Novotel Salerno Est Arechi

The hotel is “ok”. Not cheap, and rooms relatively old, but comfortable. The location is good and close to a beach club, but not close to the ferry port. The reason for my 2 stars was really the service. The guy that checked us in was really nice and kind, and most of the front desk staff was fine. When we checked out, we asked them to hold our bags since we were going to beach (we checked out at 10am and would come back around 3pm)… on our way back to pick it up we bought sandwiches for the kids. Well, they ended up denying us to seat on the open restaurant or outside area “with food that was not from the hotel”, and said we could only consume food from their restaurant or go back and eat in the room, but they were not serving anything. We also couldn't go back to our room since we had checked out early. Anyway, I thought was pretty sad to deny a 9 year old and a 4 year old to eat a McDonald’s while I was loading the luggage in the car… pretty lame from their staff.

Advertised as having air conditioning, NOT True after certain date, false advertising, would not have stayed here if I had known this. Stayed for a week in November, room was hot, had to open window which had no screen allowing bugs/ mosquitoes to get in. Opening window also let in noise from guests arriving at late hours. Had quite a bit of rain, so we had to close the window... we have travelled to many countries. love Italy but this was the worst experience we have ever had due to the discomfort of the room. Discussed with front desk, but there was nothing they could do due to outdated central heat/cool system. DO NOT STAY HERE, there are better alternatives, both my wife and I ended up with several bug bites, not sure if it was bed bugs or the open window

Okay room, not a 4-star hotel and worth the price paid. Bathrooms are terrible, shower doesn’t have half cover and water comes out making floor all wet.
Location is far from the main tourist areas too.

Hotel room is ok. But no beaches are close to the hotel. Hotel service is very poor. Did not want to cancel a double booking. Just looking to make money. No help at all.

Our room was infested with rats...
We had one of the worst hotel experiences at Novotel in Salerno. The hotel is very dated and about 15 min outside the city by car.
problem #1 - handicap room given when regular room was requested. The shower head was only 3 ft high and could not be adjusted so you had to kneel on your knees to wash your torso or head
problem #2 - safe broken
problem #3 - AC was not working. There was an attempt to fix it, but it broke again after 10 minutes. We were moved to another handicap room despite our requests not to be in one.
problem #4 - At night while getting read for bed, WE SAW TWO RATS IN THE ROOM! The hotel employee who covered the night shift, came up and saw the rat himself, and moved us to a different standard room.
problem #5 - My parents also heard scratching and gnawing in their room, and they had to be moved at 1:30am.
The last thing we wanted to do was to repack all our bags, deal with a rat infestation, and move hotel rooms for a third time at 1:30am. We were both traumatized and got no sleep that night.
problem #6 - hotel room door malfunctioned and we could not get into our room for 40 minutes
The manager, never made any contact with us, and I had to specifically request to speak with him via email and staff, which is absolutely inexcusable given our experiences. Our experience was absolutely traumatizing, and the response of the hotel was horrible/non-existent. Only after placing a formal complaint with Novotel, all we were offered was a meal at their restaurant. Given the infestation, we obviously declined.

This hotel SUCKS and is not on par with Novotel standards.
- the safe is broken
- the windows don’t close properly
- the AC isn’t working well
- the “gym” has 3 machines, one broken.
- they can’t deliver anything to your room, you must come pick it up

It’s also quite far from Salerno city center, if you’re looking to visit the Amalfi coast from there, I’d recommend staying near Salerno Central.

However, I must mention that all the staff at the reception is extremely friendly.
