The Ocean Club, a Luxury Collection Resort, Costa Norte

This hotel is way over-rated. The rooms are overpriced. The location is in the middle of nowhere, so it is impossible to walk anywhere. The neighborhood where the hotel is located is scary, and I would not suggest venturing out.

The hotel It is still under construction, so half the facilities are not opened. The restaurant menu is limited, and food is sub-par.

There is no actual hotel lobby. It's basically a condo operating as a hotel.

Out of business.. good luck getting your money back

BEWARE: Theft by Housekeeping

Be very careful when leaving anything in your hotel room at the Gansevoort. Me and my wife learnt it the hard way. The hotel room is armed with a non-standard safe which is operated by a key and a number pad, but there is no instructions available. Unfortunately, I locked up my valuables first and was unable to open the safe and we were rushing out for our surfing lessons, so I asked my wife to hide her wedding and engagement rings. She left it in the front pocket of her back pack that was left in the living room and we had forgotten about it until it was time to check out. That was when we realized it was missing.

We raised the issue to the front desk and the manager told us they will have a team search for it and question the appropriate housekeeping staff and that they would get back to me. Yet 5 days after our trip and having sent an email to remind them, I have yet to hear back. Two emails to the management of The Gansevoort Group to ask for assistance have yielded no results or response. We did finally receive an email from the COO of the Gansevoort Group after my third email, but the response offered no help, except to tell us that there has been no other incidents of theft at this resort.

My review is to warn guests or future guests of the Gansevoort DM to be very careful and to make sure all valuables are locked up. Clearly the housekeeping staff isn't properly screened and they do go into your bags to look for valuables. The hotel management has also been unwilling to do what is necessary to help us retrieve our stolen valuables, nor to communicate or follow up with us on what they may be doing to help.

Regardless of the theft here is our feedback on the hotel:

Service: The round trip airport transfer was good, and the service was good. However, the hotel staff is ill-equipped in dealing with the situation we faced and offered no help.

Quality of Rooms: Rooms are comfortable and spacious. However, beware of mosquitoes. There are small mosquitoes, and both of us left after a few days with many bites all over.

Restaurant and Food: There is only one restaurant, and the quality of food is mediocre at best and the choices are limited. I would expect far better quality of food at the Gansevoort.

Beach and Pool: The pool area is well maintained and the hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The beach is almost always pounded by strong waves, so it is impossible to get into the ocean.
