Hotel 1888 Collection in Singapore

Do not stay here (unless you are on a tight budget and do not want to stay in a hostel for privacy reasons. And even then, I’d recommend a hostel. Some offer private rooms!)

I am only writing this review so nobody has to end up in the same situation as me.

I stayed here for a business trip in the summer of 2017. My boss’ secretary booked it for me. There is a massive disconnect between the photos on their site and the hotel itself. Please do not be fooled.

Complaints:
- when I arrived, both the elevator and escalator were out of service. The “hotel” is not on the ground floor. the staff seem not to care and did not help with my luggage.
- the hallways of the hotel are poorly lit and narrow. If you need anything, the front desk is rarely occupied and service is spotty
- the air outside the rooms have no odor or heaviness. however, they must not circulate the air inside the rooms, as mine smelled damp and unpleasant, and remained like that even with the AC on. The windows are extremely dusty.
- the bed is directly under the AC, and when I turned it on, random black specks fell onto my white sheets.
- the single room (cheapest room) has almost no walking space. The hairdryer attached to the wall stops working randomly.
- I found a used condom wrapper in the bedside table.. ick.
- The hotel guidelines outline punishment for damage to property, but the furniture items in the room were clearly damaged. I raised the issue to the staff to make sure they don’t hold me accountable, but they were aware of the issue and did not care.

Please stay away. Any other hostel I saw on the street looked much nicer.
