We got all the perks a loyal member of ALL could get and even more. Pasquale was so welcoming and did everything he could to make our stay the best possible.
Wish I had stayed more than one night.
Room was spacious and quiet. A view of the internal garden was amazing.
The only thing that could go better is parking. It's handled through a third party and even though it's on the same building, the service is not on par to a Mercure. Accor should take and handle the parking service themselves.
They’ve recently renovated the foyer and the hallways, but the bedrooms are still stuck with their 90s decor and have old furniture. The walls are thin, so you can hear the room next door (I was in room 421 and could hear the couple next door speaking so clearly, this made is difficult to sleep). Additionally, the rooms are not exactly clean, with black fungus growing in the shower and products from previous guests left behind.
The beds are quite hard, but not the worst. Don’t expect water, or replacements for tea or coffee. Simply put, this SHOULD NOT BE LISTED AS A FOUR STAR HOTEL and more along the line of a three star.
It’s not worth the charge of €100 per night.
What made the experience even worse was an incident on 5 December. I had two rooms (416 and 418) and needed help drying the bathroom floor in room 416. The staff member who appeared to be the duty manager or supervisor simply threw a shower towel on the floor and told me that was the solution. Using a shower towel as a floor mat is absolutely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about the hotel’s hygiene standards.
Combined with the lack of upkeep and the poor condition of the facilities, this ended up being my worst experience ever with the Mercure / Accor Group. I expected much better.
Get there and the room is like a sauna. Turn the AC on and go for a walk. Get back a few hours later and it's still the same. I assume the AC isn't working so I head down to the lobby to see if it can be fixed. The assistant then informs me that they turn the AC off from Oct to Mar. They refuse to turn it back on. Their solution is to move us to another room, that has no AC, or sleep with the balcony door open. I end up having to do the latter.
There's a courtyard below our balcony and we had people laughing and yelling until 11.00pm. There's also a dog barking somewhere nearby. This is surprising considering I was on the sixth floor. The street sweeper arrives at 3.08am. it's not quiet! The door open is also a great way to hear every ambulance siren, car horn and motorcycle in the neighbourhood. It gets better though. It's not just the noise that stops you sleeping. You also have to open the curtains to let air in through the door. So as well as constant noise you also get your room lit up from the courtyard lights. Nothing like loud noise and lights combined to help you have a restful sleep.
Here's a tip for you Mercure. Don't go advertising an air conditioned room that isn't air-conditioned for half the year. That's putting profits ahead of your guests. You folks have really let your standards slip with this hotel.
Service: Staff is attentive and willing to help. Our check-in was amazingly fast. The bar is always staffed and in addition to drinks, also offer small snacks.
Location: A bit of walking to the city center, but you pass a lot of nice views and stops along the way. Near the train station which is convenient, however at night like in most cities you get an odd crowd on the sidewalks but it was nice that hotel has security during those hours.
We had a newly renovated room with a balcony to the yard. It might be noisy if having a room out towards the road as it's a very busy road, and people like to use their horns.
It was a big bathroom, big bed, big TV and a big room overall that we appreciated after staying in some smaller rooms so far on our trip.
We also had breakfast which had a good selection, and in the room we had free mini bar that was restocked everyday.
Why I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I do hate when hotels lock their TVs down so you can't use your own device with the HDMI port. I can't see why this would be necessary to do.
