Hmlet Cantonment

We won’t stay there anymore! There is no service at all, no one pick up the phone call from the reception desk! The location is also really not good, far away from nearby MRT Tanjong Pagar, it has to walk at least 15 mins to there, you can imagine the sweating under scary sunlight! And the room is superb small even for medium room, there is better choice to stay nearby Amara, Carlton city or M hotel at the same budget of Hmlet’s large room! I am regret to choose here over the other options in the same area!

Nobody in the lobby when i arrived, waited 15 minutes, the rooms are in another building, windows are not soundproof nor anything in the hotel, there's no telephone in the room, sink is leaking, walls are cracked, and finally there's bugs.

Also, when i wanted to extend the stay the asked for almost double the rate.

But i think it's as good as it gets in this country.

Gross and disgusting. First day checkin and hair all over the floor, the pillows reeked with odor and the fridge is old and smelly. This is not a 4-star hotel, more like a 2 stars. The staff are great, very nice and friendly people. The house keeping is extremely poor.

Good for the price. Great location (probably the only good point). However, not the cleanest! The rooms get cleaned only twice a week. We requested for our rooms to be cleaned and were happy to pay extra but the request was denied because there were no cleaners for that wing that day. The bed was super hard! Could do with better lighting near the lift area! The walls are stained and dirty at many places! Although the general furnishings are in good taste, the property really really needs to be maintained!

My companion and I recently stayed here for 7 nights and I must say for a 4 Star Hotel which the Hmlet Cantonment claims to be via Google it’s pretty much a joke for 4 star hotel standards. The pictures on their website make the hotel look brand new - but be aware. From our experience we can say, it’s run down, lacks cleanliness, the rooms smell weird, house keeping is not very thorough (they come twice a week, not a problem if you plan to stay a short while) and the management/ reception is not very honest in communicating things.

Areal:

Apparently this hotel is Singapore Clean certified, from our perspective this quality mark is definitely not met (gym, rooms and hallways). To our surprise the „pool“ was not a pool (don’t let yourself be fooled by the pictures on their website - it’s tiny and a matter of perspective) but rather a small 15m2 dip in, and the „gym“ is also dirty and does not have any gym features one would expect - it’s rather a yoga studio. The communal kitchen and co-living spirited lobby is nice but feels like a hostel. The set up of the entire space could’ve been planned way differently, it feels cramped and unwelcoming.

Rooms and Service:

Small Room (and upgrade to a Medium Room)
We’ve opted for a Small Room (later we upgraded to a Medium Room). The small room is pretty small for two people. You can barely pack out your luggage - the two given drawers and rack with 5 hangers is not enough for two people on a 7 night stay. The luggage we had could also not be stored in the room, so the room felt even more cramped. My companion and I asked the reception for an upgrade to a medium room to solve the space issue. We asked the reception whether we could have a look at a medium room so that we could get an idea what would expect us. We were shown a room which looked very nice with bright windows to the front and one of the staff told us that we can move in this room the following night. To our surprise we were moved to a different medium room (not the one which was shown to us). The room was facing the back of the areal, with no real windows and smelled of smoke and other unpleasant smells. The spacing issue was solved but the room was not smelling good and lacked cleanliness. We’ve had rashes and asked the reception to change the bedsheets, to do something against the smell and maybe consider moving us to another room. The end result was that a radiator was placed in the room which was supposed to clean the air but the smells were persistent. I certainly must say that the staff wasn’t working customer centric with no real will to solve this issue - very frustrating for paying guests. Looking back the 30 SGP extra charge per night was really worth it considering the extra space we’ve had in the end, but we had the same amount of clothing storage space (2 drawers and a rack with 5 hangers). So we lived from out of our suitcases.

I would not recommend this „Hotel“ for future travelers.

It’s a serviced hotel apartment. Not sure why ratings are so great, but I expected a little more. You can tell the rooms are quite used, walls have stains, some of the towels had stains as well. I booked the medium room, which is enough for 1-2 people max. The metro is 10 min walking distance, bus is 5 min walking, coffee shops are in 7-10min distance. Unfortunately the property has rats, so it took me some time at times to get into the lift because they were running around. Someone actually had to help me chase them away. They actually only clean twice per week, which I was not informed about. It’s an old building basically renewed, but the windows are thin so you can hear noise from the rain/thunder. The walls aren’t really sound proof, so I could sometimes hear noice. I wouldn’t stay there again, mainly because of the cleaning service and rats.

Great location that I cant deny! Amazing restaurants and bars 5mins away and the metro station is just around the corner!

Okay so let's go ahead and do this, 4 star hotel? Nope wont even give it 2.

1-rooms are smaller than they appear online so its a bit misleading!
2-toilet not as you'd expect things starting to fall apart.
3-important: no room service or fresh towels no toilet paper etc expect on Tuesday and Friday (block A) And in a country where you should shower 2-3 times a day that's an issue!
4-staff are no where to be found! Not helpful at all and by their attitude it looks like we are invading their space! Seriously I've never seen such people!!
5-communal kitchen, great idea until u realize its a tiny space and it stinky and full of strange oder!
6- no fridge in the room no facilities no nothing how can this be a 4star hotel? I have no Idea
7-for the price I'd go anywhere else but here :)
8-it rained yesterday and the whole place started leaking, looked like the sinking scene from titanic
