’s clear they are strained by a management that’s trying to cover up every corner cut by offering an outwardly unique looking experience...
Feels like you’re staying in Barbie’s dream house. It’s colorful and modern and the pool is fantastic! The food was also delicious and the service was top notch. It’s close to the upscale Kifisia neighborhood close to great shopping and dining. I’d definitely stay there again.
We recently stayed at what we dubbed the "Barbie Hotel," known for its bold, industrial, and colorful design that you’ll either love or not. The rooms are small but well-designed, maximizing the limited space. Service is limited, so don't expect too much in terms of attentiveness. The pool is not bad and the neighbourhood is great with lots of local eateries. It’s an upscale part of Athens. If you...
We had an amazing time at the Semiramis hotel on July 5-6, 2024. Came as a family of 5 so had to get two rooms (they put us beside eachother which was very convenient)! The amenities were fantastic and we enjoyed time at the pool after we checked in. The vibe of this hotel is very cool and fun- lots of bright colours (my daughters aged 14-19) loved it and want to come back. Breakfast buffet had a...
Colorful & lively hotel, particularly friendly & helpful staff, excellent breakfast with attentive service. Highly recommend to those visiting in greater Athens area. Easy walking to beautiful parks, restaurants, shops.
