Hotel Ideon

Ideon Hotel is wonderfully located near the old town, making it easy to access all the sights and restaurants nearby. We stayed in a double room with twin beds, which was clean and equipped with air conditioning and a modern pad to control the lights. However, while the room had a water cooker and cups, there were no extras like tea, coffee, or bathroom essentials such as cotton swabs. The view was nice—our room overlooked the pool, and the front of the hotel offers a lovely ocean view.

The staff was friendly and polite, and they helped us book a rental car at a good price. One drawback was the parking situation, as the hotel doesn’t have dedicated parking, so we had to park randomly along the road, which was a bit frustrating. We had breakfast and dinner included in our stay, but with so many dining options nearby, I’d recommend exploring the local restaurants. The buffet was fine, but pretty standard for a hotel.

The biggest downside was the pool. While it was generally well-maintained, there was a noticeable issue with cleanliness around the edges that seemed to persist throughout our stay. Additionally, we found it inconvenient that each time we ordered something, we had to pay immediately, as there was no option to charge it to the room or settle it later. Overall, it’s a nice hotel with good service and a great location, but there are a few things that could be improved.

Location was right in old town and close to restaurants and 15 min walk to the beach. Be aware rooms facing the sea are noisy as the local bars are open late into morning (4am).

Pool fantastic and service terrific. Bar/pool menu reasonably priced. They strictly adhere to the no reserving loungers. Opens at 10 after breakfast is finishing and imagine allows people in rooms facing pool a sleep in!!! A negative was no pool towels provided.

Breakfast was amazing and service by staff first rate. They provided gluten free bread on request.

Room was renovated but note some rooms are in buildings attached to the hotel and there is no lift access but staff are available to help with luggage. The shower was a nuisance as leaked water everywhere. Twin single beds together really small. But views from room fantastic.

Would think hotel more 4 star than 3 and great value for money. Would recommend despite view things mentioned.

I was excited to book this hotel but.....as i write this I'm in the hotel room .... It's about four o'clock in the morning and I can not use the balcony cause the lights are insanely strong...i can not open the door not even for some fresh air.....at eleven o'clock i had asked if somehow they can dim the lights down so that i can sit and enjoy my time before i sleep...but no ....you can not enjoy the balcony at all in the evening... I paid 100 € so that I can not go at all at the balcony in the evening to enjoy my drink....bad thing i paid already for one more day.. i also asked for an iron....it was the tiniest with no steam at all... I was ironing one blouse for 20 minutes.... (The stuff is polite....)

Really great experience staying here for the last 10 days, the staff were all wonderful from reception to bar to breakfast. Our room was spacious and had a very efficient air conditioner which was vital in the hot weather. The included breakfast is a good selection but it would be nice to see a wider range of options or a rotating variety. Very pleased with our stay and hope to stay again in the future!

A centrally located hotel near the Old Town and harbour. Staff friendly and multi lingual. Rooms and service adequate for a hotel of that size and rating. Would recommend to stay. Only parking can be an issue if a car is used.

Just got back yesterday from this lovely hotel. Very clean, everything worked as it should and room serviced daily. Late check out (€30) not possible as hotel fully booked so we used the free shower facilities. Fridge in room super quiet and room for bottles of water that are sold cheaply round the corner in the supermarket. Happy hour gave us the chance to try out some great cocktails in the lovely area out the front of the hotel. Breakfast was same everyday but nicely presented and cooked and included scrambled eggs, ‘bacon’ (not sure exactly as slightly different from uk bacon) tomatoes etc, cereal, toast, fruit and yoghurt. The negatives are that there is not enough sun beds and there’s no beach to go to creating a rush for the beds. The cicadas were something else and so noisy you may just as well have had a motorbike revving up next to you round the pool! There is also no where to park so think twice if you hire a car. Plenty of places nearby to eat but bar food at the ideon isn’t overpriced in my opinion.

A lovely hotel with polite friendly staff. In a superb position in Rethymnon. I only stayed a week but I wish it could have been longer.
