Savhotel Aemilia Bologna in Bologna

I was not lucky with this one. It’s not really terrible but not worth the money you pay for. The worst ist the smashing doors of the neighbour rooms which make comfortable sleep impossible. Also it’s quite outdated. Sorry this ist not what I expected for the price of 140e a night.

Bologna isn’t known to have a ton of quality hotels, so from this perspective Aemilia is correct. However, I found the photos online to be extremely misleading. The common areas within the hotel were old, carpet/elevators were dirty. The room itself was always left very clean but the minimal renovations that had been done were superficial. I’m not sure how this hotel is #1 on TripAdvisor for Bologna.

The hotel is located in a residential area with easy access to the city center on foot, but if you are a woman traveling solo please do not go back alone at night - I was followed back to the hotel from the city center and luckily stumbled upon another couple heading back to the hotel on foot who ensured I returned safely. The area around San Vitale at night is unsafe.

Some strong points of the hotel: the staff. They were always kind and willing to help. It’s a pity that the staff don’t match the standing of what is supposed to be a 4* hotel. Whoever owns this structure should renovate it properly to ensure that the property matches the standing of their excellent staff.

Not 4 stars and not worth the price!
We have stayed at the Aemilia mainly for it's location close to the center and the parking lot. The hotel and neighbour buildings look like banlieue's in bad parts of Paris (but it wasn't unsafe). The room we had for 359€ was newly renovated and nice, however the rest of the infrastructure like the bar and gym look like the 90's in Eastern Europe. We didn't feel well outside the room and the WiFi isn't usable for business. The connection dropped every 2-5 minutes, no way you could do a video-call, or even properly work

I'm not sure how this hotel has good reviews bc it sucks. To start the staff isn't friendly and are extremely rude.
You have to pay for water.
They have 2 things that are gluten free and make no accommodations nor do they care.
The sheets and bedding are so stretched it's itchy.
The showers don't have hot water.
They lock you into your reservation so you can't cancel after checking in knowing that the property is awful.
Huge waste of money and regret staying here.
