The Kuala Lumpur Journal Hotel

I have stayed here a few times in the past and this was always my go-to KL hotel. Unfortunately the standards seem to have slipped, perhaps due to a lack of staffing.

The shower leaked into our bedroom, it was fixed with silicone fairly quickly and we were told not to shower for an hour.

The bar area had a huge influx of guests, which was managed really poorly and we waited 45 minutes for a drink. I eventually asked for a refund as we needed to get to dinner, and the bartender was very rude and refused until his manager came and spoke to me. I understand that it's stressful to be busy, but this isn't an excuse to be rude to guests as I was polite.

Lastly, we asked for a flat sheet as it gets warm in the room, and were bluntly told 'no, we have no spare sheets, the hotel is fully booked'. Not having a single spare sheet in a hotel is definitely an issue.

This hotel otherwise has a nice boutique style to it and the rooms are comfortable and it's right in the city. I hope that management can turn things around because this hotel used to be great.

Hotel itself was overall in a very good spot, walkable to the mall, to nearby stores and food stalls and restaurants. Staff exact for one was absolutely fantastic. The only staff that brought my stay unpleasant was the Indian breakfast buffet worker named suddamah. She was not very hospitable and had a nasty attitude, came up to myself and my family did not say hello or good morning and with a nasty attitude and tone of voice asked for the room number when we already paid for buffet. She kept walking right in front of us when we tried to get our breakfast and getting in the way. Breakfast costs about 6 US dollars, it was fairly alright nothing really stunning or super delicious but for the price not too bad. Includes pool and no jacuzzi or steam room. Room itself is very nice and spacious, however there was a lingering smell coming from the sewer system and the showers smelled like mold making the entire room smell like a wet sock during my stay.
