My wife and I stayed at Arton hotel ( Tyrwhitt Road) on 8/12/23-10/12/23 .
I am writing to express my profound disappointment and anger regarding my recent stay at your esteemed hotel. I believe that this experience fell far below the standards expected of a "boutique" hotel.
I checked in at 3:10 PM at ARTON Hotel (booked through Agoda) Counter staff Amir’s attitude is eye opener ( please wear your name tag) . Mr Amir processed my registration at his leisurely pace and even struggled to locate my online booking details. I gave my ID and booking number, showed him the confirmation email , he displayed impatiently (why?I am confused ). Eventually, he found the room type I had booked: Superior Queen Room (double). Without passing me the key card . he started sales talk , attempted to HARDSELL me to another supposedly "larger" room, which was practically the same in size, the add on was just with a “loft bed” –up the staircase, we are not comfortable to use the staircase. When I politely declined, his demeanour immediately turned sour, marked by sarcasm and indifference . “‘If that case I only have ONE ROOM LEFT at GROUND FLOOR which is here . He pointed towards the room located just to the right of my shoulder, assigning my wife and me to Room 105, situated right at the corner of the counter, adjacent to the elevator, and marked with a disabled sign outside. Apparently is meant for disabled or elderly . Imagine the extreme noise levels and disturbance as people checked in, used the elevator—this experience was far from the tranquility one would expect. he not only displayed unfriendly behavior but also claimed that the NO availability of room even my arrival was 3.15pm that afternoon. “ you mean no other room available ? How about a room slightly inside ground level ? “ I almost begged him for a change of room but again he displayed very rude manner, triumphant behaviour.
When I asked “are you able to put a note to your colleague tmr to give us other room ,we are here for 2 nights” he responded with a displeased expression: "I am the colleague you're talking about! I work every day! No guarantee we have room exchange ! " This response was shocking and infuriating. I have to accept room 105.
Miracle happened At 8:30 PM, after dinner . when returning to the room with my wife, I discovered that the key for Room 105 couldn't open the door. After a delay of about 10 minutes, I sought help from the night shift staff, Mr. Vasanthan, who promptly arranged a change to Room 314. I feel unfairly treated and angry about this experience. Please respond to my inquiries:
1 On the day of my check-in, Friday the 8th, at 3:30 PM, 6:30 PM, and 8:30 PM, I checked Agoda and other hotel websites more than 10 times, and rooms identical to the one I booked were still available for reservation. I attempted to book the same room each time, and the process went smoothly. This clearly indicates that the hotel was not fully booked, and Amir deliberately misled me. What happened? Did Agoda and other websites make simultaneous mistakes?
2 Does the hotel have the right to force guests to change rooms and charge additional fees? This request to upgrade the room with staircase “loft” , with a charge of $80, is entirely unprofessional and severely infringes on guests' rights.
3. I am puzzled by the conditions under which the hotel assigns Room 105 to guests. Is it only when the hotel is "fully booked"? Why did Amir assign me this room? I am certain that when I arrived at 3 PM that day, the rooms were not fully occupied.
4 Is the hotel intentionally “punishing” guests like me who refuse to upgrade their rooms?intentionally place us at room 105 ?
