Reviews
I am incredibly concerned about the quality of my stay next week and the service this “5-star” hotel can provide. 5-star includes the service, and this was potentially the worst in all of my abundant travels.
Anyway, the staff were friendly enough, though slow, upon check-in.
But not very helpful when they informed me that the hotel gym was closed due to service work (no idea why the hotel profile on Expedia showed photos of a fitness room). No compensation offered for this misdemeanour.
The room was large - nice enough (except for the blocked shower drain, broken shower door and lack of lighting - upon checkout, when I mentioned how difficult it was to use the shower, the receptionist just said "I'll let maintenance know" - well done, you!). For a five-star hotel, I'm surprised the phones were down the night I stayed. And there is no laundry service. I couldn't wait to check out.
Other basics missing in the room were a door viewer, a tissue box and a plug next to the bed (unless you unplugged the lamp, and trust me, you need that tiny light in the dimly lit room!).
Two stars given for the spacious room + proximity to the Metro station + Leaning Tower. Would I come back?
Based on service and false advertising, probably not.
I wouldn’t say the hotel is 5 ⭐️. Maybe once upon a time as the public areas do look really nice. Our room was big and we had wonderful views of the town centre and tower. I would say for the money we paid it was good value.
Pros:
large hotel with excellent pool area
Good and varied breakfast with a nice choice of cold Italian meats, breads and fresh orange juice
Friendly staff, mainly the pool bar team and some receptionists
Decent location - 15/20 mins walk to town and there are also nice restaurants in the nearby area
Pool bar food is really good quality and we enjoyed the Prosecco at a great price
Nice big bath towels in room
Cons:
The coffee machines!!! It was a chore trying to get a coffee either in or room or at breakfast. We gave up with the in room one and you had to stand over it and press for hot water every few seconds. Even if we wanted one the next day we couldn’t anyway as housekeeping never replaced the pods again. As for the breakfast coffee machine…it’s a simple fix that no one wants to be bothered with. There’s only 1 for a start and it constantly needs attention. The staff just don’t seem to want to bother with the constantly perplexed guests who always seem to have an issue with it. The biggest one being the cappuccino option does not work. A simple sign saying ‘don’t select cappuccino’ would solve many issues. The poor lady working the breakfast shift is busy enough without this. She seems to do everything while the boys stand around waiting on instruction from her. She even has to tell them to clear the tables 🙈
Housekeeping not up to standard. Dirty corners and dust in our room and outside corridor floors were filthy. Took our bathrobes and never replaced them or the coffee.
Strange experience from some staff. They would be friendly and helpful depending on their mood. The concierge on arrival is the only one I’ve ever experienced who doesn’t help the guests with their luggage and never bothered to tell us how to work the door lock. He only came to show us how to work the electric curtains because he was told to. Simply can’t be bothered to do his job.
The location for the hotel is good, 15-20 minute walk to the leaning tower of Pisa. The walk passes through a sad, dark, tunnel though.
This hotel is five stars, which brought up my expectations a lot, I see the potential but everything feels torn and not maintained.
The door handle comes of the door when closing, cracked plastic and bad caulk work on sockets and joints.
They provided towels, hygiene products for shower which was nice but no robe.
The rooms had nice TV, spacious rooms, good WiFi, mini-bar and safes which was all nice features. The breakfast was okay.
I would visit again if I come to Pisa, but keep your expectations down regarding the rating.
