The Betsy Hotel, South Beach

+ Right on Ocean Drive, but away from the hustle and bustle. Half a block from the beach.
- We arrived in our room at 10:30 pm and it smelled like mold. I didn't know if the smell would be transient, so we stayed another night in the room. However, the second night, the room continued to smell like mold and the sheets and towels in the room were damp. The next day I called the front desk to see if a dehumidifier could be brought to the room and when we returned from our day, a humidifier was on the desk. I called back down to the front desk to ask for a dehumidifier and was told one would be brought up. However, when we got back from dinner at 10:00, there was not one in the room. Our bedsheets were physically wet that night and I could not sleep at all that night. The next day, I asked to change rooms and was told it was unlikely we would be able to because the hotel was fully booked. Finally at 8:00 pm (our last night there), we were able to change rooms. Slept much better that night as no mold or humidity in the room, although room was not up to $800/night standards.

Great location, great view. Great food and cocktails. Art Deco and Colonial Style in one hotel.
