Reviews
They take cleaning seriously, which is always welcomed in a shared space. Some of their towels are note in the best shape (do with that as you will).
The common areas are great to relax in and socialise, or if you’re an introvert like me - just people gaze. The complimentary breakfast is good- boiled eggs, toast, jam, salad, fruits, orange juice, coffee or cocoa and a cooked meal which changed every day. There is free bottled water, and a coffee station.
The location is ideal for sightseeing, many spas, massages, shops and restaurants on the same street or within walking distance. They also have interactive activities you can take part.
Only flaw, when I informed reception of my money being stolen, I was only offered an apology, no assistance of any sort to look through the cameras or assist me in anyway. It really didn’t phase them. My advice be sure to bring a padlock to lock your bedside pigeonhole (I didn’t lock mine, rookie move yes I know).
The Common Hostel is located inside the Old City where temples are mostly located. Check-In and Check-out were smooth, and the hotel staff were friendly and accomodating. Room was simple, spacious and clean. There's good airconditioning, refillable water bottles, free breakfast, and fast Wi-Fi. I stayed in the fourth place, and it was very quiet. It's affordable for its prime location (walking distance to a 7-Eleven and the Chang Phuak Market). It's easy also to book a Grab in this location.
I highly recommend this place if you want to go cheap for a business trip rather than those hotels in outside the Walled City. I booked a solo bedroom with a King-size bed and a private bathroom.
I absolutely loved my stay at The Common Hostel! The place is clean, stylish, and cozy — perfect for both relaxing and meeting other travelers. The location is also fantastic, right in the heart of Chiang Mai’s old town with easy access to cafes, temples, and walking streets.
What really stood out to me was the breakfast — it’s amazing! Fresh, delicious, and thoughtfully prepared. It felt like such a treat every morning.
The staff were also super friendly and helpful, making me feel right at home from the moment I arrived. I’d definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Chiang Mai!
Free breakfast is simple and nice. And they have free bottled water in the lobby too.
Pros
- The common areas are spacious, with good internet, charging spots, free tea and coffee, and plenty of tables and chairs.
- The social atmosphere is quite nice.
- The dorm rooms are large, with enough floor space for a lot of luggage.
- The bathrooms and toilets are clean.
- There is laundry service nearby, at 60/kg for washing and drying.
- The location is very convenient, with a 7-Eleven right next door.
- There is a ping pong table and a fridge for storing personal food.
- The beds are very soft.
Cons
- Many people smoke in the common areas, even though there are no-smoking signs. I don't understand why so many people smoke marijuana there.
- The number of bathrooms and toilets is not sufficient compared to the number of guests, so you need to avoid busy times for showers.
- The bedding is not very clean; I always feel itchy when sleeping.
- There are a lot of mosquitoes, both in the common areas and in the rooms, which is quite frustrating.
- The chairs in the common areas are very dirty and left marks on my pants.
- There is no elevator, and the women's dorm is on the fourth floor.
- Possibly due to the high number of residents, the facilities seem to be aging quickly.
10/10, will be back!
