Unparalleled Shophouse Charm:
From the moment I stepped into the shophouse hotel, I was immediately captivated by its unique charm. The blend of modern amenities and preserved traditional architecture created a truly inviting and memorable atmosphere. The vibrant colors, intricate details, and tasteful décor provided a visual feast that added to the overall experience.
A Gastronomic Paradise:
One of the standout features of this shophouse hotel was the plethora of top-notch restaurants and bars in its vicinity. Whether I was craving local delicacies, international cuisine, or exotic drinks, I was spoiled for choice. Each establishment offered a distinct dining experience, guaranteeing a delightful culinary journey that catered to every palate.
Enchanting Scents:
One of the most pleasant surprises during my staycation was the delightful scents that permeated the hotel's corridors and common areas. The carefully curated fragrances created a soothing and relaxing ambiance, enhancing the overall experience and leaving a lasting impression. It was truly a feast for the senses.
Unmatched Comfort:
Comfort was of utmost importance during my stay, and this shophouse hotel excelled in providing a truly cozy and luxurious experience. The room I stayed in was spacious, well-appointed, and exuded a sense of tranquility. The plush bedding, soft linens, and thoughtfully chosen amenities made it a haven of relaxation, ensuring a peaceful and rejuvenating stay.
Excellent Location:
Location is key, and this shophouse hotel nailed it. Situated within walking distance of the MRT station, it offered convenient access to various attractions, shopping districts, and entertainment hubs. Exploring the city was a breeze, and I appreciated the seamless connectivity that this hotel provided.
Conclusion:
My experience at this shophouse hotel was nothing short of exceptional. With its distinctive charm, exceptional dining options, delightful scents, comfortable accommodations, and convenient location near the MRT, it truly set the bar high for staycations. I highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone seeking a memorable and enchanting escape from the mundane. Prepare to be swept off your feet by its allure and enjoy a truly unforgettable stay.
The Premier room we got was more spacious than expected. It could fit a comfy chair inside instead of a stool, but it's out on the patio.
The shared kitchen has free sparkling and still water and an automatic espresso machine. Laundry is SG$5 per load and another SG$5 for the dryer. Detergent is provided.
Downsides: there was someone doing loud karaoke one night and the lobby has a really strong fragrance. The windows are sealed shut and have to use the patio door for some fresh air. You occasionally hear rumbling from the nearby MRT.
For physical accessibility, there is an elevator but there is a high step to enter the rooms area and the bathroom.
As for the room is indeed small with good bed and pillows. Toilet space need some get use to after entering. Overall it’s a nice stay to be here. Just don’t exceed your expectations too much.
Due to Covid, do adhere the changes that the hotel may place along the areas.
Pros:
- The location is great, very lively street with lots of good (but pricey) restaurants and bars. MRT and bus stations are also very close by.
- The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful and managed to accommodate a lot of the issues.
Cons:
However, the problems overwhelmingly outweigh the positives. Keep in mind this is supposed to be a 4-star hotel experience.
- As we arrived, the first major problem was that our room was not clean and there was dust and dirt almost everywhere. After I requested a cleaning, the staff did send someone immediately but there were still some dirty spots when they were done. During the entire duration of our stay, the housekeeping staff never bothered to wipe dust off of shelves, tower holders, and the bathroom sliding door. Even though I explicitly said to one member of the housekeeping staff what the problem is, they didn't seem to fully understand so they never properly cleaned the room; therefore we had to do it ourselves or just ignore the dust/dirt. (4-star hotel btw during a covid pandemic)
- Another problem on arrival was that half the charging sockets in the room weren't working. The front desk did call in a technician who came 3-4 days later and fixed the issue.
*DISCLAIMER - IT GETS WORSE*
- Firstly, the rooms have the worst and weirdest showering space. Not only is it tiny but also the showering doors DO NOT fully close (they even have a displayed sign "i do not fully close"). This means that as you shower all the water gets on the toilet and bathroom floor. You have to request a shower curtain from the staff to avoid the issue. We've stayed in 3 different rooms and all showering doors closed at different points as well. Sometimes it went only halfway and sometimes it was almost entirely closed. This makes no sense and even the front desk didn't know why it's made that way (I did ask and they said it was just a design choice).
- Now it gets comical. The reason we stayed in 3 different rooms was because a bird (mynah) went into the vents above our room. How?? I don't know and neither did the front desk. It woke us up and we initially thought it was a rat due to the scratching. They moved us temporarily to the room next door while technicians tried to get the bird. We could still hear the bird as the vent goes through that entire hallway. Ultimately, they failed to catch it and the bird was later on found DEAD... They moved us to a third room in a separate wing of the hotel (different vents)... And you'd imagine it's all over, however, my gf and I hear YET ANOTHER BIRD in the vent above. The front desk initially didn't believe us and we had to lift the detachable vent and TAKE A PICTURE of the bird peeking its head towards us. Thankfully, this one managed to escape by itself (I think)
- This last room was close to the staircase (we were on the second floor) and when we woke up in the morning we kept finding cockroaches (5 in total during our stay, 4 of them were already dead and 1 was alive). Whatever they are spraying the place with its not really killing or preventing the cockroaches from reaching the second floor. Yet again, I need to remind you that this is a 4-star hotel experience... We paid $3,000 for this room with $3,000 security deposit...
- Lastly, the Internet reach is bad, we had maximum two bars and it kept kicking us out of the WiFi as we had to relog twice a day through the website. I had Youtube videos buffering all the time.
