Hotel Botanico San Lazzaro

I wouldn’t rate this a 5 star hotel. I’m happy to splurge on hotels when the experience is worth it but this was not. The one redeeming quality is the location and grounds. There are beautiful gardens and terraces and the pool area is lovely. Though we found the music at the pool to be annoying - a mix of random music that wasn’t very relaxing. The views are amazing and you can easily access the town and walk places (after taking the funicular or lots of stairs, which I didn’t mind but would be a major challenge for anyone who needs easy accessibility). The rooms are aged and were not as clean as I’d expect (mold in the bathrooms, towels with stains, comforter for bed was very old and pilled). Temperature in the room can’t be controlled from the room, you have to call the front desk to ask for adjustments. I woke every night and had to call for adjustments because the temperatures would vary so much. Service was fine but wasn’t as friendly as other places we stayed during our trip through Italy. Food was fine but also not worth the money. I wouldn’t recommend the “nicer” restaurant with tasting menu - we disliked almost every course from our meal there. The more casual cafe had some good a la carte options if you don’t want to go into town. Overall we would have spent less time here had we known what the experience would be, and I would’ve expected to pay about half of what we paid.

It is crazy hard to find the entrance to this hotel. You guys have a great reputation. But please spend extra bucks for a sign or bunner on the street corner to help your guests find an elevator.
Currently there is no guidance from the street side and we followed the google maps. It was wrong. We absolutelly messed up and had to run up stairs to 5th floor on high hills to get to the event.
