We stayed in Penelope Palace, Pomorie for a week in mid June. First impressions were very positive. We were met at the taxi by a porter who took our luggage to reception and then to our room. We were pleasantly surprised that the room/apartment was so spacious. It was immaculately clean and tidy, as was the whole hotel. There was complimentary tea/ Coffee. Breakfast in the dining room was excellent. There was a choice of 8 different breakfasts. All served to us by very polite and helpful waiters/ waitresses. Daniel, in particular, went out of his way to make our wedding anniversary dinner special. The bar staff were also very attentive. I must give Teddy a special mention. The hotel itself was situated straight across the road from a beautiful white, sandy beach. Our only slightly negative point was that the hotel is located slightly out of the way, meaning that it was necessary to get a taxi or bus ( not expensive) to go to the town centre. All in all, we had a brilliant holiday.

We truly enjoyed the restaurant. The chef creates an incredibly delicious menu and the service is top notch.

It was a huge disappointment. Overpriced, the quality is not up to par. Parking space has to be paid for separately. Lounge chairs have to be paid for separately. No internet in the room. After asking to turn on the internet, unfortunately nothing changed. The staff is not competent and not friendly. I advise everyone, please do not spoil your vacation, do not choose this hotel ever! We went early June so I had a great time in the pool by myself and loved the easy access to the beach. To get around I recommend using the nearby bus where you can buy tickets to central Pomorie for 1.5 leva and 4 leva to Burgas, purchase tickets on board using cash. Although my list of negatives is longer, the good far outweighs the bad and I would happily stay here again, although probably would not recommend for someone’s first time in Bulgaria.

A lot of the bad reviews I read before this made me worried but I’m glad I stayed here.

Good:
Quiet
Right next to the beach
Pool and spa excellent, spa towel provided
Very clean, daily fresh towels and room mopped on a daily basis to get rid of the sand we tracked in
Excellent staff who were friendly and helpful
Lots of space in the room and plenty of mirrors
Convenient drying rack and space for towels
Small but powerful hairdryer
Tv with channels in multiple languages
Extra pillows and blankets in the cupboard
Excellent restaurant
Nearby shop (which is a tad more expensive than others)

Bad:
Shower water smelled a bit strange
Ran out hot water while showering once
Quite out of the way, you will need to be prepared to get taxis and they are expensive for Bulgaria standards (we got the hotel to book these) or bus
Thin walls - I could hear next door talking until 3am on the first night
Toilet not secured properly to the floor and was rocky
Mattress uncomfortable
Bathroom finish could be redone - a bit of an untidy finish between bath and floor due to age

This hotel claims to be a 4 star hotel but has 2 star amenity, service and value for money.

The staff are unfriendly and unhelpful, and don’t care about the service they give customers.

The breakfast was average at best.
Our room never had Wi-Fi the entire stay, phoning multiple times with not one person coming to test or fix it. We put a “Do not disturb” on our door, but the cleaners came in anyways? And all that was done was a “folding” of the blanket.

They have a spa facility with a jacuzzi and sauna but do not provide towels upon request.

I wish we had known some of these before and avoided staying here.

Do not recommend this hotel.

Budget experience masquerading as a 4 star hotel. The rooms have bare amenities and minimal kitchen utensils. No washing powder is provided for the washing machine. No beach or pool towels. Only one coffee sachet per person per stay (no refill). The breakfast is mediocre at best. Extremely oily and poor selection. The coffee machine does not even grind beans, it dispenses instant coffee. The massages were good, but staff are cold and unfriendly, didn’t make the experience feel pleasant or special. The jacuzzi area is overrun with unattended children who splash around and make noise, nullifying any enjoyment of the spa. Internet does not work in the rooms, at all. Basically you’re back in the 20th century and nobody cares. Parking on the street is a disaster. I would rate it lower but I can’t.

We didn’t stay here, but used the restaurant twice. The food is fantastic and the service is excellent. Was beginning to think all Bulgarians were rude after our experience at Via Pontica Hotel but staff at the restaurant at Penelope Palace have shown me otherwise. Definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in Pomorie.

Room was big clean and spacious with modern amenities. Beds very comfortable. Wi-Fi very good. International TV channels via satellite. Balcony was clean and spacious with views over The Black Sea. Pool was very clean with a lot of sunbeds. Staff from the breakfast and reception very friendly and welcoming. On Saturday evening it was held a party at the hotel and the music could be heard until 1 AM in the night inside the room. In the bathroom we were surprised that warm water was coming from a boiler that could be seen above the bathtub. If you're not very fast with your cleaning in 10 minutes you'll have only cold water. Breakfast was not buffet and you have to choose from the menu a single dish per person. If you want to ask for anything else you must pay for it.

Having never been to Bulgaria, this was bit of a leap of faith! The hotel is not luxurious but it is super clean, friendly, good value for money and in a nice spot by the beach. We stayed in the double/twin room option (ie not an apartment). Although no sea view, it was comfortable, extremely spacious, with a balcony, fridge and kettle (bring your own tea/coffee). The pool is very nice although relatively small and I'm sure it would get busy in high season. It is also unsupervised and the only downside of our stay was that some children were left to their own devices, with little consideration for other guests. We visited at the end of May which is low season, and restaurants and bars around about were mostly closed. I gather things pick up from June. However you can easily travel into old Pomorie , Nessebar or Sunny beach by bus or taxi (check the price before you get in!!) where there is more choice. We mostly ate in the hotel restaurant, which had plenty of choice. Breakfasts were a highlight, being a la carte rather than a buffet, which was a nice change. We appreciated a warm and sunny short break, and would return to explore more of the area. At the time of writing, the going rate for a taxi transfer to and from the airport was 30 Liev.
