Reviews
Compared to the other 2 Best Western and 1 Marriott hotels that I stayed at Genova, the Porto Antico was average (3 stars).
The room was better than the Metropoli but worse than the AC Hotel. Compared to the Moderno Verdi, Porto Antico was larger but the Moderno Verdi seemed more modern and cleaner.
The room had a decent amount of space. The red walls looked dated but at least they tried to make the room look nice, though the old age of the building showed. The room seemed cleaned enough but I would not be surprised if there were less obvious issues that would warrant a 2 star rating instead. Also the desk space was very limited. Being along a street in a busy downtown area, you will likely hear typical street sounds and noises, so I wouldn't consider the Porto Antico to be very "quiet." The internet worked fine.
The elevator was very small but that was also the case with the two other Best Westerns that I stayed at in Genoa.
The staff was friendly and very helpful (contrary to some of the negative reviews). A few days before I was actually staying at the Porto Antico, I was visiting the aquarium before a short trip to Milan. It was raining heavily and I needed somewhere to temporarily stash my luggage. The front desk was very accommodating and let me keep my luggage there for a few hours even though I wasn't staying there until later in the week. This was definitely appreciated.
The Porto Antico is in a good location if you want to see a lot of tourist attractions. It is extremely close to the aquarium and the Maritime Museum, and is also in close walking distances to many other museums. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. It is pretty close to the Darsena metro station.
I liked the Best Western Moderno Verdi slightly better. The rooms were nicer (though smaller) and I thought Moderno Verdi's location near Brignole station was actually better than Porto Antico's location even though the latter is near more of the downtown action. I do think the Porto Antico is significantly better than the Metropoli (which is cheaper). And though the AC Hotel has better rooms than the Porto Antico, the Porto Antico has much better service and a better location. So ultimately I would place the Porto Antico as a solid second among the 4 Genoa hotels I stayed at.
Overall my short stay was positive. The hotel was average but the staff stood out for being exceptionally helpful.
Rooms are nice and pretty good size
Michele at the front desk was Amazing!
Highly recommended!
Very nice hotel with comfortable but small rooms. The staff is friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast is excellent. I was traveling on my own and had trouble finding the hotel tucked away in a narrow street but you won't find a better location near the old port for the price. With elevator access, my small room was dominated by a too-large bed but was comfortable and had all the amenities I wanted. I would stay here again and I recommend it without reservation.
The room was all red which was weird and a bit old. The bathroom was stunning though. other than that the breakfast is great for 4€ per person and the staff were friendly.
This is a good hotel and the service is excellent
- 1 minute to Porto Antico
- 2 minutes to via Garibaldi
Breakfast could be more rich in vegetables. It had none.
