Generator Hamburg
Hamburg, Steintorplatz 3 🧭 Map
The room was clean and tidy and the view from my room was stunning. The staff super friendly. The position of the Generator is the real deal, most of the major attractions are walking distance and thanks to the HPB station the rest of the city is easily accessible. I really liked the self check in and check out and the lockers are really handy and spacious, big enough even for a huge suitcase. I'll...
Exciting place to spent the night and return anytime you wish especially in the night. Very close to Hamburg central Train Station. Nice and Friendly staff. The only thing is that the bathrooms are too small but I still think they deserve 5 star rating.
The Room was a little cold and you don’t have direct access to air conditioning. The Bathroom in the room was super small. In general I give 3.5
Not a bad place to stay for a couple of nights. location is great. but the surrounding streets are a bit dodgy. I haven't have any incidence but people are kinda weird in this area. The room has a small problem since the bathroom is located in the room and in my room the door only locks from inside. so when no one is using the bathroom the door stays open which I find not very comfortable since any...
It's nice to get some rest in very good places. Generator is such a place. Good food, music & space to relax. Plus it's location is perfect.
Not overly many showers available considering the number of beds. Really warm rooms on a hot night. Good friendly staff and the best possible location. Good security too.

It's exactly what you would expect from a hostel: average rooms, average service, average location. The traffic noise can be quite annoying, just like the not functioning lift which is really needed if you have more than 3 floors. Although it's mostly average, it could be a bit cleaner and better organised, the guests has to handle most of the things themselves.
A nice dog friendly hostel. It was cheap, for my dog only 5£ more. The room was a bit cold, they serve drinks and pizza until late night. Helpful staff who fixed us an veterinary appointment :)
Clean and tidy budget accommodation. We had family rooms, double bed and 2 bunks. On suite shower and separate toilet. Close (10 min walk) to Hamburg central railway station. Limited on street parking available.
Not the friendliest staff, at least not in the evening when I checked in. Just handed me a pamphlet and didn't tell me where the elevators were or anything. My view was great. Room was warm. Good place just to sleep. Hard to find the bus that gets you here because of the construction but much easier to get back to central station. Might stay here again. My outlet didn't work very well either.
Nice, simple, clean hotel, close to city center. You can basically walk to the city center from there, no need to take any public transport. Good price!
It was a great location (Quite close to the main train station) and quite comfortable rooms and a good breakfast. Overall it was great!

Can't recommend this place enough! Spent 4 days here and the staff became like friends - Mike, Rebecca, Paul and Lucia, you're absolute legends. The spot has awesome vibes, great food, and the bar service is quick and on point. After 3 months on the road, this was exactly what I needed. These guys made my stay ridiculously good, super chill atmosphere the whole time. If you're thinking about booking...
A nice idea, the rooms felt poorly ventilated though. They’re also advertised as sound proof but with speakers - this is absolutely not the case!! We had to tell the people above us to turn their loud music down at night, which they did, but I couldn’t help but think they might not have realised how far the noise travels when it’s being advertised as sound proof. Id probably just stay in a hostel or...
Great concept for a low priced hotel. The cabins are spacious and everything you need for a good night sleep. Bathrooms are great and the lobby area is a nice little social hang out. Very close to the train station too.
As far as pod/capsule hostels go, this one is pretty decent! Almost impossible to sleep through the night uninterrupted, but that's kinda what you get with these sorts of places, so cant fault them necessarily. Friendly enough staff, good standard of cleanliness in rooms. Be aware, this area is pretty terrible... Although you are near(ish) the station, walking around at night does not feel safe, and...
Very nice selection of rooms, very cozy atmosphere. I personally spent a lot of time on the terrace because the weather was great that weekend, but there was a lot of room to spread out and really enjoy the location. The room itself was very cozy, and while snug, fit me and my belongings quite nicely. In addition, they had speakers inside of the room which was a pleasant touch. The upstairs lounge...
I can't recommend this place enough for solo travelers looking to find affordable accommodation in Hamburg. It's incredibly close to the main station, so getting to and from there was incredibly easy and straight forward. There are also numerous good restaurants in the area (I recommend Mafia Bites) and bars too. I've been curious about these kinds of capsule hotels in the past and I have to say,...

Halfway through my stay so far. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable (and don't make too much noise—nice when you're the early bird of the room) and the kitchen is well-equipped. My only two gripes are that the location is a bit out of the way (the street it's on is primarily an office park and residential area, but it is still easy to get into town or to the shops via S-Bahn) and that there...
리셉션 직원이 츤데레이십니다. 말은 굉장히 불친절한데 정작 행동으로는 다 해주셔서 혼란스러웠습니다... The reception person was not so kind. He spoked in not very pleasant way, but he actually helped us a lot. For example, when I was struggling with a coffee machine in kitchen, he approached me and said the machine is not for guests. (Then why is it in the common kitchen without any sign?) But he helped me fix it and made me coffee by himself...
Clean rooms, polite personnel. Laundry service available and a kitchen to share with the other guests.
Nice location even though it's far from city center. A store close by to buy food and the train line 2 min away.
I stayed in different hostels in Hamburg and this one proved to be the best option so far! It is much cleaner, everything is quite new inside. There is always enough safe parking right across the property if it is full inside the frontyard. The restaurant at the property serves only until 1pm, but the breakfast options they have are always fresh, delicious and inexpensive. And the very important...
Clean, modern, lots of useful features, cubicle showers, amazing kitchens, lovely staff. Wanted to stay another night but we've gotta get back on the road!

Great hotel for a weekend when spending a bachelorette party with your best! You can quickly get to any hotspot in Hamburg and have short distances if you work late in the evening. The rooms are modern and clean, everything you need is available. I can only recommend it.
Cleanest room I've ever seen. If you spend a night of partying in the Kiez and party until 7 a.m., the best option is to fall into a comfortable, clean bed for a few hours after a long night of partying.
Great value for money. Very clean and a comfortable bed.

I can only recommend it, we stayed with a friend for one night, the room was clean, the staff super friendly and helpful, the location perfect, in front of the port. You have to climb many stairs to get there but it's worth it, you have such a wonderful view of the port at night, and benches to sit down and enjoy sunset. Also there's a supermarket around the corner. I will come back.
Chose this hostel to spend a night in the city center, away from railway or bus stations. We did not match with this hostel. There were several hidden costs: pay more because you are old, pay 4€ for towels, leave a deposit to use the TV in the lounge, etc. All the facilities are either locked or broken: to use the guest kitchen or laundry you should get a token at the reception; of 3 vending machines...
I stayed one night and happened to get an empty room which was nice. The rooms were clean but there was no soap or anything provided which can be something to keep in mind when booking. Bring soap! The staff was really friendly and they had a bike garage where you could store your bike safely.

Best hostel in Hamburg. Used to stay in grand hostel brands but this one makes it’s really a surprise. Awesome view of Hamburg Port and docks, panoramic of all Hamburg and open terrace, bar at nights and big common area with pool, WiFi, ping pong and more. Every morning free breakfast buffet really good.
Situated at one of the best location nearby the Elbe. The view during night and day from the hostel is quite good. Breakfast has wide variety. Rooms could have been bit bigger.

Friendly stay, huge room, great location. Could have benefitted from a few chairs in the room and maybe a kettle.
Nice funky room and great location. Very accessible and close to amenities. Bathroom was a bit cramped however and bunk bed was very close to the ceiling. Staff were friendly though. Bar downstairs was good fun also.
The room was spacious and clean. Bed was comfortable and the curtain gives you more privacy. But there is literally just one bathroom+shower for the whole floor. So long waiting time. Additionally, no common area to hang out. Not the bast place for a solo traveler like me. Despite this, the location is great.
Located in an amazing area, with so many restaurants nearby and with St Pauli next to you, this hostel was top. Ultra clean, the showers, the bathroom, rooms. The bed and pillows are super comfortable and the room environment is well set up. everything clean, friendly staff, but it's just a hostel.
Clean and comfortable. Looks better on the inside so don't be put off when you turn up. Grocery store right behind it. Plenty of free parking space. Check out time to get your cash deposit back is limited to 10-11am only, which is a nuisance, but they say they will be starting from earlier soon.
Very friendly staff who introduce you to the hostel and facilities when you arrive. Clean room and kitchen area. Separated toilet/bathroom for men and women and looks recently renovated. No noise from neighbouring rooms. Lived here with family of five for two nights when traveling through Germany on winter holiday. Parking included. Recommended!
Very easy and nice communication with the hostel. Although my flight was delayed and I arrived after 11 pm, someone waited for me and welcomed me with a smile. The hostel is has everything you need, the rooms are clean, and it's relatively quiet (unless you are on the street side and hear the people shouting) and it's the perfect location if you want to go out on the Reeperbahn, Hamburg's Red Light District. It's a bit out of downtown so you have to either walk, bike or go on the S Bahn to get to the major sights, but that's all part of being a tourist. Would...
Great location, great rooms (clean, bathroom in each one, outlets, wifi, reading lights), great kitchen. The owner is a bit strange, and generally an older clientele when I was there, but would stay again
Amazing people, pretty convenient location. The staff is really friendly and happy to chat. Rooms are Ok, but the free and clean bedlinen is a huge plus. Also the bar below the hostel is excellent, great value for great prices.
I stumbled across this place by accident and what a gem it turned out to be. It's one of those places that you always hope to find but rarely do. The guys running it are really friendly and there is a true feeling of community between them and the outside streets of St Pauli, reminiscent of the real Hackney Wick. Their home made Mexicana is also the best I've tried. I'll be recommending this to everyone...
This hostel was okay. If it's in your budget and near where you want to stay go for it. The front desk is in the bar so you feel like you're interrupting if you have any questions. There is not much common space, just a kitchen. Barely any space in the rooms aside from the beds (there are lockers though). Also it was really loud all night. People were walking, drinking, singing, yelling in the streets...
Building has some character charm and a nice cafe connected, however it feels rather cramped with many stairs and doors separating different areas. The wifi simply did not work for me, good signal strength but couldn't use the internet at all. No power points near top bunks for charging things. Doors somewhat complicated to open (pull towards you, swipe card, turn knob, push door). Was good value and...

Probably the best price in the city for a hostel. Most of the room are shared. They contain beds, refrigerator and lockers. Bathrooms with showers are located next to the rooms. Available is also a big shared kitchen. Only 10-15 min from the city center with a bus.
I've stayed here last year. Though a little bit far away from the centre, it offers a really nice (and clean) accomodation for a fair price. Also, very nice staff.

A very nice stay, I loved the forniture and such (it's an ex-brothel so it was very peculiar). The staff was friendly but some spoke very little English. It was pretty clean, but our room was a bit smelly. The toilet were few but there weren't a lot of visitors so it was okay. The price was good.
Very kind staff, very special decorated rooms and the atmosphere is just priceless! If you're looking for a hotel that really describes Reeperbahn you should definitely choose this! The hygiene is questionable though.

Great value, fantastic location. The rooms are pretty basic but the bed was comfortable. There was quite a lot of noise from guests moving around the corridors. The bunk bed was also squeaky. Plenty of facilities in the hostel and the interactions with the staff were excellent and friendly. Bring a towel though.
Looked for cheep accommodation during our stay, found this hostel and gave it a try. Nice hostel. Staff was frendly and other guests were also nice and very intetesting. There are guitars and piano in lounge for those who would like to play. There is also a local improv jam in hostel once every two weeks, which I enjoyed. There is nice kitchen which guests can use. Cleanliness was fine. One of two microwaves was dirty.
Nice and clean hostel, WiFi didn't work, There is equipped kitchen, clean bathroom and sheets, No privacy in bathroom - specially toilets - doors with big space above and under.
Great hostel. Sure at night the streets outside get a little noisy but u gotta sleep like log uknow..! The lounge area is great and friendly staff
This hostel was my best hostel experience! Helene is the best hostel manager that i've ever met. I've met with a lot of nice people here. If you expect high standards, it's not for you. But if you want a warm place with warm blooded people, then you'll have a good experience
Hostel itself is pretty good—stayed in the largest room, pretty good. Bathroom & toilet were clean, common area was good. Staff were just ok.
Great location within the Schanzenviertel. Rooms, bathrooms and all other facilities are very clean and comfortable. Beds good for several hours of sleep. If you are sensitive to noise bring some earplugs or use headphones. Great to have tea and coffee for free in the morning.

I cannot say it loudly enough - this hostel has a weird vibe. Like not in a threatening or dangerous kinda way, like its just odd. Its clean enough, the folks that run it are friendly, the rooms, though small, are all OK. Its just weird. In a way I couldn't put my finger on. Not the best review possible but there it is. The price is probably the best around though, so there you go.
Good basic hostel provision. Staff were v helpful and friendly. Beds comfy. The only thing was the noise of the street at night. We had to keep our windows open due to the heat. Traffic, regular emergency service sirens and people yahooing and talking in the street below until 330 am. Get a back room if you can.
We were visiting Hamburg and needed a place to stay for the night, we contacted this place and then went there. It was clean and affordable. We opted for the 8-bed dorm room because it was cheap and also privacy was not a problem for us. You just have to fill a form and pay to get the place. The best hostel I have been in. Its one of the few places where you dont have to be smart. So interesting people come here.
Extremely clean and nice hostel. Also really cheap considering how comfy it was. Only downside I can think of is the location. It was a bit far from the downtown area. Great breakfast and late night snack places right next to the entrance!
Floor wasn't cleaned (trap under my bed), they started drilling at 9am, shower was dirty and the one and only toilet seat was full of ass hair. The location is amazing (Berliner Tor U-bahn entrance 10 meters away from entrance of this Hostel). The bunkbeds are at least 200 cm which was amazing being a tall person, thickness of mattress was fine. We paid €220 with 4 people for 2 nights in March.

Hotel standard hostel. Only downside was the bunk beds who where a bit noisy.
Had a very different experience easiest checkin N checkout ever. Key was in a safe box N had just to drop the keys in checkout box. There was not staff personals and didn't need any. Everything was there. Rooms were nice as a hostel. Carpeted floor.
It's ok, little bit loud, it's far away from center, round it it's just few things to look.. It's located more in industrial area..The elevator it's for now not working,so I must go on the steps 2floor.I wasn't so happy here..But for experience it's ok..I only can say I won't come again
Very good deal for what you pay! Everything was neat, clean, and apparently new. The only thing that was slightly annoying is that internet logs me out every few minutes.
