Baron Hotel & Spa

Poor cusromer service skills, they don't know how to greet guests or deal with queries. They didnt even say thank you when I handed in my card at check-out. The only time I observed customer care is in the breakfast room when a member of staff (possibly owner) went around checking everything was okay but even then he only approached white european guests. The hotel does not provide complimentary water in the room, something even basic hotels provide, if you request it you have to pay for it. I was told I could not use the pools without additional charge, which didn't make sense as all the Hotel and Spas I have stayed in allow use of pools inclusive of room booking and additonal Spa treatments are chargeable. I have been to Istanbul many times and stayed in a range of hotels but will not return to this hotel. If basic customer skills are lacking and they are not welcoming then even if it is a five star hotel I would not return. Even on this trip I had stayed the first night at a different hotel which was welcoming from the moment I stepped in and ensured they greeted guests with a smile and in a professional manner, complete contrast to The Baron. Other feedback- the location is good in proximity to the grand bazaar and tram line. The room I stayed in was satisfactory although the AC didnt always work and you can hear all the noise from the street. Only one universal soap dispenser in the shower- which I didnt use. No handwash next to the sink. No towel rail, no toilet roll holder.
