Zimbali Playa Spa Hotel Luxury

Initial impression of hotel on arrival was good, nice reception, pool area and gardens, good sized balcony, nice hot shower, the staff at reception were helpful and the other staff were pleasant, but you sometimes struggled to make yourself understood.

The room was not up to the standard of a 4 star hotel in my opinion, we booked a superior room which turned out to be nothing superior, the paintwork was all marked, the facia around the wardrobes was all cracked and the plastic was peeling off badly, surfaces were worn and marked, the one chair inside was stained with tea / coffee and had cigarette burns on it, light fittings had ingrained dirt and the general cleaning was not very good, the maids did come every day but seemed to do the minimum, sand that came in from the beach was still there after they cleaned, the towels were left on the floor to be changed but were just hung back up, they were only changed once during our 10 day stay. We found out from another guest the only difference from a standard to a superior room was you had two double beds pushed together, slippers, dressing gowns and a kettle, don’t waste the extra money as it’s not worth it, you still have to pay extra for the use of the safe.

The bed lining was not changed until day 8, but not the pillow cases as there were small blood stains on the top of one which remained there to the last day, going to the beach each day you can imagine, sand gets in the bedding no matter how carful you are, especially when it’s not swept up off the floor in the room by the maids.

The entertainment was all in Spanish and in the evenings didn't start until 10.30, nothing in English, even the TV had no English channels to watch.

We went half board and the food that should have been hot at breakfast and in the evening was cold to tepid at best, (evening meal did not start until 8pm which is just too late, and if you are half board you don’t even get a glass of water with your evening meal in with the price, you have to pay extra, which is strange as for breakfast you can have orange & pineapple juice, tea, coffee, water and what looked like sparkling wine) the only thing that was hot for breakfast was an omelette as it was cooked fresh, so we just had that in the mornings, we ate out in the evenings as could not stomach the cold food there, there was a lot of choice of food and different tastes catered for, but food that should be kept hot and is cold is just not acceptable. We asked to be downgraded to bed and breakfast and be paid the difference back for the one meal, but the hotel refused.

Babied filled nappies were changed in the dining room in front of us on two occasions, the staff saw this but said and did nothing.

Spanish guests were allowed to take their dogs, who left them on their balconies to bark late of an evening and early hours of the morning keeping you awake, there is nothing on the Jet2 website telling you this when you book the hotel that dogs are allowed, never had it anywhere else I have travelled, love dogs and have nothing against them, they just need to be kept quiet.

They advertise a beach area in front of the hotel but there are no sun beds, so had to walk to some and pay 12 euros for the 2 of us for the day, went out each day as the pool area was very noisy and couldn't relax.

Took my wife for our 40th wedding anniversary, very disappointing after paying over £2000 for 10 days with Jet2, we spoke to some other guests and they were of the same opinion about the food, I will not be returning or recommending this hotel.
