Great location, great breakfast
The hotel is relatively old, but overall it is clean and the guy at the front desk is funny. The elevator is broken and cannot be used, and the spiral staircase is fascinating
Warm, professional staff, very good breakfast buffet, but advertised elevator was out of service.
The hotel has a good cost, service, location, it is clean, a very good breakfast, super friendly staff, the Styles line is already a guarantee for me. The only problem that its excellent location means that you cannot enter a taxi or uber to the downtown area and you will have to walk at least two streets to get a taxi. I wish they had a safe box in the room.I would stay there again.
Well located, well refurbished and still improving. Very good value!
“Choose your room WISELY”
If you're lucky you get a room that's decent. If not you might regret it.
Some rooms are renovated, for example the room I was given in the front of the hotel. This was after I requested to change rooms because the first one I was given was ran down with a bad view of a ran down back alley area.
Getting to your room is a challenge. The hotel setup is like a maze. You get off...

The hotel is truly worthy of its 5* rating. The location can’t be beat —sitting on the edge of the Mediterranean and tucked behind the Main Street it is hidden from view and protected from any traffic. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the staff were terrific. Highly recommend!
It’s a No from us unfortunately, and definitely not for anyone with babies/families. Tried to keep an open mind reading the reviews previously but a few things have definitely disappointed us. The view was great and we had an amazing time exploring the area but we won’t return to this hotel. The price range is definitely 5* but in our opinion the hotel is not. We have booked a specific terraced room...
Great views, very good location, very good restaurant. The hotel needs renovation, hotel staff very poor for five stars. No concierge, no hotel taxi. Very bad value for money, many times higher than the standard of the hotel. I do not recommend the hotel, but I do very recommend the restaurants.
By far one of the very best meals and experiences we ever had. From the moment you enter, you are taken care of by the friendly staff, everything is incredible. The food blew us away, and it’s intelligent interpretation of French Mediterranean cuisine was upstanding. Would strongly recommend and go again.
We had the prix fixe menu on Christmas Day 2021. My advice is to not think of it as dinner. Think of it as an adventure or interactive performance art. That way it won’t be a surprise or disappointment when you discover that most of the food doesn’t taste good.
The food is beautiful and artistic. The chef is clearly more interested in creating artful and sometimes clever food than in making delicious...
We had a great stay at the hotel. The room was big and the balcony very appreciated. The view on the sea is incredible no matter the weather (junior suite). I would have loved more amenities in the room (like a boiler, coffee machine, tea) and a bit more regularity in the services expected from a 5stars hotel (like picking up the luggage upon our arrival for example).

Top hotel, service, location, quality of breakfast, cosmetics, welcome, decor. Everything very good.
Clean hotel, breakfast needs to be improved in terms of quantity and variety.
Small pool.
Very nice hotel well located to enjoy all the activities of the port.
top hotel, structures, cleanliness, location. The only downside of this hotel was the welcome we received from “Samuel”, an obnoxious and contemptuous receptionist who showed condescension.
Having a problem with my pelvis, I needed a room with a shower, which I specified and which was written on my reservation confirmation, this dear gentleman then kindly asked me for €180 to obtain the room initially...
Worth the price, fancy hotel close to city center. Breakfast is awesome
Not far from the port. The hygiene is OK. The food in the hotel is OK.

I go there often and am always just as satisfied!
Renovated room, well-appointed.
Spacious enough for two people.
Friendly welcome. Comfortable bedding.
We had to insist to get bathrobes.
Soft and insufficient pillows.
The next day, our room was cleaned at 4:30 p.m.
We had to wait at reception while it was cleaned.
Water is not available; you have to get it from the fountain.
Paid parking and a very narrow path to access it; a slightly wide vehicle...
Big and clean room.
Excellent cleaning service
This review would’ve probably been five stars if it wasn’t for the heat in the rooms. The temperature was really warm outside yet the hotel said they weren’t going to switch the air-conditioning on until the 1st of May which was not any fun at all. Instead they gave me a fan to put in the room but just blew around the warm air. The hotel is situated about 2 miles out of the centre of Marseille. It...
The hotel is very clean and the location is easy to find. It's a very good stay experience. The attitude of the front desk is very good. Almost every request is met. Hot tea is provided every time you go upstairs. The security is also very good.
Everything went very well 😉
My interactions with the receptionists Sandra, Marwa, and Khedidja were very friendly, courteous, and very professional.
NOT TO FORGET Irina the housekeeper, as well as Anastasia and Luisa the chambermaids, who are extremely professional, kind, and gentle.

I cannot write a review due to the fact I was unable to amend my booking thanks to having booked it through Trip.com
Therefore I am now deleting the app and will choose an alternative pathway in future. This is the second time a booking I've made through Trip.com has failed and I've been left either stranded or out of pocket.
Nice budget hotel with a great location.
Location is excellent, very close to the harbor and cleanness is also good. Very recommended.
Considering this is an ibis Budget hotel, I was pleasantly surprised. Great location in the old port area, heaps of restaurants around, walkable to everything. Very friendly staff on check-in.
Room was compact but clean. It’s no frills so there is no safe, fridge, kettle or wardrobe. Good value for money. Breakfast was an additional €8.90 but worth it.
Very good price and conveniently located in old port area. Simple but sufficient double room. Locker (paid), microwave and coffee machine in the lobby was a plus.
Definitely a basic room but the linens were clean, pillows comfy, water pressure and temperature were good and pump soap was handy by the sink and in the shower so that was all fine. Unfortunately the TV didn't work and the air conditioner wasn't robust enough for such warm weather. Otherwise, the facility seemed safe, the front counter always seemed to be attended, and the location was very close...

Always happy to go back to Mama Marseille. Very warm welcome Cleanliness is spot on, not a finger print in sight in the bedroom. Good sleep in a confortable bed . Excellent breakfast, and on that subject, congratulations to Mama for keeping the high standard of quality and variety of breakfast. It’s impressive. See you soon Patricia
Location is great if you want to experience the “raw” side of Marseille. Very well located around great restaurants , bakeries and public transport. Direct bus to Calanques natura park ( Cassis ) and other places in the city.

It was our first time Marseille and first time Mama Shelter and neither disappointed! The people working at reception are welcoming, the mixologist at the bar makes great cocktails, there are underground parking options, and the rooms are clean. Unlike some other reviewers, I thought the area is great: you have a lot of nice bars in the area, you can have a nice local breakfast at cafe La Muse or enjoy...

Small suite with kitchen, comfortable bed. Clean when arriving but we didn’t get it cleaned the next days. Close to different options of transportation
Overall feeling is pretty good
We arrived very late it was clean and air conditioned
To be honest, we were quite disappointed with how old the room is. The vibe is very dull and even the air-conditioner looks like it was from the 90s. But the good thing is they have their private parking (need to pay another €15 per day) so that we can park our car inside and feel safer. However, I dont think we will be back the next time. The pictures we seen online are totally different lol.
The location is not prime if you are focused on the DuPont/port area. we picked it for having parking garage, balcony, extra room and a small pleasant courtyard. It was a good choice for those reasons. There is a street market 2 blocks away, multiple grocery stores as well are close by.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The pictures show a bit better than actual. I would stay again,...

I stayed here in September 2024. This hotel is extremely convenient to the train station and metro subway - just across the street. Emilie at the desk checked me in and was lovely and very friendly. The room had a nice view of Marseille, the sea, and Basilica. I was given a top floor room by the elevator. The room was clean, furnishings were decent, but I felt like the carpet was due for a change....
Great hotel. We arrived at 3 pm and the front desk manager was very friendly. Recognised my platinum status and offered late check-out which we took. The parking is easy and not too expensive. The room was great and comfortable. The breakfast was surprisingly good 👍. For an inclusive breakfast it was the best in a while. Overall I cannot share any bad experience and will book the HIX in Marseille again
I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Marseille - Saint Charles for a week in August 2012 and had a very pleasant experience. Completely OK, but no more. Noisy AC and quite a bit noise from the street with window closed (maybe to be expected from centre Marseille though). Very simple breakfast. Fine for a single day stay.

Location is superb, directly opposite of the train station. There are rooms facing a courtyard but still at night there is a lot of noise. Staff at reception is super friendly! Breakfast has a wide variety of cereals, bread (with Nutella), eggs, fruits…

The restaurant and bar were close for renovation so we can’t comment about it
Great location right in Vieux Port which is close to all the attractions. About 10 mins walk to Fort St Jean and the Little Petite Train that takes us to Notre Dame de la Garde. Metro station is also 2 mins walk from hotel. It is a little older room but really convenient location.

This is a place located next to the beautiful view port of Marseille. It was a bit disappointing that I was assigned a view of the cathedral wall because I checked in late, but the room itself was clean and suitable for staying alone.
Perfect location, good style and delicious breakfast. Really good for the price.

I enjoyed my stay! The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very nice, it’s quiet and away from the main city center. I loved the courtyard design sitting on the patio in the evening for dinner was very chill and romantic under the the outdoor lights. The pool was refreshing with plenty of loungers around and 2 exercise bikes. The whole vibe of the hotel was very relaxing.

The staff were very friendly, and it was very convenient to be able to park inside the building. The dishes and cooking utensils were well-equipped and convenient to use. However, the room was smaller than expected and there was no table, which was inconvenient, and there were no stores around the building, so it was a little scary to walk around at night.
The hotel room was great
Reasonable price
Very cost-effective
