Reviews
The reservation process was smooth and flexible, and check-in was quick and informative. We especially enjoyed exploring the hotel building itself—with its beautiful paintings, lovely jewelry shop, and live music creating a wonderful atmosphere in the evenings.
The buffet breakfast and dinner were both generous and delicious, and the wellness/spa area was truly fantastic—perfect for a relaxing getaway.
This hotel is an ideal place to unwind, and we will definitely book again. Highly recommended!
Let’s start with the basics:
This hotel is significantly smaller, older, and more worn-out than it looks on the website. The photos are clearly misleading. The hotel is also located quite far away from the city center.
But the real issue is the service — or rather, the complete lack of it.
Despite marketing itself as a luxury five-star hotel, there is no concierge service. No one is ever at the concierge desk, no one knows where they are, how to reach them, or when they’ll be there — if at all. The front desk staff are only trained for check-ins and outs and can’t help with anything else. So if you're planning to explore the city and expect any form of local support, don’t rely on the hotel — you’ll be on your own.
Now to the worst part of our stay: the behavior of one front desk staff member, Peter B., which was rude, aggressive, and flat-out racist. When I approached him for help, he immediately snapped, "What’s the problem?" — no greeting, no professionalism. Just hostility. Later, another staff member left some documents at the front desk for us and even called our room to inform us. When we went to pick them up, the same aggressive staff member refused to give them to us, even though our room number was clearly marked. When we tried to explain, he began saying Hungarian racial slurs at us — loudly, in front of other guests.
When we confronted him and asked what he said, he denied it — then kept saying the same slurs again. Other customers nearby were clearly uncomfortable and shocked. I still can’t believe this happened in what’s supposed to be a luxury hotel.
The unacceptable experience didn’t stop there. Later that day, when we were walking outside near some trees, man warned us about snakes, which we appreciated. But as we walked away, he shouted at our backs:
“Oh, but you guys eat snakes, so I guess it’s OK!”
Everyone in our group heard it. Some passersby did too.
Later back at the hotel, he approached us again and said mockingly:
“Hey, was the snake delicious?”
This was not one offhand comment. This was repeated, targeted racial harassment — unprovoked, unwarranted, and deeply disturbing.
To hotel management: How is this behavior tolerated? How is this person still employed? Do you understand the damage this causes — to your guests, your reputation, and your credibility as a five-star property?
To future guests: Especially if you are a person of color or from an international background — think twice before staying here. If this is how they treat their guests, the “luxury” label means nothing.
This was a humiliating, upsetting experience that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Do better.
A special thank you goes to the entire hotel staff – everyone was friendly, attentive, and professional. Whether at the reception, restaurant, wellness area, or housekeeping, we were always met with a smile and a willingness to help. Their warm and welcoming attitude created a pleasant atmosphere throughout our stay.
Overall, Lotus Therme offers a high standard of service, comfort, and perfect relaxation. We will gladly return in the future.
The best part of the hotel in my opinion is the spa facilities and the amazing view
The jacuzzi is good with strong pressure and the thermal pools are good
Lack of drinking points and cold water in the lobby and lack of clocks on the walls in the lobby areas and while waiting for the massage
The view of the hotel is amazing and pastoral
Rooms with a view towards the pool suffer from noise from the music from the pool, which ruins the peace of the vacation
Excellent food, very varied and delicious dinner dishes
An absolutely perfect location, just a 5-minute walk from the famous Hévíz Lake, along a beautiful navigation canal where you can rent a boat and sail almost all the way to Lake Balaton.
Everything you need is available in the area, including the option to rent bicycles and enjoy the landscape straight from the saddle.
Hotel and Facilities
The hotel has been around for a few seasons, and it shows; however, the management is making continuous efforts to improve and modernize the facilities, especially in the spa and wellness areas.
Breakfast and dinner deserve a chapter of their own, meeting even the highest standards. The variety and richness of choices are endless, and the quality of food and beverages is exceptional. There is an abundance of everything, and the selection of flavors is truly unique.
Parking in a secure, well-monitored lot outside the premises, including the option to charge electric cars, is now a standard feature. What exceeds the standard is the very friendly and helpful staff at the entrance gate.
The hotel itself is situated in a park, where even a simple stroll after a romantic dinner takes on a whole new dimension.
Every evening—yes, every single evening—there is live music of a very high standard.
The rooms are clean, fully air-conditioned, equipped to 21st-century standards, and extremely comfortable.
Room service is very professional and ready to assist at any time.
The front desk and spa reception are staffed by amazing personnel—nothing is a problem; anything and everything can be arranged. The friendly ladies and gentlemen at these desks elevate the entire stay to an exceptionally high level.
The specialized staff in each department work in perfect harmony with the hotel’s mission. We never had to wait even a minute. Always punctual, always precise, always perfect.
We had a package of 10 treatments, and in one word: amazing! Absolutely perfect!
The pools are accessible from 7 AM, and there’s nothing like swimming in a warm outdoor pool in freezing temperatures before breakfast—if you haven’t tried it, you wouldn’t believe it!
Staff
If this hotel has a hidden treasure, it’s the people who work here. All of them.
Attentive but not intrusive. Helpful but not overbearing. Always smiling, always ready to assist with anything, anytime.
And I mean everyone: from the front desk staff, restaurant personnel, chefs, and housekeeping to the massage therapists.
We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation, and above all, we’ll cherish the absolutely sensational memory of Hungarian warmth and friendliness.
Thank you!
The spa area is great. It was late September but we had the fortune of getting some sunshine so we enjoyed some time in the outside pool area. The water of the outdoor pool is warm all year round, and it's connected to the inside pool so you can basically swim outside even when it's cold outside. There are pools of different temperatures inside, and being a thermal spa there is a slight sulphur smell inside. But that just adds to the charm.
The food is amazing. The breakfast and dinner are both so full of different choices it's hard to choose from. But it's all so delicious. One morning we had breakfast delivered in our room and it was excellent as well.
Me and my husband are both dedicated gym goers and the gym in Lotus Therme is adequate for a weekend stay.
The service at the reception and in the restaurant is top notch. It's actually really rare to have such a good service in Hungary.
The only thing we weren't satisfied with was the room and the massage we had. The rooms are dated and the bathrooms are really inconvenient and just overall badly designed. Also we needed air-conditioning for the night but also that didn't work so we had to sleep with the door open, which was fine I guess since there was no outside noise.
The massage was a joke. We had booked a couple's massage and were really looking forward to it. Both of the massage therapists were very awkward, the other one was sneezing all the time, and the massage itself, well it was more oil rubbing on a body than a real massage. It did nothing for us. It's probably better to get a Thai massage in town (where there are plenty to choose from) for half of the price.
But despite these setbacks we really enjoyed our stay at the hotel, and will most likely be back again.
It was a really comfortable stay. Everything is very logistically and comfortably located and situated. The room and all spaces in the hotel very clean and constantly taken care of and attended to. Delicious, very fresh and variable food and buffet, the chefs really know what they do and cook just in front of you. From people on any kind of a diet to any tastes one can find everything. The pools are maybe not so large but nicely located. The sauna and steam baths are spacious and clean. Spa offers a lot of treatments and personnel are attentive and professional. Very nice live dancing music in the evenings, the bar has a large number of cocktails and bartenders are quick and professional. The bed was super comfy, and the air conditioner was easy manageable. Cute little balcony. A beautiful park around the hotel to walk. Possibility for horse riding very close.
