Athenaeum Intercontinental, an IHG Hotel, Athens1 / 26

Athens, 89-93 Syngrou Avenue 🧭 Map
Such a beautiful hotel. If youre on the top floors with a suite, you get an AMAZING large LARGE balcony with a view of the Acropolis. Also some of the most friendly warm and extremely beautiful/attractive staff/guests as well. This place is high class indeed and welcomes travelers from all over. Its close to the city center as well with lots to see and do around the area.
This well-known hotel features modern rooms with a well-stocked minibar—definitely a pleasant surprise compared to the empty minibar at the Intercontinental Vienna. If your budget allows, I highly recommend choosing a room with a view of the Acropolis; the sight of this ancient landmark in the distance is truly breathtaking. However, be aware that your view might be slightly obstructed by some odd...
I’m an IHG loyalist. I can tell you the difference between the breakfast buffet at the Intercontinental hotels in Rome and Athens (sheeps milk yogurt vs honey in the comb) and quality is a hallmark of the experience. It’s a luxury hotel. That’s what you are paying for. The locations, the ambiance, and the service. Generally, everything is as close to perfect as one can get. We checked in last night...
Had a great stay at this hotel while visiting Athens, the location is ideal for exploring the city center and Acropolis using the nearby trams, buses, or metro. Staff were courteous and extremely helpful. They always went out of their way to be friendly and welcoming. Although the immediate surroundings look a bit dire the view from the rooftop restaurant and bar was absolutely stunning and more than...
My wife and I just stayed here for two nights. This is a fantastic Hotel with outstanding service. It was located perfectly for us and what we wanted to see. Today was our last day there. We left our bags with the doorman, as we were going to an island for the day and were going to return in the afternoon to collect our bags as we were heading to the airport this afternoon. When the taxi dropped us...
Stayed at this InterContinental in Athens and enjoyed it a lot. Great location, luxurious all around, and with decent amenities. The rooms were nice and large, well-maintained, and cozy to return to after spending time in Athens! Also a great location within Athens; close taxi ride to all the icons in the city. However, when we were checking in, one of the front desk ladies wasn’t all too understanding...

This hotel has great service, staff and rooms. Breakfast is excellent and the staff is helpful and friendly. Great location with supermarkets and cafes nearby. The hotel is on a main road that leads to everywhere important in Athens and it’s safe at night. There’s a bus station in front of the hotel. The only small inconvenience is that the metro station is like 8 minutes away but the walk to the station...
Upon entry we thought the decor was lovely, service was great as well. However the rooms are average The walls are thin, found it very noisy from hallway noise. Access to the pool was blocked by furniture and you had to look frustrated walking around the restaurant to get outside. Just ridiculous. We ate at the restaurant and food was good, serving size was on the small side. The service was terrible...
Unfortunately we paid quite a high price to be told upon checking in we would have an ‘old’ room- these rooms aren’t up to standard as what’s shown in the booking photos. The unrenovated rooms aren’t sound proof, and no view. Breakfast is okay, not a standout. Great bakery just across the road with a huge variety. We weren’t disturbed by anything during our stay, but will likely stay somewhere closer...
It is one of the cleanest and most orderly hotels I have ever seen. This cleanliness is equal to the cleanliness standard of Japanese hotels. I am impressed with the staff and attentive service. In my opinion, the breakfast is not tasty and not varied. It is also a big mistake that hotel guests have to pay an additional fee for the pool.
Good hotel for business or holidays trip. Staff is nice and every ppl I met spoke a more then fair english language. Morning breakfast is abundant but doesn't excel in quality, I'd say average and anonymous. Rooms are ample and well fitted, bathroom is ample as well. Room service is fast but little flexibility to accept even simple off-menu requests. Nice roof-top restaurant with a view on the city...
I was a little concerned about staying here after reading some of the reviews, but we did not experience any of the negatives that people had written about. Neither did anyone in our large group of more than 30 people. The decor was very nice. The rooms were updated, very clean and extremely comfortable. The breakfast was much more than your standard complementary hotel breakfast. There had to be...

I have led multiple groups overseas. This is a fantastic hotel. Centrally located. Excellent food rooms are clean and very comfortable. The rooftop restaurant and bar has an unbelievable view of the Acropolis. Highly recommend.
Even though the hotel is an older one, service was excellent - the staff was very attentive and friendly. Breakfast and coffee were excellent and the rooftop view was a fabulous one. The elevators are busy in the morning as can be the breakfast bar at around 8 so get to there early!
The hotel location was awesome. The view from.the top floor restaurant was amazing. The breakfast was expansive and delicious. The front entrance is elegant but our room was run down. We had a window that was covered so really did not see daylight until we ventured out. Bed was horrible and shower was challenging.
Reasonably good hotel overall despite some old outlooks and slowness — your elevator in the peak morning hours can easily take 5 minutes to come. The staffs are helpful and friendly and the breakfast area is simply fantastic. The location is pretty awesome. It would’ve been lovely if the room keeping service included the water refill, especially when we stayed for four consecutive nights.
Needs Customer Service Training! The restaurant Maître d' in the evening is abrasive and curt. I had drinks at the bar during the day and enjoyed the rooftop patio views but when I returned later that evening to get some nighttime photos, I was informed that I was not able to access the patio unless I purchased food or drink despite being a paying hotel guest. Overall, the hotel is mediocre and nothing...
This hotel has implemented a new policy where paying hotel guests are not allowed to access the rooftop patio unless they are consuming food from the restaurant or bar. We were told that it is upsetting to those dining at the restaurant for non-diners to enjoy the rooftop. After requesting to speak to management, it was explained that this is their new policy. Additionally, half the rooftop is roped...
The breakfast was very good and plentiful with lot of choices for kind of guests. The Food was fresh and tasty. The Front desk were very good and polite and attentive with all the guests. The house keeping was very good and had all the clean bedsheets and towels and all amenities were in plentiful. The room was cleaned everyday.

Apart from the great location and accessibility to the tourist attractions, the service at this hotel was impeccable. Shout out to Kostas at the reception who went above and beyond to help us with our room situation when it didn't meet the expectations from the original booking. Staff generally were all pleasant, friendly and welcoming. The breakfast options were decent and a great view to boot. I...
We stayed at the Stanley at the beginning of our trip to Greece and again at the end when we were back in Athens. Our stay was absolutely amazing. The staff were always friendly and accommodating. Overall a pleasant experience. Fantastic rooftop bar and restaurant with great food and stunning views of the acropolis. The service staff were all very friendly and d helpful. The breakfast buffet leaves a bit of room for improvement. The rooms are clean and have a comfy bed and seem to be well soundproofed as I did not hear my neighbors which is often a nuisance in some other hotels. Would stay there...
From reading some of these reviews a week before I arrived I thought I was going to be staying in the worst hotel on earth, the reality was very much the opposite. The room was a really decent size for a European city hotel! The bathroom was fine, some room for improvement in that area but perfectly adequate! The reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the breakfast buffet was also very...
The amenity space on the rooftop is the best feature of this hotel. The pool area is really large and very nice. It's very busy so it's not easy getting a spot to sit but it's worth the effort. The free breakfast on the rooftop is also very good. Very good selection of food and the views are amazing. The rooms themselves are dated and the bathrooms are so extremely small. One would expect a more luxury...
We stayed here for 1 night, the rooftop was the best part! Panoramic views of Athens and the Acropolis. Service was very slow, we ate on the rooftop for lunch and it took over an hour and a half to get our food. However, it was all spectacular in taste. The rooms are subpar. Friendly staff at the front desk recommended a great rental car company that brought the car to the hotel.

I do not believe this property reflects a 4 star hotel by definition. Let's start with location...It is located in a not so atheistically pleasing part of Athens so be careful walking around the neighborhood. The rooms are too small and very outdated. I stayed at this place for a total of 5 nights on 3 separate occasions because of a group tour. First 2 nights the room was as small with a window that...
Excellent option in Athens!!! Warm and kind staff. Clean room, outstanding view from the rooftop restaurant and plenty of options for breakfast! It's a 5/5 recommendation for your trip in Athens.
We stayed at the Polis Grand a few times during our trip in Greece. The rooms were comfortable, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful! I wanted to call special attention to Costas! He was there almost every time we were in the lobby, and he made a point to remember us and greet us with familiarity, making the check in / check out process feel a lot smoother! I really appreciated him!!
I stayed there for nights with my Wife and Daughter, The Staff were so very nice. The Breakfast was buffet was amazing, every morning, so very much to choose from, it was amazing. The room was clean and I have to say that if this hotel is not a 5 star it should be !!!. If I go back again to Athens I will want to stay in this hotel. Thank you for the amazing hospitality, great breakfast, and the roof...
A very nice four to five star hotel in downtown Athens. Our stay there was superb with rooftop dining and a marvelous view of the city. Highly recommend the mojitos!
We stayed at this hotel twice. The first time our room was very small with two beds together instead of one big bed. The second room was much bigger with one bed, but no balcony like the first one had. The rooftop bar has a decent view of the Acropolis, but it's nothing like the pictures online.

Arrived in late evening of November 25, had a confirmation of my overnight stay, they could not find my reservation. They eventually found my reservation, asked for a 3am wake up call for an early flight out of Athens Airport, only for receptionist to ring my room at 3:26 am, to inform my Suttle bus was due to leave at 3:30 am. I kindly asked him to keep bus waiting for me, and asked him why he...
For one night stop over maybe two nights it is an ideal spot. They don’t serve lunch or dinner and one has to go to the restaurants outside or to the hotel next-door to get food. However, their breakfast is well above average. I would definitely stay there again and I will
Exceeded our expectations! A much better and more affordable option than the Sofitel. While it’s not within walking distance from the terminal, the hourly shuttle bus makes up for it. The staff were friendly and patient, and the rooms are spacious—perfect for families on a short layover. However, if your layover is during the day, don’t expect many activities to keep the kids entertained. The breakfast...
Good location for a layover—if you plan to stay longer you’ll need a car or be prepared for taxis or public transportation. Only one food option around (within hotel) otherwise. Staff were friendly and there’s reliable wifi and comfy beds (despite the sheets not completely covering the bed). The problem was the room, mainly the soundproofing or lack thereof. I was woken up by the sound of a full...
Very nice hotel if you want something close and calm near the airport go here. Only downside is that it is kind of in the middle of nowhere so if you want to get food only thing to get is at the gas station. If you like quiet go here.
Great place to stop for an early flight. The shuttle goes to the airport ever hour. the front desk is very helpful and the rooms are super nice.

Very clean central hotel with amazing complimentary amenities! The stuff is super kind and helpful! Don't miss to refresh yourselves with a nice haircut/ hair styling with Mairy!
We chose this hotel despite its location 3 km from the city centre, as the room was advertised as soundproof. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. From the 4th floor, we could hear every noise from the street, to the point we thought the window might be open. It made it very difficult to sleep. Although we had requested a quiet room, we had to spend one night there before being moved to a quieter one...
First of all with any help that you need they will give it to you like it's an instinct. All recommendations were so good due to their high amount of knowledge. I spent 2 weeks there. The part I loved the most was the staff: the waiters were kind and lovely with me; the service was optimally and the room has been cleaned several times. Moreover, the hotel has got many board games that I loved playing with my friends. I loved the place!
I’ve spent 15 nights in this hotel and I really enjoyed this experience and the place although the rooms were too small to fit in 3 of us. Services were good and food was acceptable especially the large breakfast. I’ve also liked the tranquility of the people in this place. It deserves a lot.
Excellent location if you visit Athens! The staff was truly amazing trying to make your stay an unforgettable experience. The hotel has an amazing breakfast buffet with lots of Greek delicacies. Thank you Stratos Vasilikos! We will be back soon!

Went for a conference, place was roomy and well organized, although a bit chilly. Food was also more than decent. Overall quiet and in a central location.
Perfect hotel for a business trip. Maintains all the typical western style hotel standards. Breakfast had tons of options. The staff was outstanding! Any requests we had they made it happen. Bit of a rough neighborhood but there is free parking if you have a rental car.
overall, it was a mixed experience. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the service from the staff was excellent. However, the breakfast was a major letdown. The surroundings are less crowded, providing a relaxed atmosphere with stunning sunsets and plenty of great dining options nearby...
The hotel was very comfortable and clean. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. He recommended and reserved a very nice seafood taverna for us. The hotel has a bar and swimming pool with a lifeguard. The included breakfast was one of the best on this trip
Excellent breakfast! and nice location plus rooms are kept very clean. Great reception team and kitchen staff that are accomodating. Only complaint is some cleaning staff smoke in staff rooms/closets off of the common areas especially on the 3rd floor. Hallways wreaked of cigarette smoke every morning that eventually seeped into the guest rooms even up until the early afternoons. In my opinion in...
I had a very positive experience after booking 10+ rooms for my wedding guests in Palmyra hotel. Their reservations department communicated effectively with me and on time about organisation and payments. My guests were all delighted with their stay and the room.
Very spacious rooms with abundant parking and good air conditioning. They didn’t have the room we booked so we received a family room (two separate rooms, one with a double bed and one with 2 twin beds, a living room with a couch and coffee table). However the rooms were quite noisy being close to the airport and a 6 lane road, but the view from our balcony was great.
Great place to stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The food in the hotel restaurant was delicious. The front desk staff ordered cabs for us when needed. The location was perfect for the beach (5 mininute walk). Also convenient to walk to restaurants and shopping. We would highly recommend!

Rooms are OK, but quite basic. AC and wifi work well. Buffet breakfast was good with a good selection. Also not too much noise from outside or street. Everything is quite above average except location is off the tourist area. The room is quite spacious which is a plus. However, It will take 20 min taxi (10 Euro) to reach the Plaka area. There's not much shopping or restaurant choices nearby. ...After reading the hotel feedback on my post, I apologize for my wrong perception that the hotel is not in city center.
Comfortable, relatively inexpensive, half hour walk from Syntagma Square. Slightly faded/well-worn feel to the place e.g. room key cards needed replacing 3 times in 48 hours. Pool on top excellent facility. Extremely dull, central casting breakfast buffet - more fuel than delicious!

I was very comfortable staying here, all staff were friendly and greeted me with a warm smile. I would highly recommend. Beautiful view of The Acropolis from the roof restaurant and bar!!
I would have given this hotel 5 stars if it were not for the welcome we received upon our arrival. Our overseas flight landed at 8 am and we were at this hotel by 10. We could not get a room until 2 pm! This was after a long day of traveling. After speaking with other hotel guests, this seems to be a persistent problem. Suggestions, perhaps? Even if you could spare a glass of water and a cool...
I had a great stay in Athens—my second visit after 11 years, and the experience was just as good as I remembered. Location: While the hotel is slightly removed from the city’s main attractions, it's only a 15-minute walk or a quick 5-minute metro ride to the lively parts of town. The Omonia metro station is conveniently close by. Room: The room was well-furnished and spacious enough to accommodate...
This was our first time staying at this hotel chain and we were pleasantly surprised. The customer service was top notch, every single person was attentive and went out of their way to assist us. The rooms were very nice and the beds were very comfy. The roof that bar was really nice and had great views. I personally wouldn’t stay at this hotel again due to the location. I would stay at this chain...
Great hotel with very helpful receptionists. Arrived late midnight but being warmly greeted by Alex the receptionist, it makes me feel at home after a busy travel day. The breakfast was great and not crowded. Close to metro stations and several places of interests & museums. I would definitely recommend and will be happy to return to the place in the future.

This is a great value conveniently located hotel in Athens beside the Omonia metro station. A smart rooftop pool and bar area, good breakfast and above all friendly staff. I must commend one of the reception staff who went above and beyond in his interactions with us.
A great location in middle of Athens near the Omonoia square. Room service was always good, hotel service “reception” was great too except the time when we arrived they were ok making a silly assumption. There is a pool “not a swimming one” and a bar with a great view. You can have a cocktail while sun bathing. Will stay there again when I come back
Perfect location, to all attractions. Lots of taxi choices or 2 stops on metro. Really easy. Can get a 5 day metro card for 8 euros. Staff amazing and friendly. Food perfect and hotel really clean and perfect decoration for a city break. If there was one negative- we stayed when it was extremely hot. Only 4/5 umbrella available which meant a lot of sunbeds/ seats in direct sun. So it was a race in...
Amazing hotel, they do think of everything! Perfectly located, extremely modern, clean, amazing decor and scent. Super rooftop bar with pool and jacuzzi looking over the Acropolis. There’s massage service and gym and restaurant with beautiful food. But above all the staff is beyond friendly and helpful, down to the last cleaning lady. Kristos from reception was so nice,he welcomed us after a long journey...
Had a wonderful stay over Easter. Great location with transport links, local shops and eateries. Roof terrace is lovely with amazing views across the city. Rooms are really nice but they are quite dark and lacking on storage space. Cleaned every day to a high standard. Breakfast is absolutely amazing! So much choice and everything was always fresh. Something for everyone. All the staff are truly lovely...
We visited Brown Lighthouse in September 2023 and really enjoyed our stay! The food was really good from the hotel restaurents and the breakfast was good too! The room was very functional and the layout was great - we were in room 709 and the view of the fountain was lovely, in the day and the night! There were a few things, service wise, that we were not happy about - like having to ask for our...
The hotel is just across the street from the subway red line , three stops from the acropolis and at 1.20euro one way per person. The hop on and off bus was there as well . The breakfast was included with the room cost and was fantastic ! The view of the acropolis at night is not to be missed . The staff exceptional, the room European . Great stay all around. The neighborhood, well ????but local restaurants...
Very close to the stop for the red go on go off bus. Everywhere we needed to go was within walking distance. We only ate breakfast in the hotel. The standard was very high. Such an array of choices, definitely recommend it.
The view from the balcony... there is no view. It's worthless to paid additional for balcony. The view is of an empty building and you can't see the sun. The lights on the balcony are on until about midnight The room is dark, but it's personal preferences
The location of the hotel is excellent, we were afraid of all the warnings about homeless people and the danger of walking around the square, there is no problem, even late at night the square is crowded with tourists and there is no danger, regarding homeless people, we saw them everywhere. Handled any problem quickly and efficiently

This is the most hospitable hotel I've stayed at in Europe, leaving a perfect impression for my husband and me on our first visit to Athens. The hotel terrace offers a stunning night view of the Acropolis (there's even a hot tub, though we couldn't try it this time as we didn't bring swimwear). The location is safe and conveniently close to tourist attractions and shopping streets. Additionally, the...
This hotel was absolutely amazing - from the staff to the location, it was a perfect stay. It is right in the heart of Athens and walking distance to most attractions. The staff was extremely accommodating and welcoming and gave us some great recommendations for local Greek food and bars to visit. The restaurant at the hotel also had a great selection of traditional Greek food that was delicious.
Truly in the heart of Athens, just blocks from the Acropolis. Our room was spacious considering the size of the hotel, and the service has been outstanding! We arrived well before check in and the hotel staff did what they could to get us in early (our flight landed nearly an hour ahead of schedule). From that point on, the front desk staff attended to all of our needs. This excellent level of service...
My husband and I had the pleasure of enjoying The Herodion Hotel on our recent trip to Athens. We had never been to the city before and were spending a short time there before departing for a cruise. Our decision to stay here was based on reviews online and we could not be more impressed. My husband and could not stop singing the Herodions praises, I lost count of how many times he would just sit back...
Hotel is in a great location convenient for the Acropolis site and Acropolis museum, but in a relatively quiet location. Many good bars and restaurants close by. Rooms are comfortable with a high standard of housekeeping. Great lounge/bar area on the ground floor and fabulous roof terrace bar and restaurant with great views of the Acropolis. Service was friendly and extremely helpful.
Location is perfect - walkable to everything but street is not a sea of tourists. The view of the acropolis is stunning from the jacuzzi’s and the rooftop restaurant. We arrived late on a Friday and they were able to get us a table for 2. Dinner, drinks & service at the rooftop restaurant were top notch. After checkout they stored our bags for us, gratis, and we explored the city a bit more before...
We got a room over at Herodion, but they did not have a room available. Although we were provided a substitute of free dinner and a stay at another hotel, we were offered no other possible compensation, which was heavily disappointing.

*This review is only for the restaurant* We dinned there after a wedding ceremony. The prepared menu was neatly cooked and all the varieties of meat tasted great. For a restaurant of a 4-star hotel though, it wasn't something spectacular. The waiting staff were fast and polite, despite the 70 people that they had to serve. If you want to stay here, you will possibly enjoy the restaurant too.
Nice rooms, fluffy pillows. Breakfast is good, served 7-10am and until 11am on sunday. Good varuety of fruits, eggs, breads and yogurt. The juice is very sweet. The restaurant seems to never be open, so we havent been. The pool is nice, but not very clean. Its windy here so i imagine its difficult to keep clean with all the surrounding trees. We are in a view of the pool, and what looks like a junk...
The hotel was amazing with very friendly staff and the breakfast was fantastic. The room was great and clean. The host in the restaurant, George was really cute and nice. I would definitely stay there again, wish I could stay longer.
The best swimming pool in Athens, we love visiting Fenix because it is a tranquil place where we can enjoy our swimming.
Room was great. Good location for the airport. Great outdoor parking. Nice pool. Great bed. Good service. No complaints!

It was a beautiful hotel in the middle of all things fun. Very central to shopping good food and sites. The downside was the head of housekeeping twice knocked on the door and immediately walked in without giving me a chance to even respond. Once while I was in the middle of changing my clothes and the following day as I was in the restroom using the facilities. Very uncomfortable. That evening I came...
I liked this hotel. From there, I could easily go to different places either by walking or using Uber/taxi. The service was great! I loved the staff; they were friendly, helpful, and fast. We had a problem with the bathtub, and they quickly moved us to a new room. I loved the breakfast area on top of the hotel, which offered a great view. I could see the sunrise, the Acropolis, and the overall residential...
Best acropolis view from rooms and smack in the nicer section for market shopping and easy access to restaurants Service was nice. Our AC unit broke and they quickly moved us to another nice room. Breakfast is very nice with superb view of the acropolis. Large lobby with resting area couches etc. Elevators are a bit small but manageable.
Astor Hotel is highly recommended for anyone visiting Athens. Its central location, close to numerous restaurants and the iconic Syntagma Square, makes it an ideal base for exploring the city. The area is lively, adding to the overall charm of the stay. The staff were incredibly friendly, pleasant, and kind, always willing to help. Although the room felt a bit small, it more than made up for it with...
Great location in Athens. Only stayed for one night, room was comfortable with air conditioning. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of delicious food and drink to choose from. Great view of the Acropolis while eating.
I gave it a 3 star. We stayed here 2 separate times within 2 weeks. The first time rooms were excellent! Great size, views etc. 2nd time small rooms lots of issues. They finally changed my room. Friends had same issues. So luck of the draw.
the hotel near the center few minots from the main squere, its close to all the shopping and resturants area very clean room was nice
