Reviews
Overall the hotel is a decent price, you get what you pay for.
Yes the food can be repetitive and yes sometimes it isn’t very warm, (nothing like cold baked beans to start your day off) I’m not a fussy eater so I will eat things cold and I will try everything, but my partner survived on buttered bread, chips and chicken nuggets haha.
The bar is very well stocked, cocktails also included with all inclusive.
The rooms are cleaned daily and are always cleaned very well, we had our bedding changed 1 time out of the week.
The pool was pretty cold but it’s expected as we went in mid September and gets quite chilly in the evening, the pool area also is very small, there isn’t enough sun beds for everyone, but everyone manages.
It’s in a great location, a 5 minute walk to the centre of Calella and to the beach, a supermarket for all supplies it’s a 1 minute walk away.
Only issue I had which is our fault is I left my partner with my AirPods, she ended up leaving them on the sun bed and forgot about them, they were handed it by a lovely women, but unfortunately another women overheard this and claimed they were her AirPods, unknown to the lady who handed them in. The staff were unable to show me cctv as it was not their responsibility. If I had seen the cctv I could have found out who stole them, but like I said, our fault for leaving them!
They do play music by the pool during the day, but there is no evening entertainment but there is plenty other places nearby to enjoy a night out.
I really hope this review clears things up and please do not be put off by the reviews!
Staff were really lovely, really really helpful and just friendly especially reception!
The rooms were clean and beds were sorted and towels changed every day!
Food- again not 5* luxury and there wasn’t LOADS of choice, but there was always something for everyone, just not as varied as other hotels I’ve stayed at but again, this was a fraction of the price so very much to be expected!
Bar/drinks/snacks fine- no chips but the toasties were decent!
Location- about 15 mins walk from the beach and train station, 1 hour to Barcelona, calella was so much prettier than I’d imagined (our transfer went through loret which was basically Spanish blackpool so we were pretty scared as to what Calella would be like, but very pleasantly surprised)
Overall, for a cheap and cheerful getaway in a decent location with plenty to do if you fancy a day in Barca etc- really would reccomend!
Our stay at Summer Luxury Hotel in Koh Phangan was nothing short of a disaster. I rarely write reviews, but this experience was so dreadful that I feel compelled to share it.
1. **Room Flooding Nightmare**: Our room flooded in the middle of the night, soaking the kid's bed. We called the reception for help, and all they did was throw a few towels on the floor and dismiss us with a "it should be fine" response. We spent the entire night awake dealing with the mess. The next morning, when we complained, their response was dismissive: "we took care of it, what do you want?" and "it's normal." It’s apparently a regular occurrence for them to have rooms flood with rain.
2. **Broken Umbrella Charged**: They provided us with a flimsy umbrella that broke during the rain, and to add insult to injury, we were charged for it. A cheap umbrella that couldn’t withstand a storm should not be our responsibility to pay for.
3. **Bug Infestation**: The bathroom was consistently infested with bugs. We were told, "you can call us every day so we will come to clean it," which is an unacceptable solution. We expected a higher standard of cleanliness. (picture attached, the small back dots are bugs).
4. **Ineffective Air Conditioning**: The air conditioner in our room was abysmally weak. We had to request a fan to make the room somewhat bearable. Meanwhile, our friends’ room had a properly functioning AC. The reception’s excuse was that being on the upper floor meant it was naturally warmer, and they couldn't do anything about it.
5. **Dangerous Access Road**: The road leading to the hotel is in terrible condition, filled with holes and water, and poorly lit. Walking to and from the hotel is not an option; you are forced to use a vehicle, which adds to the inconvenience.
On a positive note, the food at the hotel was genuinely good, and the pool was nice. However, these small positives do little to offset the overall terrible experience we had. I would strongly advise against staying here unless you enjoy being ignored, overcharged, and living with constant discomfort.
All staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel and pool area very clean. We had a tiny balcony but could see other balconies were bigger so if this is important then request and I'm sure if they can they would oblige.
The food was sufficient and we never struggled to find something, the salads were very nice. Location was good 5 to 10 minutes walk to beach and town centre with an abundance of shops and eateries.
All in all we had a lovely time.
Our room (507) was much larger than we expected, however the bathroom had a lingering smell of sewage. The hotel was obviously aware of the smell, as there was an air freshener unit that sprayed a burst every few hours... which made it smelled like men's cologne and sewage. Luckily we didn't spend a lot of time in the room, and the issue was contained to the bathroom.
We paid €5/day for access to an in-room safe. The pool was clean and had plenty of deck chairs. Papa's bar located across the street was great for a few drinks and served food until late.
The hotel is less than 10 min walk to the beach, which was perfect for us, but would be a bit far if we had young kids with us - you have to cross the main road or use the pedestrian tunnel using stairs (not the most pram friendly, but doable).
We were in town for the Ironman, and the hotel is located in the same end of the town as the finish line, which was a happy coincidence for us as supporters , and for the athletes who didn't have too far to go after finishing the race.
The main shopping/nightlife in the town is about a 10 - 15 min walk away, but it didn't feel far. The hotel's location was nice and quiet.
Nothing for children and no activities offered. It was ashamed to reach this disappointment while we were looking forward to enjoy a 4-Star Hotel next to the beach in Spain.
Last note: a smile has never killed anyone. So please to the staff: smile !
