Hotel California

Overall very good. Room was small but what we expected and we didn’t spend long in there anyway. It is noisy at night but I was out till late most nights so it didn’t bother me.

Perfect location If you like to party. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 is because the breakfast was very poor. Limited options and the lady was a little rude to us. She has limited English so maybe a loss in translation.

Stayed here pre-cruise. Its within walking distance of the airport bus and cruise terminals bus. Greeted by a genuinely friendly lady who shared information about the hotel/area with a warning about safety around Las Ramblas.

The room was expensive for what it was, but this was Barcelona in the middle of summer. The AC worked well.

5 stars when considering the price I paid. Many positives with a few oddities:

The room was clean, functional and I felt safe. I was staying in a single room, which overlooked the service yard. The room was dark (as expected) however there was very minimal airflow even with the window open all night. The room temperature was perfect and the bed comfortable. I was impressed with the size of the bathroom for a single room.

Check in was smooth, however I was asked to leave the room key with them whenever I left the building for security reasons. It's not something I've been asked to do anywhere I've stayed before, and nobody else has mentioned they've had to do this in their reviews. I complied, after all when you use the electronic key cards elsewhere the staff can see if you are in or out anyway. But it still felt odd, a little child-like? Or that they thought I might be... working...? If it's something that would bother you, check with the hotel before you book. Personally it didn't put me off returning, and saved me the hassle of needing to carry the keys.

Breakfast was a basic affair, with the usual cheese and meats plus toast etc. I've paid well over €10 in other hotels for far worse.

Overall, I'm really glad I chose to stay here and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to stay somewhere central in Barcelona on a smaller budget.

Good central location. Rooms were tidy and cleaned daily. Desk service was very good. Breakfast was continental but very nice. Only slight downside was the noise of people shouting from the street below most nights which isn't the hotels fault. If you're a heavy sleeper, you won't notice.

For an older hotel in the older part of Barcelona it was just plain GREAT. Not fancy but really safe and clean. The staff is extremely experienced and helpful. Great free breakfast too. Perfect? No but nothing is in this world.

Wonderful hotel! We stayed there in May 2023 and absolutely loved it! The room was clean and modern. Room service was proper. Decent breakfast was included. But most importantly, location! It is a bit loud at nights, but the convenience of being in the Gothic quarter beats this inconvenience. Staff is friendly. Thank you for having us!

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights (18/04-20/04), and the best feature of this hotel is the location, right off La Rambla and situated in the middle of the Gothic Quarter, great for sightseeing. The hotel staff were friendly, but when we arrived to check in the receptionist spent a long time on the telephone "sorting out an issue" so we were left waiting for a while. The rooms were comfortable, and very clean. The bathrooms are good. The only improvement would be the breakfast, more variety please - including more fruits, eggs, etc. The toast machine was poor, and the coffee machine did not taste good at all (sadly it tasted like dried milk powder, all at the bottom of the cup) so much so I only had one cup of coffee over 2 days. I would stay here again for the location, it is a nice hotel.
