Hôtel Le Marquis by Inwood Hotels in Paris

In a city like Paris, I believe the hotel experience sets the tone for your entire trip. Unfortunately, for us, what should have been a wonderful visit turned into a huge disappointment because of this hotel.

First of all, we booked a room with a city view, but we were given a dark room facing an apartment building with barely any daylight. The room was listed as 15 m², but it definitely did not feel that spacious — it was extremely small. The biggest issue, however, was that the air conditioning didn’t work. Even though we set it to 28°C, it kept blowing cold air. We reported the problem to the reception multiple times, but they kept brushing it off, insisting that the unit was heating. We even had a staff member come up to the room and try to convince us it was working — until they felt the freezing air themselves and admitted it wasn’t. They told us a technician would come “within 1.5 hours,” but no one ever showed up.

We asked to change rooms, but our request was refused. In the end, we had to ask for an old-fashioned oil radiator just to stay warm — yes, in 2025, in the heart of Paris, we were heating our room with a radiator.

The man at the front desk was far from helpful and showed no effort to find a solution. I’m giving two stars only for the hotel’s location; everything else was truly disappointing.

The staff here was incredibly rude the entirety of my stay besides maybe a couple of people. I don’t know if it’s because I’m Asian-American or what, and I hate to pull the race card- but I felt disrespected way too many times to not leave this review. My experience in France in general was met with a lot of disrespect, which was sad and off-putting. I traveled solo across Europe and no country treated me as badly as France did. The concierge in particular, the younger women, were extremely terrible. I asked for help with the metro, dinner reservations, and was met with mean girl attitude. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone, even my Caucasian friends who I’m sure would’ve been treated way better than me. The room itself was very spacious for what I would’ve expected in a European hotel room. The neighborhood was safe and convenient. But overall, to have received such a terrible customer service experience- the only ones who were nice were the breakfast guy with the tattoos and the night time male concierge; I would never recommend this place. Take yourself and your hard earned money to a place that is friendly to ALL and actually strives to make people have a good impression of Paris and its people- this place was NOT it.
