Where to stay in Essen

A clean and well maintained property, excellent service and good hosts. The location is sublime, you can walk along the river for a nice hike or take the car and do a citytrip.

Nicely located hotel with individual, spacious rooms, good breakfast buffet and a host who is very kind to extra requests. With pleasure again.

Very original site located within the complex of the old thermal power plant. The hotel is comfortable and cozy, I do believe that it is far from anywhere.

Really nice hotel for a descent price.

Very convenient if attending an expo at the messe, would recommend for this alone. Beds are comfortable and there was a decent amount of pillows. Only dropped on star because the breakfast isn't great. We had it on our first day but it was 12€ each and there was very little choice.

I must say that I thought I was going to a simple 3 star hotel and what a surprise to find a 4 star hotel, modern and with "kitchen" in the room, with induction and dishwasher and in front of the Messe. A very comfortable room with a balcony and a kitchenette, where you can cook yourself a nice meal. The staff were very friendly and gave you advise for every question. It felt like I was at home :)!

Our apartment has a kitchenette with cooking plate, microwave, fridge and also a dishwasher. We prepared our own breakfast in the room. The cutlery was functional with a nice design. In the evening we did cook a healthy meal with a glass of wine. A nice touch is a walk in the botanic garden Gruga Park - 500 meters away. Good service even in challenging times

Front facing room. Tends to be a bit noisy so couldn't open windows. Excellent breakfast menu.

It's clean with great room service and breakfast, but the pillows are not good (suffer to sleep).

It is a very good hotel, well located, efficient with service and very attentive to gests. Clean, comfortable with spacious and well equiped rooms. I loved staying there.

The hotel is near "Old City" of Essen and is very clean. The services are very good and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are big enough, well organised and quiet.

Nice clean rooms, rather spacey, beds tend to slide apart. Very friendly welcome at the reception desk Breakfast was good quality but would expect a wider variety for the price. Parking is rather expensive too. But overall it was a pleasant stay.

The hotel is easy to reach from the station that is close by. The rooms are clean and the bed is comfortable. Parking is free for all guests and you can access the hotel late at night easily. The entry code you get is very helpful and you don't have to carry a key card around with you. Overall a very nice hotel to stay at.

Hotel was easy to find and was cheap. Free car parking was also a bonus: Checking in was easy and the gentleman on reception was cheery and welcoming - explaining about the hotel and the room access via PIN number. Everything in the room was clean and appeared new. The bed was comfy and the shower was hot and of a good pressure. For a one night stop over it was ideal - close to the motorway. ...

What's not to like! Courteous and capable staff. Great breakfast with your choice of eggs to order or making the juice of your choice from the available provided ingredients, loads of tasty fresh fruit. Or even the way that the cleaning lady took special and loving care of placing my 3 kids stuffed animals under their blankets to wait for the kids to return (too cute!). It is my second time to stay this hotel. Nice location, nice people and nice service. But My favourite is to see these creative drawings on eggs every morning when I go for breakfast. The most interesting is every day drawings are different, it looks like eggs know people's feeling on each day. I love it. Thanks to the creator for bringing me the unique experience. So I drove to Germany and stayed in Essen in early August 2023. As an IHG Platinum Member, most of the time I stay in IHG hotels only, but this hotel wasn't exactly what I was expecting. The service from staff is great and the barman and front desk staff were wonderful and very friendly. I had a very nice chat with both chaps and they gave me information of where to visit in Germany. Parking is okay...

Hotel is nice enough with a very spacious room which was clean. Only marking room down because of very dated bathroom which had a broken toilet seat and towels that felt like they had seen better days. Hotels saving grace is the breakfast and it’s staff. The breakfast spread was immense and the kitchen staff going the extra mile to put faces on the boiled eggs.

Staff was courteous and friendly, rooms were clean. Breakfast area clean and food was nice. Location, though... haha. Well, let's just say I woke up quite a few times from the train noises.

Room are decent and people are nice, but €18 for breakfast that have little choice of €7 for a bottle of water is a bit much. Also right now (2024) it’s construction right outside, so if you need want to nap during the afternoon, it’s a bit annoying.

Stayed here for one night for a concert. It was clean, quiet, had good AC and is a short walk to the main Essen train station, so ticked all of the boxes. I have removed one star because we asked the hotel to arrange two taxis for my friend and I who were heading to separate airports. The room is nice and clean, The air conditioning and heating system is excellent, the bed is wide and not high, there is no water kettle for tea, check out of the hotel at 11! Me and my dad just stayed here during the euros. Absolutely amazing hotel. Clean rooms and showering facilities were above and beyond. Reception staff were so helpful always on hand for information and extra towels and pillows etc. The bar tender Antonio was an exceptional worker and should be commended for his work ethics and service. Spent 4 nights here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a clean place to stay. Many would say this hotel is near the station but small sized me with my big luggage on a rainy afternoon still found it quite a struggle to get to! Hotel staff are friendly and welcoming, and made my stay pleasant. Room was clean I constantly needed hot water to drink and the staff helped me to fill my flask up...

We were in it one night with my friend (not a partner) and ordered a room for two, in the picture it looked like two beds connected together, however, we got a room with one bed to 160 cm. Very good hotel, but it’s a pity that the service is so bad

Let me start saying that this is a 4 star superior hotel, which in my opinion is close to a 5 star than a 4. The Atlantic Congress can be reached by metro (Messe Ost / Gruga exit), or about 30 minutes by taxi from the Duesseldorf airport. It is also located in front of the Essen fair (the pavilions can therefore be reached by foot in a few minutes) The structure is beautiful and full of design elements...

Very comfortable rooms at an attractive rate! Its a new business hotel and has everything you need. I truly enjoyed the breakfast, the underground parking and the fitness room. The breakfast is a bit too expensive imho. But since you are right across a big mall (with a supermarket) which is open from 7am to 10pm, it can easily be mitigated. The staff was always helpful and friendly.

Room 401, retro bathroom with strange shower solution. Also non-existing sound proofing, you can hear everything from your neighbors. Pillows are uncomfortable.

We had a couple good nights in the hotel. It has a good location. The hotel is clean and offer coffee and some sweets in the lobby (complimentary). The staff were friendly and helpful. If you don’t ask every day cleaning you can even choose a free soft drink in the bar or extra point on your Accor account that is very green positive.

Very nice hotel, there's a couple of parks a couple of minutes walk away. There are many cafes close by, definitely recommend going there for breakfast!

Atfer a long driving journey from Poland,we checked in just after 22.00, very warm welcoming from the Reception lady, 2 adults 1 child and 1 dog, the room was big and very comfortable, the bed was very comfy, the sofa bed was good for 1 night stay. The staff at this hotel was very friendly, staff speaks fluent English and German and gave us a warm welcome. There's a bar with a terrace where you can order tasty cocktails at a fair price and the bartender was great. The location of the hotel is close to Grugahalle Essen where we went to a concert, and the club in the city centre we visited later. By taxi it only takes you a couple of minutes...

Hotel Lorenz no longer exists in this form. The restaurant is now a L'Osteria.

We stayyed here with my friends. The shower is deadly cold and there is a lot of noice.Service however was great, like the location. This place could be a gem!

The design and furniture of the room (wooden) gives the room a very warm feel. The restaurant is awesome. The neighborhood is quiet and there is a nice park around the corner. Despite the distance to the city center, fairly efficient public transit.

Exceptionally friendly service, cozy atmosphere. Choice of food and very good taste. Dessert is a feast for the eyes. However, smaller desserts should also be offered. We'll be back anyway!

Even if the organizational processes may have to be rehearsed at one point or another, yesterday after a long break from gastronomy we had a special evening at the Gimken restaurant. Thanks to the excellent team and of course to the chef in the background, who during our stay, in addition to his culinary delights, stood out especially for his warmth and therefore did a great job. Beautiful. Very attentive staff, very tasty and original dishes and excellent drinks. And for the first time in nine months, an almost normal restaurant visit.

The stay was very pleasant. I had a great meal at the restaurant. After a good night's sleep, a hearty breakfast awaited me. Completely satisfied, I was able to go home with my dog and hereby give a clear and positive recommendation.

We stayed there for 5 nights. Breakfast is bad, room were comfy but you can feel they had good days long behind them. The personnel was really helpful. Good in the restaurant was not even. Very good service, great breakfast, very clean.

Nice staff, great facilities including the pool, sauna, and gym. Biggest downfall is that the rooms feel a little outdated. But with all the other positives, it's hard not to recommend. There's even a bus stop right outside to connect you to where you need to go. Would come again.

Fine place. Nothing to complain about except I forgot my keys in my room after leaving and weirdly enough the hotel personnel weren't able to find them. Very strange as I told exactly where they were. But probably just a mistake. Good breakfast and especially the coffee.
