Reviews
That's everything.
My family stayed in the hotel in July 2024 and our impression is that this is a three star hotel at best!
We booked the hotel a week before arrival, and specified we needed a cot. On arrival, there was no cot in the room and we had to phone them twice about the cot!
We booked a room with sea/pool view and the view really was fantastic until the “kids entertainment” chased us out of the room as there was blaring music until 23:00 and our 8 months old baby could not fall asleep since the music was so loud that it felt the speakers were on our balcony!!
We asked to switch rooms the next morning and the hotel was able to accommodate with a room half facing the ocean.
The food selection was very basic!
The breakfast buffet was the worst! We would get hard boiled eggs with two buns and some cheese. Most of the breakfast was pig sausages, bacon, chocolaty cereal, sugary cereal. No healthy breakfast options at all.
Lunch and dinner had some salad options, chicken, or fish and again loads of pig meat.
The fruit was over ripe and mushy.
This is the only hotel we stayed at where for all meals you have to carry with you a piece of paper to show the room number and I guess the board type (breakfast only, half board, full board) and if you forget it they make you go get it.
One day upon showing the piece of paper, the usher showed us to a table, we sat down, pulled the stroller to the table and while my wife was getting food, a woman approached and asked how many people we had and when I told her just two and a baby, she looked at me annoyed and said in Spanish “at a table for six??”. She quickly went to talk to the man who seated us and they weren’t able to handle the situation but just turned their backs to each other and she said “i don’t care I did not seat anyone”.
The hotel has more than 200 rooms and only two lifts.
The restaurant had very limited capacity, causing on some days, very long queues in the lobby.
The queues for getting an omelette were just as crazy and having people wait for over 20 mins for an omelette.
Vegetarians and or vegans, good luck to you if staying here with full board!!!!
The swimming pool is more a kitty pool than a swimming pool and can fit 20-30 people at best without violating a health code.
There are maybe 12-15 loungers all taken. Although, I must say the hotel has a respectable policy. If the lounger seems abandoned with only your belongings, they pick them up and put them away so people who are actually at the pool can use the loungers. We were unable to ever get loungers to sit due to the limited capacity/availability.
We bought a little flotation donut for our baby and were not allowed to use it in the pool.
The air con in our room was basically obsolete as it mainly blew just air not cool air.
The location of the hotel is AMAZING! Right at the beach and the main promenade which will allow you to enjoy a nice stroll along the beach or the inner part of Salou!
All in all, I would not wholeheartedly recommend the Augustus hotel as a great place to stay in Salou.
They should really consider looking around on how other real 5 star hotels treat their customers. But if there are customers that accept all the above, then good for them. But they really live on their assets. Will never recommend this hotel to anyone.
What I liked: the location is top notch. By the sea and close by shops & restaurants/bars. The hotel does provide a mini club for the kids which is a nice touch. There is also no problem finding sun-beds by the pool which was great. The fact we travelled outside peak season might have helped though the hotel did seem fully booked. They had daily evening shows & mini discos which is good for entertaining the entire family.
What I didn’t like: pool towels aren’t provided. Parking isn’t free and is quite pricey for the location. You also have to pay for the safe key in your room. Food choice whilst different each day was perhaps a bit limited. Some of the staff at the cooking stations had an attitude which was off putting. The evening shows were quite late. For example the mini disco is at 9.30pm when for most young kids, it’s past their bedtime. Lastly and I think this was the most painful was the lack of AC in the room. Because we’re still off season, AC was only available between 12pm-6pm. As a result it was extremely hot during the night and so we had to leave the window open to get a bit of fresh air inside our room. Unfortunately this resulted in a mosquito fiesta and our 4yo was badly bitten during one of the night.
Overall I think despite some of the things I didn’t like, I keep coming to the price and location which I think was really good value for money.
The cramped quadruple room had no seating area and insufficient storage for four people. The shower room was small and smelled of drains. Cleanliness was acceptable but not great. The towels were of poor quality, overused, and old. The wardrobe needed updating. Although the hotel offered satellite TV, there were no English-speaking channels, and the remote control was so dirty that I had to clean it with antibacterial wipes before letting the children use it. I wiped down all surfaces.
The hotel lacked directional signs, making it hard to find our way around without constantly asking for directions, which was difficult as the staff's English was almost non-existent.
The room was hot, with the air conditioning blowing hot air. When we asked reception for help, they told us it was the same throughout the hotel and to open the balcony doors. On the 4th floor, we woke up with numerous mosquito bites.
No beach towels were provided.
The only positive aspect for my family and me was the hotel's location and its proximity to the beach.
Do not stay here if you do not speak Spanish, the struggle was real.
Here's a breakdown of the issues:
Rude Reception: Upon arrival, the receptionist was unhelpful and unfriendly.
Missing Amenities: This supposedly "four-star" hotel had no beach towels available, which is a basic expectation.
Unclean Room: The room was dirty upon check-in, with unclean bedding and ants on the floor. Even no locker available
Expedia's Useless Customer Service: After contacting Expedia regarding these issues, I spent a frustrating three hours getting nowhere. They couldn't reach the hotel or resolve the problems.
Beach Woes: The beach, advertised as relaxing, was overcrowded with vendors and had no available seating despite having umbrellas.
Overrated Hotel: This hotel honestly deserves a zero star rating, not four.
The only positive aspect was the decent lunch and dinner options, but everything else was a huge disappointment.
Unprofessional and Unhelpful: Having to spend my entire vacation contacting Expedia for solutions was unprofessional on both the hotel's and Expedia's part.
Avoid This Hotel and Expedia!
This is my second terrible experience with Expedia. Their customer service is subpar, and I will never use them again.
Please consider this review a warning to potential customers. Look elsewhere for a relaxing holiday!
Food was Delicious. A lot to choose from.
All activity in Spanish it's a pitty bud kids had fun.
Yoga under palm trees in front of the crashing beach waves was one of the most relaxing parts of my holiday. Thank you for your lovely class in such a beautiful hotel.
