Casa Elliot by Bondia Hotel Group

Hotel is nice, well decorated and breakfast was lovely. Great location, close to the metro and loads of bar, restaurants locally.

Only issue was our room was incredibly hot. When we raised this we were informed the air con is completely turned off all of winter (it was 22 degrees outside at the time and 30 degrees in the room). We raised this with front of house who was incredibly rude. She said they would speak to the hotel manager (they didn’t) and get an engineer to come (they didn’t). We had two pretty poor nights sleep. We could have opened the doors to the balcony but it was on a busy main road. We weren’t offered an alternative room or even a fan.

It’s a shame as it’s a decent hotel but turning the air con off completely, is not what a 4 star hotel should be doing, combined with their rude staff, it’s 3 at best.

Seems others had the same issue so isn’t isolated. My advice, spend the same and go to an actual 4 star hotel.

I stayed here for a weekend city break at the end of March. The location was great, close to Universistat Metro station and a short walk from the main shopping district in Eixample. The main issue was with the temperature of the room, as I basically didn’t sleep for the entire trip. We found our room unbearably hot, with the thermostat in the room reading 28C at night. We soon found out that the air conditioning is disabled throughout the hotel during the winter season to save money, which meant the only option was to have the door to the small balcony open all night. We soon realised why they have triple glazed windows (and it’s not for energy efficiency): the road outside is extremely busy, with Lorries, police cars and motorbikes roaring past day and night. The next morning I asked the hotel staff if they could please turn on the air conditioning, having managed about 3 hours sleep. They said they’d send someone to look, but nothing was done. We were accused of turning on the heating, but showed staff that the thermostat was clearly turned ‘OFF.’ Cue another sleepless night which put a massive dampener on our stay.

Listen, I don’t want to say “DO NOT STAY HERE” as I’m sure when the air conditioning is working the rooms are indeed quite comfortable, but… yeah… don’t stay here if it’s warm outside and you’re not in the official ‘summer season.’ Not if you value sleeping, at least.

The breakfast was fantastic, having said all of that, but given my sleepless delirium, who knows? I could barely speak, let alone trust my memory on what the breakfast was like.

To sum it up, it’s a not-cheap hotel in a great location with really decent breakfast (don’t hold me to that), the rooms are clean and modern, but know that you will feel like a rotisserie chicken, slowly cooking away as you try-but fail-to sleep. 3/5, bring some earplugs (or your own air con unit).
