Athenaeum Intercontinental, an IHG Hotel, Athens1 / 26

Athens, 89-93 Syngrou Avenue 🧭 Map
Such a beautiful hotel. If youre on the top floors with a suite, you get an AMAZING large LARGE balcony with a view of the Acropolis. Also some of the most friendly warm and extremely beautiful/attractive staff/guests as well. This place is high class indeed and welcomes travelers from all over. Its close to the city center as well with lots to see and do around the area.
This well-known hotel features modern rooms with a well-stocked minibar—definitely a pleasant surprise compared to the empty minibar at the Intercontinental Vienna. If your budget allows, I highly recommend choosing a room with a view of the Acropolis; the sight of this ancient landmark in the distance is truly breathtaking. However, be aware that your view might be slightly obstructed by some odd...
I’m an IHG loyalist. I can tell you the difference between the breakfast buffet at the Intercontinental hotels in Rome and Athens (sheeps milk yogurt vs honey in the comb) and quality is a hallmark of the experience. It’s a luxury hotel. That’s what you are paying for. The locations, the ambiance, and the service. Generally, everything is as close to perfect as one can get. We checked in last night...
Had a great stay at this hotel while visiting Athens, the location is ideal for exploring the city center and Acropolis using the nearby trams, buses, or metro. Staff were courteous and extremely helpful. They always went out of their way to be friendly and welcoming. Although the immediate surroundings look a bit dire the view from the rooftop restaurant and bar was absolutely stunning and more than...
My wife and I just stayed here for two nights. This is a fantastic Hotel with outstanding service. It was located perfectly for us and what we wanted to see. Today was our last day there. We left our bags with the doorman, as we were going to an island for the day and were going to return in the afternoon to collect our bags as we were heading to the airport this afternoon. When the taxi dropped us...
Stayed at this InterContinental in Athens and enjoyed it a lot. Great location, luxurious all around, and with decent amenities. The rooms were nice and large, well-maintained, and cozy to return to after spending time in Athens! Also a great location within Athens; close taxi ride to all the icons in the city. However, when we were checking in, one of the front desk ladies wasn’t all too understanding...

This hotel has great service, staff and rooms. Breakfast is excellent and the staff is helpful and friendly. Great location with supermarkets and cafes nearby. The hotel is on a main road that leads to everywhere important in Athens and it’s safe at night. There’s a bus station in front of the hotel. The only small inconvenience is that the metro station is like 8 minutes away but the walk to the station...
Upon entry we thought the decor was lovely, service was great as well. However the rooms are average The walls are thin, found it very noisy from hallway noise. Access to the pool was blocked by furniture and you had to look frustrated walking around the restaurant to get outside. Just ridiculous. We ate at the restaurant and food was good, serving size was on the small side. The service was terrible...
Unfortunately we paid quite a high price to be told upon checking in we would have an ‘old’ room- these rooms aren’t up to standard as what’s shown in the booking photos. The unrenovated rooms aren’t sound proof, and no view. Breakfast is okay, not a standout. Great bakery just across the road with a huge variety. We weren’t disturbed by anything during our stay, but will likely stay somewhere closer...
It is one of the cleanest and most orderly hotels I have ever seen. This cleanliness is equal to the cleanliness standard of Japanese hotels. I am impressed with the staff and attentive service. In my opinion, the breakfast is not tasty and not varied. It is also a big mistake that hotel guests have to pay an additional fee for the pool.
Good hotel for business or holidays trip. Staff is nice and every ppl I met spoke a more then fair english language. Morning breakfast is abundant but doesn't excel in quality, I'd say average and anonymous. Rooms are ample and well fitted, bathroom is ample as well. Room service is fast but little flexibility to accept even simple off-menu requests. Nice roof-top restaurant with a view on the city...
I was a little concerned about staying here after reading some of the reviews, but we did not experience any of the negatives that people had written about. Neither did anyone in our large group of more than 30 people. The decor was very nice. The rooms were updated, very clean and extremely comfortable. The breakfast was much more than your standard complementary hotel breakfast. There had to be...

Apart from the great location and accessibility to the tourist attractions, the service at this hotel was impeccable. Shout out to Kostas at the reception who went above and beyond to help us with our room situation when it didn't meet the expectations from the original booking. Staff generally were all pleasant, friendly and welcoming. The breakfast options were decent and a great view to boot. I...
We stayed at the Stanley at the beginning of our trip to Greece and again at the end when we were back in Athens. Our stay was absolutely amazing. The staff were always friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was absolutely superb. We also did dinner each night at the sweet basil/cloud 9. It was delicious and the staff were some of the best. Overall a pleasant experience. Fantastic rooftop bar and restaurant with great food and stunning views of the acropolis. The service staff were all very friendly and d helpful. The breakfast buffet leaves a bit of room for improvement. The rooms are clean and have a comfy bed and seem to be well soundproofed as I did not hear my neighbors which is often a nuisance in some other hotels. Would stay there...
From reading some of these reviews a week before I arrived I thought I was going to be staying in the worst hotel on earth, the reality was very much the opposite. The room was a really decent size for a European city hotel! The bathroom was fine, some room for improvement in that area but perfectly adequate! The reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the breakfast buffet was also very...
The amenity space on the rooftop is the best feature of this hotel. The pool area is really large and very nice. It's very busy so it's not easy getting a spot to sit but it's worth the effort. The free breakfast on the rooftop is also very good. Very good selection of food and the views are amazing. The rooms themselves are dated and the bathrooms are so extremely small. One would expect a more luxury...
We stayed here for 1 night, the rooftop was the best part! Panoramic views of Athens and the Acropolis. Service was very slow, we ate on the rooftop for lunch and it took over an hour and a half to get our food. However, it was all spectacular in taste. The rooms are subpar. Friendly staff at the front desk recommended a great rental car company that brought the car to the hotel.

I have led multiple groups overseas. This is a fantastic hotel. Centrally located. Excellent food rooms are clean and very comfortable. The rooftop restaurant and bar has an unbelievable view of the Acropolis. Highly recommend.
Even though the hotel is an older one, service was excellent - the staff was very attentive and friendly. Breakfast and coffee were excellent and the rooftop view was a fabulous one. The elevators are busy in the morning as can be the breakfast bar at around 8 so get to there early!
The hotel location was awesome. The view from.the top floor restaurant was amazing. The breakfast was expansive and delicious. The front entrance is elegant but our room was run down. We had a window that was covered so really did not see daylight until we ventured out. Bed was horrible and shower was challenging.
Reasonably good hotel overall despite some old outlooks and slowness — your elevator in the peak morning hours can easily take 5 minutes to come. The staffs are helpful and friendly and the breakfast area is simply fantastic. The location is pretty awesome. It would’ve been lovely if the room keeping service included the water refill, especially when we stayed for four consecutive nights.
Needs Customer Service Training! The restaurant Maître d' in the evening is abrasive and curt. I had drinks at the bar during the day and enjoyed the rooftop patio views but when I returned later that evening to get some nighttime photos, I was informed that I was not able to access the patio unless I purchased food or drink despite being a paying hotel guest. Overall, the hotel is mediocre and nothing...
This hotel has implemented a new policy where paying hotel guests are not allowed to access the rooftop patio unless they are consuming food from the restaurant or bar. We were told that it is upsetting to those dining at the restaurant for non-diners to enjoy the rooftop. After requesting to speak to management, it was explained that this is their new policy. Additionally, half the rooftop is roped...
The breakfast was very good and plentiful with lot of choices for kind of guests. The Food was fresh and tasty. The Front desk were very good and polite and attentive with all the guests. The house keeping was very good and had all the clean bedsheets and towels and all amenities were in plentiful. The room was cleaned everyday.

This is a great value conveniently located hotel in Athens beside the Omonia metro station. A smart rooftop pool and bar area, good breakfast and above all friendly staff. I must commend one of the reception staff who went above and beyond in his interactions with us.
A great location in middle of Athens near the Omonoia square. Room service was always good, hotel service “reception” was great too except the time when we arrived they were ok making a silly assumption. There is a pool “not a swimming one” and a bar with a great view. You can have a cocktail while sun bathing. Will stay there again when I come back
Perfect location, to all attractions. Lots of taxi choices or 2 stops on metro. Really easy. Can get a 5 day metro card for 8 euros. Staff amazing and friendly. Food perfect and hotel really clean and perfect decoration for a city break. If there was one negative- we stayed when it was extremely hot. Only 4/5 umbrella available which meant a lot of sunbeds/ seats in direct sun. So it was a race in...
Amazing hotel, they do think of everything! Perfectly located, extremely modern, clean, amazing decor and scent. Super rooftop bar with pool and jacuzzi looking over the Acropolis. Had a wonderful stay over Easter. Great location with transport links, local shops and eateries. Roof terrace is lovely with amazing views across the city. Something for everyone. All the staff are truly lovely...
We visited Brown Lighthouse in September 2023 and really enjoyed our stay! The food was really good from the hotel restaurents and the breakfast was good too! There were a few things, service wise, that we were not happy about - like having to ask for our...
The hotel is just across the street from the subway red line , three stops from the acropolis and at 1.20euro one way per person. The hop on and off bus was there as well . The breakfast was included with the room cost and was fantastic ! The view of the acropolis at night is not to be missed . The staff exceptional, the room European . Great stay all around. Very close to the stop for the red go on go off bus. Everywhere we needed to go was within walking distance. We only ate breakfast in the hotel. The standard was very high. Such an array of choices, definitely recommend it.
The view from the balcony... there is no view. It's worthless to paid additional for balcony. The view is of an empty building and you can't see the sun. The lights on the balcony are on until about midnight The room is dark, but it's personal preferences
The location of the hotel is excellent, we were afraid of all the warnings about homeless people and the danger of walking around the square, there is no problem, even late at night the square is crowded with tourists and there is no danger, regarding homeless people, we saw them everywhere. Handled any problem quickly and efficiently

Arrived in late evening of November 25, had a confirmation of my overnight stay, they could not find my reservation. They eventually found my reservation, asked for a 3am wake up call for an early flight out of Athens Airport, only for receptionist to ring my room at 3:26 am, to inform my Suttle bus was due to leave at 3:30 am. I kindly asked him to keep bus waiting for me, and asked him why he...
For one night stop over maybe two nights it is an ideal spot. They don’t serve lunch or dinner and one has to go to the restaurants outside or to the hotel next-door to get food. However, their breakfast is well above average. I would definitely stay there again and I will
Exceeded our expectations! A much better and more affordable option than the Sofitel. While it’s not within walking distance from the terminal, the hourly shuttle bus makes up for it. The staff were friendly and patient, and the rooms are spacious—perfect for families on a short layover. However, if your layover is during the day, don’t expect many activities to keep the kids entertained. The breakfast...
Good location for a layover—if you plan to stay longer you’ll need a car or be prepared for taxis or public transportation. Only one food option around (within hotel) otherwise. Staff were friendly and there’s reliable wifi and comfy beds (despite the sheets not completely covering the bed). The problem was the room, mainly the soundproofing or lack thereof. I was woken up by the sound of a full...
Very nice hotel if you want something close and calm near the airport go here. Only downside is that it is kind of in the middle of nowhere so if you want to get food only thing to get is at the gas station. If you like quiet go here.

Went for a conference, place was roomy and well organized, although a bit chilly. Food was also more than decent. Overall quiet and in a central location.
Perfect hotel for a business trip. Maintains all the typical western style hotel standards. Breakfast had tons of options. The staff was outstanding! Any requests we had they made it happen. Bit of a rough neighborhood but there is free parking if you have a rental car.
overall, it was a mixed experience. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the service from the staff was excellent. However, the breakfast was a major letdown. I had a good stay in this hotel, also because I got upgraded to a suite. This room was slightly outdated, but spacious, clean and the bed was good. Rooms are OK, but quite basic. AC and wifi work well. Buffet breakfast was good with a good selection. Also not too much noise from outside or street. Main advantage of this hotel which is not in a touristic area of Athens, is the location: some 15 min walk to Liosion bus station. One point that needs improvement: we only found one outlet, to which the fridge is connected … Anyway a good value for...
they don't provide hotel slippers! if you planning to stay dont forget yours. Breakfast is not the best for greece but good enough. There is a supermarket just across the street for your needs. I should add that if the breakfast staff take it easy...
I stayed at this hotel while visiting Athens for 4 nights. Good hotel option, not too far from central Athens There is a good breakfast at the hotel along with fast and free WiFi internet. It is a hotel that does not have many advantages except that it is centrally located and has transportation advantages. The breakfast is not bad, at least there are a few varieties. The rooms are a bit old and need to be renovated, but the cleanliness is sufficient. It is suitable for one or two day stays.
The location is fantastic! It is 5minutes walk from the subway station. The room and the bathroom is nice and clean! The walls of the room have absolutely no sound insulation... So if you have good earplugs: than this is a great place to stay, good value for money!

Everything is quite above average except location is off the tourist area. The room is quite spacious which is a plus. However, It will take 20 min taxi (10 Euro) to reach the Plaka area. There's not much shopping or restaurant choices nearby. ...After reading the hotel feedback on my post, I apologize for my wrong perception that the hotel is not in city center.
Comfortable, relatively inexpensive, half hour walk from Syntagma Square. Slightly faded/well-worn feel to the place e.g. room key cards needed replacing 3 times in 48 hours. Pool on top excellent facility. Extremely dull, central casting breakfast buffet - more fuel than delicious!
The Athens Zafolia hotel was chosen by my tour group. The hotel is located in the heart of Athens. Very easy to get to all major areas of interest. Dining easy to find, and the staff was very accommodating. We had a few doorman to help with our luggage. When we needed directions, the desk staff was very helpful, and provided a map. 40 euros from Airport to this hotel on the outer rim of the city perimeter. No doorman to help with luggage - reception was perfunctory. Room neat enough but dusty floor. Don’t try dinner at the restaurant where waiters sneer at anyone not understanding Greek & joke with...
Clean comfortable room.Lady at front desk went above and beyond to help us .She made a phone call for us to make arrangements for a test we required. She wrote down place and talked with the taxi driver to make sure he knew where to drive us to.It all went smoothly thanks to her.We have never had such friendly, caring, concern from a front desk person in all our travels.
We did a bus tour of Greece, started here and ended here. After staying in many other hotels along the way, we looked forward to returning to Zafolia. By far the best hotel we stayed in during our time in Greece. If we did a return trip to Athens, we would definitely stay here. *This review is only for the restaurant* We dinned there after a wedding ceremony. The prepared menu was neatly cooked and all the varieties of meat tasted great. Stayed for 7 nights. Great location, it is a short walk to the metro, most attractions / shops / restaurants that you want to go to are within walking distance. Breakfast spread is great. Gym is small but i don’t assume anyone is in Athens for the gym. Housekeeping is adequate. The view of Acropolis from the roof top bar is great and i am surprised not as many people are aware - definitely enjoy...
Loved the hotel. Very good location, close to tourist attractions as well as the metro. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast had a lot of choices and the food quality was great! The room was clean and modern (a bit small though + the view wasn’t great, which is expected due to it’s location). I saw a comment here about the AC temperature - in my case, it was working perfectly fine and...
The hotel does not let you set the temperature of the air conditioning in the room. It is set to 27c (80.6f) degrees! Other than the hot rooms, the hotel is very nice with modern touches. The breakfast in the morning is great. There is some street and bar noise outside at night due to the location.
The location is perfect. I was easily able to walk everywhere I wanted with most points of interest less than 30 min away. It was quiet at night allowing me to sleep, I did have an inner room. My room was right in front of elevators and that sound in the mornings does come through easily. Breakfast had a variety of food and drinks. The staff were friendly and quickly replied to any questions I...
The good - location was excellent and the 7th floor sky bar makes this hotel worth staying at. The rooms are dated and sparse, the thermostats are locked, and we had to wait over an hour after check-in time for our room to be ready. Overall not a horrible place but a little disappointed with the experience. You can't beat the location and the bar on top which was a five star experience.

We were there for a total of 9 nights, the last of which was 10-16 Sep. Room 807 and 3-6 Sep 809. Amazing location . Check in staff was exemplary Aggeliki perfect face of Electra, warm and welcoming. Breakfast was everything and more service at the breakfast buffet was spot on Costi looked after our Greek coffee every morning.
Prior to booking, I checked the reviews to Electra and found many unsatisfactory reviews. After having stayed there for 6 nights, I can leave this review and say that this hotel deserves 5 stars! The staff were accommodating and friendly from beginning to end, helping me and my family navigate the city and even offering us complimentary to-go breakfast on our last day because out flight left earlier...
Small, but clean and quiet room. Helpful desk staff, Good breakfast with a great view of acropolis. Less than 5 minute walk to metro station. Easy access to hop on, hop off busses. Plenty of dining and shopping options in area.
Great location for walking, good food, beautiful view of the acropolis from the restaurant. Spacious suite, comfortable bed, and good air conditioning. The only thing to keep in mind, is it is on a busy street, so there is a lot of noise, especially on the weekends. But would stay again.
The staff was very nice and accommodating. My only complaint is that after traveling all night and day to arrive we were woken at 10:30 PM to give us a gift from our travel agent. It was a little jarring to be sound asleep and have some one call and then insist on bringing a tray of dessert and a bottle of wine into the room. Earlier in the evening would have been much preferred.
Absolutely delightful. The whole team was friendly and helpful. The room was small but very comfortable and the air conditioning was top notch. The bathroom was spotlessly clean, and the free water a very nice touch. The views from the top floor bar are exceptional. All in all a fantastic stay.

Perfect spot. Everything is close enough to walk to and if you need to spend some time in the evening and don’t know what to do the park right across the street is so nice. The dinner here is so good, and the service as well. Showers are very small🫠🫣
Great location, near shopping and touristic areas. The service is exceptional, professional and efficient. We found the room to be a bit small but it was comfortable, quiet and modern. The roof top restaurant with a view on the acropolis was excellent. They accommodated to our needs and the staff was very helpful. This helps relax and take in the atmosphere of Athens.
3 stars, definitely not 4. I don't know if they have renovated rooms but mine was extremely outdated with old, stained carpets. Bed was a little worn down but not HORRIBLE. Very convenient location to shops and restaurants. Right across a nice park
Such warm hospitality! One of the best experiences I’ve had with a hotel EVER. The location is very much central and the crew is initiative, friendly and caring. If you see Andreas you know you’re in good hands!
We are currently staying at the Amalia Hotel in Athens Greece. This hotel is wonderful. All the staff have been so helpful and nice. Location is in the Plaka neighborhood. So close to the best shopping area and historic sites. The Whisper rooftop restaurant bar has great prices, view of the Acropolis and staff. Air conditioned, clean room and mini fridge. Great price! Don’t over look this one!
Very attentive staff at this conveniently located hotel. The room was well laid out and the AC was very effective against the 44C heat outside. Breakfast was extensive and the service was great. Convenient for the Metro to and from the airport as well. Very good
close syntagma square and subway station very good breakfast with fresh ingredients very comfortable bed with well appointed rest room the room was thoroughly cleaned prior to our check in superb staff. They got us checked in early and were helpful in every interaction

Nice hotel, very close to the beach in order to swim easily. The hotel is well organized. Good breakfast which includes everything. The room is clean and the bed is comfortable. Very good service from the personnel.
Good location close to then beach rooms are decently sized breakfast was very limited but acceptable. My main issues were : 1 - walls are paper thin you can hear everything in the corridors it’s annoying I didn’t get good sleep at all there was always someone talking loudly or kids running and screaming. 2- there was no laundry service , apparently the laundry they deal with is on vacation? 3 ...
We have stayed here for four nights during round-trip through Greece. The staff is very nice, they always trying to help. Rooms are clean, including the bathroom. Nice swimming pool, with free towels. The breakfast is more than good, everything is available, great coffee. Nice cosy bar, with kind bar staff.
This hotel is clean, bright, and close to the beach. But the rooms are small and furnished from IKEA. The bathroom is also very small. Breakfast is decent. Location walkable to restaurants. Staff is helpful, but not overly friendly. But the hotel is clean and the lobby is modern.
The hotel is really nice and perfectly located: near the beach and the restaurants The room we had was nice with the view on the sea The breakfast was good too We didn't enjoy any facilities of the hotel because we stayed only 3 nights and spent our time at the beach or at the Vouliagmeni lake but during our stay, the staff has been very helpful and kind and I would love to go back to this hotel
Fifi❤ The best Dog ever. The Maskottchen from the Hotel. The Breakfast very good. The personal very very friendly. The position from the hotel 1A. Just the rooms are a little old. Bud that's OK. All other is perfect. Thank you for the nice days. And thank you for take are Fifi1👍💙💎
