Essex House was pretty great. The restaurant has some very good drinks, and the concierge can recommend some excellent good options in the neighborhood. Here you are across the street from Central Park South and only a few minutes from Carnegie Hall. The staff are friendly and responsive. Overall, would recommend a stay here.

Not bad, but expected more for the money.
Paid for a junior suite with a 58th Street view, but got a view of an internal wall with air conditioning units. However they did refund 12% when I complained.
The Executive Lounge has a very decent "free" breakfast and evening light meal.
Small things frustate like there being an ice bucket in the room, but no ice machine - You need to call house keeping. No kids ice cream available in the restaurant, they make you go back to your room and call room service.

Greta location near central park. The staff is very professional and organized. I went there attending a work town hall meeting with Executives. I was pleased with breakfast service and the professionalism of the entire staff.

Grand OLD hotel (note the emphasis) that has many charms (including the outstanding Executive Lounge), but is in need of a refresh. IMO the cleanliness issues go beyond housekeeping and represent a need to refurbish carpets and bathrooms throughout the hotel. As far as Marriott's go in the US, this is one of the better properties given location and amenities but it could easily be the best property if it was cleaned up.

Top-flight service, friendly staff. Our room was spacious. The view was meh, but we were just there to sleep and didn't care (or care to pay for a view we didn't value). In-house food service was excellent. Hotel was clean, everything worked, the bed was very comfortable. Nothing more needed.

Love the location (across from Central Park). Rooms with view of CP are great but others are actually quieter. Excellent service all around. Very comfortable beds. Regular rooms are smallish but fine for a couple. Gold/Platinum members enjoy the excellent breakfast options in the concierge room by the elevators. Love staying here when in NYC!

Excellent location, staff, amenities and rooms. The front doormen are All Outstanding and so helpful. A spectacular view of Central Park and a short walk from many Desirable shops and restaurants. A Taxi is Always there to whisk you to/fro. Stay here, at The Essex House. You will be very glad you did.

Recently renovated, very clean and great location near Central park. However, the level of service falls far short of a JW Marriott labeled property. No coffee maker in room, no bottled water in room (even for Gold members)...and front desk employees who grumbled about getting us water. Really sad... You definitely pay for a JW property but do not get that level of service.

Except parking. Can pay about 30-40% less and offer more in tip if parking just a cpl blocks away or using parking apps (some apps will be worse... be cautious). Come to city during "off-times" during day or very early to get best options. Otherwise, been here many times now and the upgrades on light switches are nice along with the general amenities and Southgate bar/restaurant always a plus.
